Inspired by Renato and Moderator Fokker... here it is: PREFACE Macross 7 was a radical departure from previous Macross installments, but its' radicalism was literal, in so far as the latin root of the word radical is...well...'root.' And Macross 7 looked to the essential root of Macross; namely the power of song as a means of changing the hearts of other beings and opening them to love - and took this concept and made it the basis for everything in the series - for better or worse. Now, Macross isn't just about music. Of equal importance are panties and lingerie in general. Macross Frontier took a bold step in the direction of giving more screen time to panties with episode 8. Now...here's something that hasn't been done, and that certainly should be done: A Macross OVA focused on PANTIES. Imagine if episode 8 lasted two hours and was a mystery/detective story - just WHERE are Sheryl's panties? WHO took them? First - we'd need a protagonist. It would be a young girl who dreams of becoming a super star idol singer - at this point, she can't sing very well and has no prospects, but she does have great taste in panties, and lots of boys in her high school lust after her panties. One day, while showering after gym class, the girl reaches for her panties - and they are gone! She and her two friends try to seek out what happened to the panties. It'll be a mystery full of twists and turns as first they suspect the boys from school and follow one home even. At home, the boy turns out to have a father who pilots a Destroid. And as the Destroid pulls in to park, the girls see that there are some panties that look the same as the missing panties in the Destroid cockpit. The detective-high schoolers set up a surveillance of the dad, only to discover that the panties belong to the dad's girlfriend, who visits him with lunch and kisses in his Destroid while he's patroling the colony. They are NOT the missing panties. This is just one example of how the plot will generally go. We can discover the colony ship and all of its' unique quirks as the high schoolers seek out the missing panties, exploring more and more arcane leads. In the end, it turns out that and alien being took the panties and is intent on destroying them. But, the high school girl puts all her heart into a love song that convinces the alien to give back the panties and live in peace with the universe. The end. Win OVA! As for Meltan panties - I'm not really into those because, seen from a human perspective, they look like a large bedsheet. This ship and crew could have it's own adventure without actually finding them. A story such as this could easily easily build into the overall mythos of the Protoculture and whatnot. Since it's en vogue to do prequels nowadays...how about a Macross series covering the height of the Protoculture and the Schism War between the Supervision Army and the Zentraedi/Meltrandi? I'd love to see an "origins" story like that. It'd cover a lot of as-of-yet untouched Macross history (or prehistory, as the case may be). Exedol specifically remarks on how their culture had been reawakened after 500,000 years...so a prequel covering the events of how their culture was robbed from them that long ago would be an interesting story to tell... And of course it'd have to include the origins of "Ai Oboete Imasu Ka" and the first person who sang it to tie everything together, or it just wouldn't be a Macross series. Minmay sang it in DYRL, Ranka in Macross F...so there HAD to be an original Protoculture singer/performer who made it so culturally significant to the Zentraedi. I'd love to know about her... I second this! It would be my favorite. Maybe as a small triology of 24 episodes. The first eight episodes are about the rise of the Protoculture, episodes 9 to 16 would show us the "birth" of the Protodeviln and everything else which is important for Macross like the Supervision Army and afore mentioned "Ai Oboete Imasu Ka", and the last episodes tell us how everything comes to an end: the dying Protoculture, the imprisonment of the Protodeviln and the ongoing Zentradi hunt for Supervision Army units with the last scenes taking place in 1999 when the ASS-1 crashes on South-Ataria Island. That already exists. It's called Macross Frontier. It's about a Zentran shipping magnate who has a secret desire to find Lyn Minmei and therefore is bent on developing an advanced fold system that will allow for the integration of the entire universe and, ultimately - finding the SDF-1 and Minmei. Sadly, things go completely not according to this scenario, and the story is side tracked and builds into an overall mythos of the Protoculture. Macross Zero, asides from the eyecandy was just plain bad and Frontier was even worse in terms of writing, story, direction, etc. I know this opinion is probably an unpopular one here. I wouldn't mind seeing VF-X2 animated perhaps or something from in-between the main stories. i personally liked both zero and frontier. they both have their merits and flaws but are overall are fun and interesting. i disagree about the trend of badmouthing Kawamori, i believe he has kept the macross franchise generally good and not too far out there unlike say Hideo Kojima or Hideaki Anno have done with their most famous franchises. In the end i believe that Kawamori has kept Macross true to what the franchise is about. and P.S to everyone in gerenal: don't complain about fanservice in Macross Frontier. A small planet, bleak, barren, and covered with ice, which exists on the periphery of human settlement. There is only one small base here, more of a waypost than anything else. About once every few years, an emigration ship will stop nearby and deliver some supplies before moving on into the unknown. This is their home: the 297th Attack Team: Shotaro, Dietrich, Larry, Hong, Bjorn, Phuoc, and Paco. Seven men in their late 40s/early 50s. Dietrich, Hong, Bjorn, Phuoc, Paco drive destroids (Two Cheyenne IIIs, a Tomahawk Mk.XXI, a Phalanx Mk.XXXVII, and a Fürstin Monster). Shotaro and Larry each fly VF-33s. They're also "The Troopers": an Iron Maiden cover band. Since there are no women, and all the men are straight, there's no fanservice-y type stuff (although an ongoing gag involves the others constantly discovering Bjorn masturbating in his quarters). The initial character drama revolves around Phuoc: he is a free-thinking dreamer who wants to include Bruce Dickenson's solo recordings in their repetoire, but the others are not interested. Suddenly, they are surprise-attacked without warning by a mysterious enemy. Dietrich is killed in the first attack, but it's kind of okay, because everyone agreed that having TWO keyboardists was a little much. So they gird their loins to prepare for battle. The enemy lands somewhere in the frozen waste, and their high-level of ECM jamming makes it impossible for the 297th to find them. Unbeknownst to them, the enemy starts setting up an elaborate base, while launching probing attacks against the 297th. The attacks are pretty weak, though, and the 297th doesn't worry too much. But one day, during a Troopers rehearsal, soon after Phuoc has achieved triumph by finally convincing the band to at least attempt to play "Tatooed Millionaire," they are surprise attacked without warning again. by what looks like a gigantic battle fortress. They think it's an SDF-1 replica at first, but then realize to their horror that it's actually a Supervision Army ship. The long-lost foes of the Zentradi have returned to known space, and plan on conquest. In the ensuing attack, their base is destoryed and Hong is mortally wounded. With his dying breath, he murmurs his last wish: that the Troopers concentrate only on Maiden's most successful 1981-'86 material, and definitely play nothing that they recorded after 1988's Seventh Son of a Seventh Son. Bjorn angrily retorts that he loves playing "Not Afraid to Shoot Strangers," but Shotaro and Larry quiet him down, and vow to Hong that they will accede to his wishes. Hong dies with a smile on his face, but Phuoc is crushed. Now on the run from the steadily mounting Supervision Army threat, the 297th have to keep moving, and finding food and places to rehearse becomes more and more difficult. Tensions mount. One morning, after a long argument about the chord changes in "22 Acacia Avenue," Paco and his Tomahawk are missing. The 297th are getting desperate, and decide to break into the Supervision Army base and steal an escape craft so that they can warn humanity on the looming threat. The break-in is accomplished during a breathtaking concert sequence, where the Troopers reenact a note-for-note performance of Live After Death as a distraction. They steal a small ship, and escorted by Shotaro and Larry, they leave the planet. Larry, however, gets shot down during the escape. They get to space, but soon run out of fuel. Shotaro loses two guitar strings as well, and the aliens are closing in... When suddenly, they detect a defold nearby. The call for help, and amazingly, the Megaroad-01 arrives! A "Reverse Fold Fault" they encountered meant that while only fifty years passed by in the outside universe, 300 years passed on board the ship, which is now commanded by Captain Pei Hsuan Ichijo-Lynn. The Megaroad-01 unleashes it's squadrons of VF-4 Lightnings, and undergoes a transformation. They rescue the 297th, who join the battle against two Supervision Army gunships. Each of the members of the Troopers has a splendid, heroic death. Phuoc goes out singing "Shoot all the Clowns." But still, the Megaroad is outmatched, until, suddenly, Paco arrives with reinforcment: Macross Frontier. The husband/wife duo of Alto and Sheryl Saotome (Ranka had died from eating an expired carrot a few years before), come in, with Luca behind them. Luca gets killed instantly. Paco dies soon after. Finally, the Megaroad-01 crashes into the small planet itself, destroying it and the Supervision Army. The galaxy is safe once again.
