In related news, has anyone actually been reading the Astray manga? I have to say it is surprisingly good so far. Good characters, tight relation to Seed while maintaining it's own plot, and the Astray's are sweet.

I didn't get a chance to read the first two fully yet but I skimmed through a little.

A huge of time was spent in Vol. 2 at orb helping the orb scientist girl (I continue to forget the woman's name) and her crew work on the M1 Astrays. Lowe and the Red Frame even sparred with the M1's a little. The 3 Astray Girls get a LOT

of face time here. Kind of explains their not getting much screen time in Seed tv, they got quite a bit in the manga. Makes you care a little more when they get rubbed out at the end.

A nice addition was the Red Frame was present when Kira and Athrun had their big fight on the island. Lowe was watching from a distance and used the Gerbera to brace himself when the Aegis exploded. It was then Lowe that pulled Kira out and brought him to Markio's house. Good tie-in there.

Very recommended so far.

The Astray manga is suppose to fill in the gaps not covered in the series in addition to being a side story.

BLOODY OKAWARA!!! IT'S NOT 1990!!!

At least believe it's 1991 when you had cool designs in Silhouette Formula '91 ;)

Actually, I take that back, I don't think Okawara design SF91.

Who designed the Hardygun?

http://www.gundamuniverse.it/modellismo/im...un_1-100_02.jpg

And Vigna Zirah?

http://www.gundamuniverse.it/modellismo/im...ah_1-100_02.jpg

These are my two favorite Gundam designs of all time.

Back on topic, Seed Destiny's designs look to be the worst combination of Gundam F-90/F-91 and Victory possible. Hopefully, the animators will improve upon his original designs as usual.

Yeah I'm still on the fence about SEED, but I loved the first Astray volume and speaking of, 2 volumes are out already??? Stupid Lake Charles stores...we never get anything on time, I've even had to special order every Nauiscaa book past Vol 1 :(

Is it just me or does it look like, ALL of the Gundams here except Impulse have the ability to transform to an option mode?

Of the initial main 5, yes, the other 4 all transform in some way. Two flight, 1 ground-type, and 1 amphibious. The Impulse gets the Sillouette packs for it's specialized equipment, it gets option modes in a different vein like the Strike. (Insert Impulse is to Strike what Mk. II is to RX-78 comparison). I fully expect at least one more pack to show up outside of the 3 regular packs.

Also saw in the trailer the Impulse has the Armor-Schneiders as well.

Theres a site that has a 15 second commercial spot which featured a tad bit of TM Revolutions Opening theme, and you see a small picture of Impulse with the schnieders.

I also noticed something from a site, its pictures of Athrun, Cagalli, Kira and Lacus in wedding outfits? what......the.....hell....?

Before everything else, I would like to say, these new Mecha designs SUCKS, none of them are unique, they are just a quick slap together with spare parts.

I will not be getting any of these.

The title "Destiny"..for some reason this sounds like a new secret weapon, that will kill or unite the 2 race.

And Kira,, I'm sure he will make a appearence later near the end, but he might be "MIA" in the first couple of eps by death, seemly like he got kill by someone. Then the whole chain reaction can start with Athrun thinking someone killed Kira, and when he try investigate,, some adtemped assianation of Cagalli takes place, the story then goes deeper and deeper. Someone looiking like Kira shows up, Lacus dancing, more Mecha battles, Blue cosmos, New types, some more battles and story telling,, new mecha appears, is it Kira?, but why didn't he speak with Arthrun?

Ok enough wish full thinking. it's probably going to start off with new secret gundams build by Zaft, then it get stolen, the Kira look-a-like trys to stop them.. etc, etc.. : (

Destiny is the name of the second-half main Gundam, as confirmed by Okawara in an interview.

Oh, and for those who are pondering the transformations--nearly every Gundam will transform.

Zaku loving!

Zaku Warrior

Time to rain on everybodies parade...again! :p

Just when I though Okawara had scrapped the bottom of the recycling barrel, he proves that there are new depths of unoriginality to which he can sink. I mean Zakus in SEED........sheesh!!!!!!!! <_< Okawara have you no shame man?

Actually, it's all probably just a marketing ploy to sell more models and toys. I can just picture the meeting of Bandai's Gunpla marketing executives: -

Exec A: We sold a whole sh*t load of SEED Gundam kits, but the bad guy mecha, the Ginns and Mobile BBQs (or whatever they're called) didn't sell too well. What can we do to increase sales figures for the bad guy mecha in Destiny?

Exec B: Well, the Zaku from the original Gundam is probably the best selling enemy mecha in the history of Gundam, so why don't we ask Okawara-san to slightly redesign it for Destiny. I mean most of Okawara-san mecha are recycled designs anyway, so one more isn't going to matter.

Exec A: Brilliant idea. Heck, we can even still call it a Zaku for instant name brand recognition. We're gonna sell millions to the fans, as they'll buy anything with the name Zaku or Gundam on it.

I just feel that for the past decade the Gundam franchise has been sinking lower and lower. I long for the days of 0080, CCA, 0083 & 08MST. Please Sunrise redeem yourself with a good UC OVA soon.

If nobody else is bothered by the crass commercialism and striking unoriginality of putting Zakus in SEED Destiny, then I'll shut up  I dunno, it just irks the heck out of me. Does Sunrise & Bandai really have such a lack of confidence in designing a good looking bad guy mecha that they feel they have to plagarise designs from other series? Here's betting we see Doms in the second half of Destiny <_<

give the guy a little credit. Okiwara's not doing all the design work, everything has his name on it because bandai always has him do the little tweaks that make a design animate easier and look a touch more familiar. yes he does a few of the designs, but all the suck is not his. curse bandai if you need to curse at somebody, well over half the designs for SEED aren't originally Okiwara's, and they still suck, the same is going to be the case for this show, bandai has a direction and a specific look in mind for the show, and the designers are just giving them what they want, not us. don't forget, bandai hates you.

and as much as everybody loves katoki they likely won't be tapping him for a show anytime in the near future either. bandai keeps him busy with model and toy designs.

Graham

I don't know that I'd say Gundam has been sinking for the past decade. I think it'd be more accurate to say that it's always been hit or miss. Gundam ZZ was the first big miss, and it's almost twenty years old now. Turn A Gundam was one of the franchise's finest entries, and it's only five years old. And in between, there were plenty of good shows (0080, Victory, G) and plenty of not so good (0083, 08th MS, Wing). SEED was another miss and SEED Destiny, based on the material that's been released so far, doesn't look like it's going to be any better than its predecessor. But with the right creative staff, a good Gundam show is still possible regardless of Bandai's commercialism. Gundam has *always* been around to sell models (except maybe TAG), and the only reason it seems any worse with SEED is that Fukuda has been Bandai's willing lap dog (making Dearka change sides to improve the sales of Buster models, for example), but I think it's slightly pessimistic to conclude that the entire franchise is sinking. If Sunrise preserves the SEED staff for future shows after Destiny, then the franchise really will be headed downhill, but there's no reason SEED doesn't just have to be another bump in the road. Even if Bandai continues to pump out sequels to it, the SEED universe itself has some potential, so a competent staff might be able to pull a good series out of it.

They suck because Okawara touched them.

Case in point, the Astray Gundam. The original is gorgeous, and the cleaned up version, the so-called M1 mass production Astrays, SUCK.

Bandai and Fukuda maybe tyoing Okawara's hands, but damn it, there are more than one way to let mechs have big backpacks.

Sorry, but SEED is an Okawara franchise through and through. There are two lone exceptions: Strike Gundam and the Blue Frame and Red Frame Astrays (and I'm not referring to the various add-on packs for the Astrays, nor the Blue Frame Second and Red Frame Second.) Strike Gundam and Astray were designed by Junichi Akutsu. Astray was left alone according to Akutsu's art, but Strike Gundam was "cleaned up" by Okawara. Everything else in SEED is a 100% pure Okawara design, and everything we've seen of SEED Destiny is a pure Okawara design as well.

Keep in mind that just because Fujioka and Ishigaki are on board for SEED Destiny doesn't mean they'll design anything significant. In Fujioka's case, this is his first time working on an animated Gundam series, and so he's the junior of the project. Expect him to design things like MS carriers, or to create a couple of "monster of the week" MS that pass through the Okawara filter, ala Strike Gundam. In Ishigaki's case, Bandai always makes him design the capital ships, and they usually keep him away from the mecha. After Gundam X, they refuse to give him top billing for anything.

Seems like the UC/Seed discussions are beginning to take a turn towards the Macross/Macross 7 discussions. <_<

I for one am looking forward to Seed Destiny, and still find it too early to declare it crap since all we have is slivers in info so far.

I enjoyed Seed a great deal, as well as 0083 and 8th MS team (for the guy who said those sucked). Many found G godawful, while others just took it for what it was and enjoyed the ride (I found the show pretty enjoyable after the Guyana highlands). UC was the shiznit, but it's over now, and this is the new branch we've got, like it or not. They said before Seed came out they didn't want to have to force new fans to have to watch 20 years of UC Gundam shows to see what's going on, and thus get more new viewers hooked. Seed was intended to be the branch off point from the beginning, so expect more to come after this.

After the past 4 independant series before Seed (and I find Turn A's designs outright fugly, but that's my opinion, just as others are entitled to have their opinion regarding that show or any other). Haven't heard anyone complaion about actually using the real Zaku in Turn A. The new "Zaku's" in Seed D look pretty good IMO.

As for "this guys designs suck" some Seed Mecha are hit or miss yeah (all depends on personal opinion), but it's also the plot and characters I'm looking for, especially chracters, and I thought Seed kicked Wing's butt in every category, mecha included.

As for the Kira/Fllay/Lacus/Athrun/Cagalli wedding outfits pic: From the looks of it there are some pretty good artbooks out there, people have been using for wallpapers images. There have been lots of wallpapers ciurculating around using really nice pics.

Well, it's like Graham said about Macross 7 when people said it wasn't a very popular show, a not so popular show can't produce 49 episodes, a crap load of sound tracks, a 4 episode OVA series, 2 specials, and 1 movie if it weren't popular.

Seed has produced 50 episodes, 2 TV specials 1 OVA, 2 side stories OVA's, 2 manga series, over half a dozen soundtracks, a long line of model and plastic figure toys, and a tv sequal airing less than 60 days from now.....you can't call something like that a "Hit or miss".

Friend of mine was showing me a picture, and it was a semi truck with the trailer being something TV screen like I think, and it had Gundam SEED advertised on it......now that's cool.
