Did some of this today, as well..Some cutting and tamiya epoxy fill on minor air bubbles and voids..

These lovely Engine details are all buggered up with resin balls!

Those are missles you’re also looking at..

Much better..

More dry fitting..

And problems.. the back piece, which holds the engine nozzles is a bit oversized . Once nice, tight joints between the lateral thrusters and the main fuselage are now huge gaps, I don’t want to deal with filling..

Though there’s not a lot of tolerance,  I’ll trim the edges of the back plate and lose some details. But I doubt it’s going to be noticeable with all the nozzles installed and the lateral engines attached tightly.

..And the details are lovely!

Speed brakes on the underside fit so perfectly snug, they hold themselves open. Though it looks cool , I think they should be turned with the circles facing in. The underside sensor pod is a softer resin and, seemingly rougher around the edges than everything else..

Trimmed the back piece..glued vertical stabilizers on and some more test fitting..the side thrusters fit much better now..

Again, the speed brakes(one test fitted proper side out) will need a little sanding but this one fits perfect  out of the baggie.

Great project, I never realized just how nice this kit is.  Your pictures really show the amazing detail.  To think that I missed out buying one not too long ago from a MW member that offered it directly to me.  Regrets, but I won't make the same mistake again.  :bigshok:

Been a month. Starting to have more time.

Filling and sanding the joint at the vertical stabilizer..116C01C0-221E-4BEF-A5F4-C388CE383EC5.thumb.jpeg.6b804d74642f7f3a4f4228f64ba2d63f.jpeg

Ever so slight gap remaining between the fuselage and side thrusters..

looking better and better!

Thanks amigo!

Everything looks like it’s lined up ok. 017F270C-7622-4E7C-83F5-EFFAA2C9D217.thumb.jpeg.21c891a89be3badde4f9cef6b24d58e4.jpeg

I’ve Sanded various areas with magnification but I’m still having a hard time finding the inconsistencies I know are there..5550B3E6-BBF9-47C5-9F48-EF59E3458573.thumb.jpeg.f6f2ccccaf82a4f26e326134174697a2.jpeg

So it’s time to primer.. paint reveals all..

And everything pops out..now I can see what’s going on! So I start to obsess over the vertical stabilizers..lol !  I don’t like the transition from fuselage to stabilizers..front and back..

So I work it. And rather than the line art accurate straight lines, I swoop the back end a bit and slightly extend the front end. It looks better to me..

more to come..

Thanks nightmare.

I’ve been working on the tiny bits..some cleaning, sanding and filling and shaping. The landing gear is made of softer resin, like the underside sensor pod. And the quality isn’t so nice as the main bits. There’s prominent air bubbles and the wheels look a little miscast, giving them a wobbly look. So I smother them in putty..4E1A0228-6CAE-468C-934E-3007A007ECC9.thumb.jpeg.995365b4032c994c447474d6ee371b8c.jpeg

Also recutting some panel lines here and there. It’s slow going and tedious ..

Certainly this is a great kit especially because include the options of the air breaks and the stop hook

Is yours a re-cast?  That looks like bare plastic, but it's a completely different color from Bolt's...

That's a good question...i bought this particular one off a fellow MW'er...

I would scour the internet for it. Kits like these do pop up every so often.. you just have to be at the right place at the right time..

I'll be posting pics of my further progress soon..

Here's where this is at. Still needs lots of touch up and details. As mentioned in my other thread, no power since last Saturday (still!) has totally screwed up my chances of finishing this by the deadline. I will finish it as my life goes back to normal .

( whenever that is..)

Ok, sooo.. here is the latest progress on this project..bean very focused on the Armored VF, but that's nearly complete and I'm putting time in over here..

The main upper intake still has the masking tape inside, got to finish the "red eye" and surrounding port..

The side thrusters need panel lining , over all needs another light round with the white, some dry brushing , detailing and weathering , a clear coat, bit more panel lining , another clear coat and decals. Oh ya, landing gear, air brake, side panel missile launchers attached, etc., Lol..

See you next Deculture :hi:

Thanks amigo:) ya , using a clear eye with an led would be the best. The rear thrusters on the main fuselage are glued to a detailed piece that would cover a battery  compartment and allow to drill straight through to the eye. But I wasn't feeling nearly ambitious enough to bore that space out enough to hold a 9v and drill through. Figuring out how to make the rear thruster plate attachable and detachable would be the easy part,  but still take some doing..

No need for a big old 9v. A 3v button cell would light an led for days.

I see you used Tamiya epoxy to fill gaps. How well does it bond to resin? And does it sand well?

Good point about the battery size, this isn't a lightsaber build, lol:lol:.

This particular tamiya putty sands completely smooth and is easy to work with. It seems to bond fine to everything, no flaking or separating. Though I haven't tried that many different materials or resins. It does begin to set a little quickly once it's exposed to air, so there's no dallying around or icing the cake with this stuff. Which I'm pretty accustomed to at this point. So I'm pretty happy with the product.

Thought I'd update some progress. She's heavily weathered. Will wash it down a bit more (some lines need to be thinner too) before clear coat and decals. In the process of painting landing gear and hatches and rear thrusters too..7C81A4A3-4773-4818-A26E-A12B0B6EEDA7.thumb.jpeg.722945867f1735097e1af4a5e35b1537.jpeg81129B1B-FB56-4A62-A9B4-642E5D0DF3D5.thumb.jpeg.43ff61329937cd65145e99d560295a4a.jpeg93F131BC-630D-45A8-9CD3-13CD1101FAF9.thumb.jpeg.359dc1d8ff9c4643fd989df0505f631d.jpegF7219EB8-D214-43D7-9D6A-DEB756260170.thumb.jpeg.ddab193ef46db12454c6dc8709c52fe3.jpeg

And there's always more details to add..
