Stands comparable to yetistands

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, new to this expensive hobby of Macross toy collecting and recently acquired two DX VF-25 renewals. Ive been looking for proper stands that can give me dynamic flight display ability. Research lead me to yetistands which are perfect! But from what I’ve seen and read, the site is down with no plans of it being back up. My question is, are there other stands out there that are comparable to yetistands? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Welcome to MacrossWorld. Especially this section of the forum where you'll run through a mixed bag of emotions trying to decide what to get and trying to get it.  :p

Did you PM ChaoticYeti to see what he has available? Might wanna PM him since that's his site.

Yeah, I think @ChaoticYeti is still offering stands but I think I read something about a supply issue that would make sense. As for comparable stands, there are none. Yeti stands and by far the best out there.

Yeah supply issues with everything going on, definitely makes sense. And from what I gathered, I agree 100% on it being the best. I went as far as to see if there were any second hand yetistands for sale on eBay lol no luck obviously

FlightPose stands are the closest you'll get to Yetistands. The advantages FlightPose has over Yetistands are that they're stupidly easy to setup and can be used with practically any plane or ship, even a dinner plate, since they don't require toy-specific adapters. Speaking of adapters, most of Yeti's adapters are opaque plastic, which look pretty unsightly, at least to me.

The disadvantages are that FlightPose stands can't achieve the extreme poses that you can do with Yetistands and battroid poses are nearly impossible since FlightPose is designed for planes and ships. There's also inconsistent reports of the stand's rubber tips melting the paint on some toys. Anecdotally, I've never had that happen to any of mine, but it may be due to specific combinations of paints/plastic used and/or room temperature.

If you mix and match rod lengths, you can also use the Flightpose stands for Gerwalk and battroid mode poses:

I will concede that the newer bases aren’t as solid and heavy as the older ones.  And I’m not sure if they ever resolved the issue with the new clear tips.

But they ain’t a shabby alternative.

Thanks I’ll look into these.  I think they’ll do for now until Yeti is up and going again. I’m mostly going to display my current toys and future ones in flight mode. I’m also into Gundam model kits so those satisfy my mecha needs lol I love Macross for the jet designs mostly. And yeah I agree with the Yeti adapters being a little unsightly, but the flight angles and possibilities more than make up for up imo

Ok these look pretty good. I’m sold now. These will definitely get the job done!

I stand corrected, you've got a great battroid pose going on there! Even with mixed rods, I was only able to do basic battroid poses, and even then it took an ungodly amount of time.

imo, yeti stand has no equal out there. It just goes to show w hat happens when someone who knows what he needs and knows how to design it work on it with passion.

Flightpose stand is a good alternative but be careful. There was a quality issue with the rubber tip on the first few batches of it that causes it to eat at the paint/tampo or cause plastic blemishes. I believe this is already fixed but better test it first if you are not buying new stocks. (I traded one with fellow collector before before knowing this, turns out, the reason I got a good deal back then was that those are old stocks)

If you are using Yamato / Arcadia VF, then the recent arcadia stand is also a good alternative. It has a good base so you can easily pose the arm without fear of the base tipping up.

I appreciate the heads up. I’ll definitely keep an eye on them. I ordered two and they should be here by the weekend

Yup. When I was moving couple month ago, I noticed the flightpost tips "melted" off some of the paint on my Isamu yf-29. On the metal part that connects the cockpit to the lower body. But all the plastic parts that connect with the tips are ok (it's on the stand for at least 2 years).

I use Flightpose for paintless figures or on unpainted parts of contact. If I need to connect at a painted point, I put some tape over the tips to protect the paint. Overall, I find Flightpose to be a pita because of this and they aren’t always easy to balance your figure in a stable way. I have one Flightpose that I bought before I realized the extra investment in Yetistands was well worth it And one that came with a Calibre Wings model and it can barely hold that without being on the verge of falling at all times. I’ll never buy another Flightpose but they can serve their purpose.

I had my VF-19Advance on a Flight Pose stand in battroid for a long time and it was very stable. It really only needed two of the arms, but I kept the third for a little extra support. I never had any issues with paint rub, but I mostly think I've had it contacting on unpainted metal or plastic? I mostly use the FP stands with the VF-19Adv, an RVF-171 (which has just the most unsightly display adapters), and then randomly with a few others. I definitely had later model FP stands, as well, so it may be an issue that was sorted earlier.

Just figured I'd throw in my experience with the brand. I prefer YetiStands, and look forward to when he can reopen his store, but the FP stands are decent backups.

Hopefully he will be back. COVID has thrown a lot of wrenches in gears. Conduction business this year for me has been 10x harder. Everything is pulling teeth and herding cats. The stands are his side gig. I imagine he put it on hold to deal with more important matters.

Is there a general consensus on which is the best flight/display stand available now?

I wanted to get Yeti and Flightpose but those are not available.

I heard mixed things for the Tamashii Stage Act 5 but I'm not sure if it will be good for Macross figures.

Depends on what figures you're going to use the stands for. For the Hi-Metal R Valkyries, the Tamashii Stage Act 5 is good enough. If you can get the Stage Act Trident, You can mount atleast 3 VF-1's.

For 1/60 or 1/48 scaled Valkyries, here are some alternatives:

Based on Arcadia's VF-1 clear stand: https://www.aliexpress.com/i/32976160670.html

From an old thread, I've found members who used these:

Bandai's Action Base (Which I'm not 100% sure if it's going to hold that long since the prongs are plastic and thin for 1/48 and 1/60 and it might break before you finished shouting "KAKIZAKI".)

However, @EXO used to have those adapters that can be used on Yamato's adapters for these Bandai Action Stands over Shapeways but I can't seem to find the link anymore.

I'm looking for a display stand that can support the heavier stuff. My logic is if I get that and then it can be used for both Macross figures and my 3rd party Transformers.

Hi,

I order 2 of those yesterday  ( https://www.calibrewings.com/router-style-display-stand-version-2-0 ).

I hope to use it with some 1/60 Yamato or DX Chogokin valkyries.

I can debrief you when I receive them.

those look promising.  let us know when you get them, especially the tips on the legs.  they look similar to the flight pose stands which had issues with the rubber they used and how they would potentially take off paint.

I’ve got tons of them in varying heights too. Beyond just toy collections, I also have comic books and cds in the thousands. I would by spools of blank cds to make my own mixes and backup cds I bought. Also DVDs to make movies.

lol. I just donated a whole bunch of them out early this year.. . .,.  but since you are just using it for a base it can be anything.. just drill a hole in it.

I did it will some cup coaster before and even drill a hole in my old harddrive when I was messing around.    But if you have some extra acrylic lying around it would be best.

The tri-pod I used before were from Daiso.. .. its about $1.50 each and each of the leg is retraceable so if you mount it upside down it will be like a flight pose stand that have extendable legs

Back then I only used on my Yamato’s at the time and did not notice the rubber tip effecting anything.   But Yamato doesn’t have much paint and tampos so I would not know how it will effect the Bandai stuff.    Since the Bandai stuff comes with their own stands I just used that.

I got a Swiss Army knife because of MacGyver.  🙂 .  Have duct tapes at home for whenever I might need it . and have tons of paper clips from staples from price fillers . .
