Meh.  I'll wait for cable.  In fact, I'll wait for Toho's response...

I finally got around to watching Shin Gojira just a few minutes ago; and all I can say is:

"Godzilla is God!"   :p

Yeah he was really scary in that one. And the end scene was just creepy

Not a fan of this condescending language in the trailer:

-Mankind is the cause of this "mass extinction"

-"We" are an "infection"

-The Titans are the planet's "original" and "rightful" rulers.

I'm not sure if people even recognize the linguistic programming at work here. Not only will I not be seeing this in theatres, I'll actively be seeking-out the bootleg.

More to the point, I like the job they've done remixing the traditional kaiju voice effects. They did a slam-bam good job in Zilla 1, and so far it seems like they've done the same in Zilla 2.

I need to hear Ghidorah more clearly, but agreed on G2014, I think they nailed the look and the roar. The Godzilla roar is iconic, you've gotta get that right, and I feel they really did well with this new design.

Rewatching the trailer, unless that's Mothra in her flying form bursting out of the ground, we see some insect like legs revealing themselves. Is there a chance some smaller, low level Kaiju make a brief appearance? Like Kumonga, the giant spider?

Yeah, the language is designed to make you feel like a schmuck if you're a human.   It's like the character in question is a crazed environmentalist who would prefer to slag half the human population to "heal the planet."  I think the right word is fanatic, one of those enlightened folks who think it's their place to tell others what's best for them.  The funny thing is that this language is contrasted directly with Serizawa's comments about being Godzilla's pets.  I saw it as another one of Hollywood's "messages," to be simply ignored by the guys who came up with it, because they are too busy snorting cocaine and objectifying women while in their private jets flying to Tahiti.   :bad:

Anyway, enough of the psycho babble... let them fight.  :clapping:

...What?

It's almost as if all of those statements are from one person in the movie who not only isn't portrayed very positively in the trailer, but might just not be the most rational of people in general.

Are you really going to take it THAT personally that you're going to start suggesting there's some terrible agenda at play in this movie? That it's trying to program us to want to unleash giant kaiju to destroy ourselves? Really? Not that kaiju movies, especially Godzilla ones, have ever been allegory (thinly veiled or otherwise) for environmental issues or anything. No, that's just crazy talk.

There is a message there I dont doubt it. Look at the MooseKnuckle website and teaming up with PornHub. But In a sense are we not an infection? Look at the misery we cause each other how the elite try to censor. But as far as monster movies go. Its a rockem sockem MMA match between two massive monsters. The rest is just noise. And that is what all of us want to see.

This is too much common sense, it's easier to bitch and whine about perceived slights against, humanity I guess? As you said, Godzilla has always been about allegory and human mumbo jumbo about us being the disease, this is absolutely nothing new. I'm saddened but not surprised, like Lex Luthor said, " Some people can read War and Peace and come away thinking it's a simple adventure story. Others can read the ingredients on a chewing gum wrapper and unlock the secrets of the universe". People will come up with reasons to be offended by, and make it seem they are being attack, in any backwards ass way possible.

Oh well, I was going to see this multiple times in theaters anyway, now I'll be seeing it at least 2 or 3 more times, I'll also be buying multiple copies of the 4K Bluray as soon as it is available to try to offset that kind of idiotic, BS behavior.

People see what they want to see..even (or especially) when it’s negative.

Loved Godzilla growing up in the 70’s. Watched every new movie. The Anime rocks , I really like where they went with it.

The newer movies went from ok to awesome. Very  excited to see this on the big screen!

Actually, it would be interesting if they do a bit of a cliffhanger... may be have the real King win at the end of this movie.  Then, Godzilla goes into training mode a la Balboa in the next movie with King Kong.  Then come back in a fourth movie and have a rematch with the King.  I know that won't happen, but I hope they don't kill of the King like what they did to the MUTOs in the first movie.

Also curious to see what they'll do with Mothra and Rodan.  The latter never got that much exposure after the first movie, always a sideshow.  The former had its own movies, but is still just second fiddle to Godzilla and even the King.

Personally I can't wait to see what their take is on the twin fairies that as we all know are integral to the Mothra mythos. Even the animated movie put a spin on them.

Mothra was always the most out there of the bunch, with the idea of the fairies dancing and chanting Mothra.  Most of the other monsters were easy to understand, either big animals, evil space cyborgs or some other such thing.  I wonder if they'll take to the guardian of the earth routine with Mothra, that's how a lot of this was done in Japan.

And I still contend that "Mothra 2: The Undersea Battle" ripped off Macross 7.

Mothra 2's Dagahra is like a copy+paste of 7's Grabil and it takes place above the sunken ruins of an ancient civilization which created the Dagahra as a weapon.

Love me some Mosura, but gotta give credit where it's due.  "Seven did it first" as some podcasters often say.

Here are my Predictions who the other two are

Mr Grab Legs: Kumonga or Megagurius

Monster Mountain: Anguirus or Gabera

Your Theories?

I don't know. I considered that for a second, but then looked at Mothra's legs while she was flying and now think it's possible that she was almost taking a dirt nap, but decides she has to come back and save the Big G.

It’s Mothra.  Look at the toy images in the sh figuarts thread.

Or I’ll justpost it here.

I'm still not fully convinced it's Mothra, pausing the shot, the legs coming out of the ground seem to have far more spines on them, Mothra's legs are quite smooth and streamlined. I think we may see a few quick cameo appearances at either the beginning or the end of the movie mentioning other "titans" that exist, and they will probably be more C list monsters then anyone with real notoriety, monsters that are easier to get the license for. My money is still on Kumonga, the spider. Then again, there is also Kamacuras, which is a massive praying mantis.

Damn that fig is gonna set me back a few bucks.  I hadn't seen these posted before.  Need to check the shfiguarts thread.   Wonder what the scale is and how much King Ghidora will go for.

The scale will follow all the other MonsterArts figures, the whole MonsterArts line is in scale with itself, if that makes sense. All these new King of the Monsters MonsterArts figures will be pretty damn big, everything in this movie is bigger then 90% of the previous Toho releases from Showa, Heisei, etc. Godzilla from Shin and the Netflix series are MASSIVE compared to most other figures in the line, which is in scale, those versions of Godzilla are huge. I'm sure this new Ghidorah will be the biggest MonsterArt figure yet, the shot in the newest trailer shows him really sizing up Godzilla, and it doesn't look too good for Godzilla.

wow, that looks weird, this doesn't quite look like the traditional Mothra.  At least not the fuzzy version that we're used to, but may be they are just going for a new look.  The old version had big blue eyes, and tiny little legs.  This thing has legs that are way out of proportion, and eyes ain't blue.  May be its a re-imagining.

oh, hey, I just realized, they threw Zhang Ziyi in this movie too, quite a long way from CTHD and RH II.  Of course, we have to get someone from China in there to draw in the Chinese crowd.  Otherwise, Legendary wouldn't be doing its job.  But she is nowhere near as popular as Fan Bing Bing these days.

They want Mothra to be able to actually physically fight.  So giving her larger legs makes her more effective from a blow-by-blow perspective.  Her old design didn't lend itself to taking an active physical role in the other movies.  Plus, she looked damn goofy.

I don't know, I remember larvae Mothra having a decent range weapon with her silk, entangling both the King and Godzilla in various movies.  Sticky but effective.  Imagine being squirted with all that white stuff, and you didn't know what it was, wouldn't you be the least bit perturbed.  8P

And if I recall, in the 2000s, Mothra had the ability to project some kind of energy beam from her antenna.   Mothra is more a distance kind of monster, all the physical stuff,  so dull... so dull.   Mothra is much more refined than that. :nea:
