I was wondering if anyone has brought this kit and what did you think of it? Not Macross I know but it is designed by Shouji Kawamori so I'm thinking it kind of is Macross as it shares the same creator.

I have this very kit in my backlog somewhere. I obviously can't speak too much about it, but when I looked at the sprues, I was sufficiently impressed with the molding and parts separation and the like. Typical good Hasegawa quality, and the design itself is really nice as well, with a unique stacked twin-engine design. The top-down silhouette is especially appealing, almost like a more elegant Su-47. There's a "standard" release with JSDF markings and a "Kei Nagase" version with orange trim, as well, the latter of which I hope to get my hands on for not insane prices someday. (I was something like two days late of nabbing the last ones off HLJ.)

You can build the engine nozzles in regular or STOVL configurations, the wing tips are movable, and it comes with a nice complement of underwing weapons and a clear display stand (a real plus compared to other Hasegawa kits). The decals are really nice, as usual.

Now I kinda like a Gamlin VF-22 to copy that scheme. ;)

Kei Nagase livery looks awesome !. Hopefully Hase reissues this one at some point. I missed the opportunity when it came out, but I'm not willing to pay for an overpriced kit.

  • 1 month later...

I've never seen Ace Combat myself, but that's a good-looking fighter. I think it would be neat to decorate it with U.N AIR FORCE decals from the Hasegawa VF-1A Low Visibilty kit. The JASDF kit is reasonably priced on Amazon right now (around $32 with free shipping to the U.S.).  If I didn't already have so many kits on the shelf...

I knew I'd heard about them announcing something, but I must have mistook it for the Reactive Armor kit or... something. Good to know, hopefully it's a new tooling instead of reusing the Yamato one. (Wasn't their VF-0 basically a Yamato reissue? I forget...)

It's better if we continue the discussion on the proper thread. But yes, both the recent VF-0S/A and the upcoming SV-51 are new molds. So you can probably say it's a 'renewal' or some sort. ^_^

Unfortunately Hasegawa usually doesn't reissue their older "Limited Edition" kits that fall under third party license schemes ("Special Edition" kits on the other hand do get reissued). Creative Works kits seem to be different, though...

One I know of is their Virtual-On Shadow Temjin kit, which got issued as a limited edition first, and then was reissued years later due to popular demand as a less-limited release. That one made me rage, because I had just paid a lot of money for the original limited kit when they announced the reissue...which also had no differences with the original release.
