Bandai DX Chogokin 1/48 VF-1

This was crazy. I went to bed just minutes before it went up on Amazon JP. Still kicking myself about that. I was able to secure an order at HLJ, but I am worried I may get the dreaded "Server Error" email and the order canceled. I was hoping to get an order in with Amazon just to be sure.

I ended up empty handed and am seriously reconsidering doing this any more.

I think I would prefer to go to the dentist and get my teeth drilled on before I ever do this again.

I hate to say it, but I think the prices on these are too LOW.  If they were closer to $250-300 to start, scalpers would be a lot less likely to buy up stock.  $300 seems to be the cutoff point on premium valkyries for most collectors.

Or Bandai could just make an amount proportional to the demand, while maintaining a reasonable msrp.

If you want to go pay $300, nin nin has you covered.

LOL, this reminds me of the $799 USD VF-31A with free shipping on ebay a year or so before!

i was happy to sit this one out.  I don't need to rebuild vermillion squadron at 1/48th scale even though i freely admit yamarcadia 2.0 has been bested by a good margin.  space, budget, and my own mental sanity ruled the day last night for me haha.  sad to hear it was another tough one for the MWers who tried.

the hik 1J was a must though and i'm glad someone on here helped me out in getting one.  a roy fokker 1S (of course) will be a must when it comes out so I can only hope bandai will be smarter at this by then.  part of me thinks bandai loves these scalpers though.  *sigh*  i REALLY hope super parts (for TV style) and  super/strike parts (for dyrl style) will not be an issue.  It seems the missile set wasn't hard to get so hopefully those packs won't be either.  i don't **need** a gbp-1S in 1/48 but i'd be happy if they made up and definitely would get it.

I hope Roy Focker will be a web exclusive. If it’s this mad with Max, I can’t imagine how it would be if Roy is a normal release.

My hope is that Bandai will up the production number for the Roy 1S, since they KNOW demand will be the strongest for this one amongst all other variants.  Kinda like how they decided to reissue Roy's VF-25S.  But yeah, going forward all POs for DX VF-1's will be extremely difficult.

This is eerily similar to what happened to the concert/event ticket market about 10-15 years ago, when all those sales moved online.  Botters ruined that market too, and it turns out a lot of the venues and promoters were in on the take.

I'd like to assume Bandai just doesn't care that much about Macross and doesn't really care to resolve the issue.  I really hope they aren't actively profiting off of the botters/scalpers.

Given the chance to preorder Focker at 18K and end empty handed because of scalpers and not enough stock, would make me extremely mad.

Got lucky with Hikaru's 1J but not with Max ride. Already decided I won't build Vermillion squad at this scale. Bummer.

Well there is a possibility that the price will come down some from resellers in the coming weeks. Like an IPO, its hyped before, speculators invest on day 1, the stock drops dramatically in the coming days when real demand is not there and the volume is released back into the public with a race to dump. Maybe...

Anyone here know how to write a competing Bot for the next pre-order madness?  MW's can unite and pool resources to help the fam?  If I can score an extra at some point, I'd be glad to help anyone here.  Paying it forward and supporting the (proto)culture here is what makes this community cool.

That was 3rd party. Do you know when amazon sellers put theirs up? I went to bed sad at 2am lolz.

@Valkyrie23 first posted the non-3P Amazon Japan link here at 05:35.  When I checked at around 05:41, it was still available, but was gone the next minute.  So I think the PO lasted for about 6 to 7 minutes on amazon JP, which is a miracle considering how the other vendors sold out in less than a minute.  The bots must have been caught off guard because there were many other amazon scalpers who put up their links there long before Amazon Japan GK went live.

Missed it by 30 minutes. Did they sell out within minutes?

Yes and after Amazon Japan GK sold out, there was a third party vendor that put his up for 19,440 yen and with an initial shipping charge (overseas allowed) of about 7000 yen, then reduced it to 950 yen.  I don't know if anyone had put an order in through him but that would have been a killer of a deal!

What are the chances in the next few days to weeks that there will be stock on these Japanese sites due to whatever reasons? Is it worth having all the pages up and F5ing it to death just in case? That is what I usually do for US preorders and sites as BBTS, TD, etc.

I would say keep watching the sites for more stock.  This happened with the DX VF-1J and the 31E (I think, not 100% sure).  Others would probably chime in with their success stories, but I have seen amazon.jp and HLJ do this on a couple of the previous POs, so keep checking, and good luck!!

This is a big part of the problem.  When Amazon swoops in, they buy up all the stock from Bandai, which means less stock for the other, smaller players and this happens to everything that Amazon agrees to carry.  With their buying power, HLJ and Amiami can't compete.  If Walmart got into this as well, all the small vendors would be screwed.
