Minmay looks great in her Flashback costume and I'm interested in seeing how the comedy plays out in Secret Visions.

80 pages of Macross the First is nice, but 76 pages of Macross F information?? Looks like they're really scraping to fill up the magazine.

I wouldn't be too worried...the first couple of issues of Gundam Ace had a lot of filler, too ("Just in case you didn't know, here's a two-page outline of all the Gundam series...and here's another two-page outline showing how they're connected...and here's yet another two-page outline showing the order they happen in!"). It wasn't until it went bimonthly in issue 5 that it really started getting good (IMHO, of course).

I have an uncomfortable feeling that "Secret Visions" may be what Macross F would've been like in every episode had been like episode 8...but I hope I'm wrong.

I also hope a Plus-related comic is in the works.

Thanks, kresphy! Oh yes, I forgot it was out tomorrow!

Looking at that contents page... I dunno. Apart from "Mac The First" ( o/` Oh the shark bite... With his teeth, dear... o/` ), there's not much as exciting as I had hoped... So much Frontier junk, and that Seventh Bridge thing. Anyway, I will prepare myself for disappointment so I can be impressed when I get it. You gotta have a strategy, see.

I haven't seen Frontier yet so I guess all the Macross Frontier content will be a good introduction for me.

I don't think it will. Judging from the the contents page, I think the primary MacF comic (i.e. the adaptation of the series) is moving over from Shonen Ace ( that's what it LOOKS like, at least  ), but it's already almost halfway through the series. It's also, IMHO, not very good. The other MacF comics look to be gag manga.

So more than likely I should be totally lost on the Macross F adaption since it's starting in the middle. Maybe they will re adapt it again at a later date, but I doubt it for some reason. I am going to try and have a positive feeling that Macross the Fist will be good.

Oh, I'm sure it will be. Just as Gundam the Origin is the best thing in Gundam Ace.

If you really want to get up to speed on Macross Frontier, you can buy the DVDs, buy the two volumes of the comic that are out, or download the episodes.

If you want to get up to speed before Macross Ace comes out tomorrow, I'd suggest starting your downloads now... :p

(And personally, I really wish they would re-adapt Macross F...I really don't like the artist doing it now.)

I remember how much the DYRL Perfect Edition cost a few years ago but it was well worth it to me (even if i don't understand Japanese) it was cool seeing it in widescreen to. I Know i would probably want Macross F on blu-ray but i am afraid to see how much that would cost, but maybe someday I will go for it or maybe the movie.

From what you've said about Macross F comic I am willing to just be lost on that one.

It's been so long since I've seen the first issues of Gundam Ace, I can't remember the contents. True that Gundam The Origin took up most of the volume (since we were able to get the first volume from just the first two issues).

Sadly, Macross Ace doesn't look to be quarterly anymore, since that photo of the Table of Contents page puts the release currently at the end of June. Could always change, depending on sales, but scary to think that the next "Macross the First" chapter will have Minmay meeting Hikaru... I wonder if that means we're on Episode 2 in the next volume??

TWO ISSUES A YEAR? Man, that sucks. Let's hope it's just for the first couple of issues, to give Mikimoto enough breathing room to finish Ecole du Ciel.

And the first issue of Gundam Ace, IIRC, had two "Sections" of Gundam the Origin, C.D.A., Gundam-san, a one-shot comic about Zeon teeny-boppers (who turned out to the the nine Rick Dom pilots that Amuro killed in a matter of minutes), a short story about a Ball pilot, interviews with various people, an article about how the Gundam novels differed from the series, DVD and toy news, and lots and lots of "Introduction to Gundam"-type stuff. It was also only about 200 pages or so...a far cry from the Manhattan phone book it is today.

So in theory one chapter could equal one Episode then that could mean 27 chapters or 36 depending which ending is used.

It never, ever turns out to be that simple. :p

I'm finding the Macross The First story to be an interesting mix of both SDFM and DYRL designs. (For example, Breetai and Exedor are definitely DYRL, but the ARMD are SDFM!)

The SDF-1 is of "a" DYRL styling. I say that, as it's based on the W.H.A.M. model, and not the actual lineart!

Aside from that, the biggest change (aside from having Minmei in a Chinese dress during the opening airshow), is Misa having taken the role of announcing the Angel Birds flight demonstration team! It's definitely given her character a stronger personality in this adaptation.

Oh... and the magazine contains both chapters 1 and 2 of Macross the First. So that's about 2 chapters per episode, right?

Exedore suddenly has some kind of lens growing on his forehead now. Huh. Aesthetically, I have nothing against the mix-match designs and redesigns, but in terms of continuity, the Zents are talking about the Supervision Army again, whereas the movie Macross design is meant to be based on a Meltrandi ship, right? That's somewhat jarring.

One thing I liked is the flashback to the propellar plane stunt days of Hikaru and Roy, when Hikaru is being shot down... there is a nice touch added in that scene that was not in the TV show, but I won't ruin it.

Overall, I like it, but... despite the cosmetic changes, it is just the exact same thing. Often it is nothing but a shot-by-shot recreation of the show. I hope Mikimoto has some surprising new twists in store, because changing Misa for Focker as the announcer is just too little, too lame.

I dunno, I may be being overly harsh.

As much as I enjoyed the manga, it's not enough. If only it was a weekly, or even a monthly..... I just don't get how this is going to turn out. I mean, the equivalent of one TV episode every 6 months? So it's gonna be 18 years before they wrap up the show??

All the other manga in the magazine are pretty awful, but the colour pages with the information are nice. I especally like the Tenjin page. Awesome.

I don't give a crapshoot if the publisher published 'em twice a year ... just seeing the 'updated' Minmay & Misa by Mikimoto bring tears to my eyes!

Hot dang Kawamori, after the manga runs its course, with the cash cow that is Mac F been rolling now & the expected Mac F movie, PLEASEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE return back to SDF: Macross - DYRL style! It could be rebooted series, or OVA for that matter, the new generation of fans are waiting the magic that only MACROSS the First could bring!

Minmay, minmay, minmay, minmay! Haruhiko 'Hal' Mikimoto IS BACHHHHH!

Has anyone found an affordable online vendor for Macross Ace?

No local book stores carry it, and Amazon.jp asks 3800yen shipping for a 500 yen manga...I don't mind paying for shipping but a 800% fee is a bit much.

Well, I could see Basara looking like that after 12 years. With Ozma such a big FB fan, I could also see him emulating his idol's hairstyle.

On another note: Err, what's up with Sheryl, Ranka & Nanase? Those panels looked more doujinshi than official manga to me.
