Slowly moving my collection on new apartaments (: Half it there!

Looks good!  Not to disparage your display, but if you want a more invisible string, try fluorocarbon fishing line.  It's more expensive but thinner and clearer than regular mono line.

Yep, it was first test and i thought right about this! To make it more invisible. Thank you for advice!

Are those Detolf's? Where did you get the pedestals they're on (I'm guessing IKA, but what are they called)? The main thing I don't like about the Detolf's is that the bottom display section/cube is on the ground. I like what you did there.

Can you take a close up pick of some of those cards next to the figures? What do you have going on there?

I can tell you that's the IKEA Klingsblo upright version.

There's other display case options that you can find from Ikea and look through Craigslist if you want more variety and more budget friendly options.

My problem has been finding just the right stuff. I looked at everything new and couldn't really find what I wanted. Found some cabinets that are pretty good on FB. But I'm going to need more room.

Thanks!!!

So, these are modified IKEA Klingsbo cabinets, they sit on a TV stand i got from Amazon.

I actually wish i had gone with the Detolf’s way back when as it took quite a bit of effort to take a metal saw to the curved bottom portion of the cabinet legs.

The Detolf also gives more clearance between each shelf than these.

Thanks for the heads up.

BTW: We have very similar collections/tastes.

The cabinets that I have the back/inside walls mirrored. I'm not quite sure if that's a plus or a minus (they aren't set up yet). Flipping through here it looks like most cabinets are clear in the back so in most cases you get a white background. I'm not sure that is 100% ideal either. I have some reconditioning to do on the cabs anyway. I was thinking that I could leave the back walls mirrors, cover them with black or grey or maybe white. What say you? What would be your ideal background color? If you have any pics of non white or mirrored backgrounds please post them up.

Thanks!

Mirrored sounds good to me so you have more views of your display items. But when possible, I like making backgrounds for my displays so the items look like they are in their intended environment. I also plan on having prints behind some shelves and other than those, I think a plain background of whatever color the shelf is works too. I have Black, white and wood color shelves.

Here are some examples of various items on various types of shelves with various backgrounds.

If you don't want it mirrored and don't want to do backgrounds, try lining the back with black velvet.  The acetate type works best.  It's the closest thing to vantablack the average consumer can get, and thus it looks like space.  Route a few fiber optic strands from your light source, poke them into the fabric from the back, and you'll have stars too!

That was helpful. I dig the "inside of the ship background" for some displays for sure. Thanks!

I was thinking that "space" would be a cool background. You're more thought out than me though. Any thoughts on how to get the velvet to stick to the mirror and can still be removed if need be? Not a zero effort removal. Just removable with a scarper and solvent or something.

It's a definite plus.  I use mirrored backgrounds as much as possible, for a variety of reasons...

1701396811_doublesthenumberoffiguresvisible.thumb.jpg.82dae871da8a0734854f8bd303c25b91.jpg

First, it makes sparsely-decorated displays look fuller, by doubling the number of visible subjects...

1696222747_increasesambientlightlevel.thumb.jpg.ee7416248b7017c0c7de13ccfd1e04a3.jpg

It considerably increases the amount of visible light in your displays, which is particularly useful for illuminating lower shelves...

2127809928_suggestsinfinitespace.thumb.jpg.82b3ac29d81f5aa8137ae3e37488576b.jpg

It reflects whatever you've displayed on the facing wall, providing more visual interest...

1451098703_reflectsotherdisplays.thumb.jpg.c3dc092137223f03c91fae04b14d33e2.jpg

It can greatly enhance the perceived sense of space in the room...

975530894_givestheimpressionofgreaterspace.thumb.jpg.762ecd69cef21042a93cb58ada4e4ccb.jpg

It can provide the illusion of infinite depth...

1336520758_theillusionofdepth.thumb.jpg.3af03aebd4fa38f7d08ad5ca8c63c0ee.jpg

...and of course, allows your subjects to be visible from front and back simultaneously.  ^_^

240414444_multipleperspectives.thumb.jpg.ad79e5daa65fd50310771f2cfd6fc50f.jpg

I've spent a great deal of time and effort mounting mirrors in showcases and behind shelves, and would never even consider covering up existing ones...!

After seeing/reading this I'm going to start with mirrored. Then add backgrounds as I feel they're needed. Thanks!

My only issue with mirror is that since it makes your displays look more full, if you’re really packing things in it starts looking cramped and overly busy.

That was one thing I was worried about too. The current plan is to not be packing stuff in............We'll see how that works out.........:D

I decided to go with some different cases when I found a great deal on these while out of town in Chicago. Finally finished setting them up and cleaned (that's a lot of glass to clean!). Time to start loading in and unboxing toys!

Would love to get that type of case. Shipping fees make any type of new display case a no go.

The shipping isn't too bad considering what it is. First off it's HEAVY. I had to lift one up/down a few times yesterday and no kidding, I think they're 300#+. Secondly, it's BIG with no shipping "crate". It's got to be pretty big crated up. If I were to get one of these new lift gate delivery (assuming you don't have a loading dock) it's only $162 (to my location). Not a bad shipping cost really. It's also not a big percentage of the unit price. That could be looked at as glass half full or half empty. The cases are EXPENSIVE, so the shipping is low by comparison.

Man I got a deal on these! I paid $450 per case. They're $1238 per case  with the LED lights (halogen is $200 less).

They're pretty pricey, but they're really nice and you have a TON of shelf space. Detolfs are great cases and you can't beat the price. I felt that they limited me quite a bit because of how wide they're not which limits a lot of display options. That said, I'm probably going to get two Detolfs for either side of these big gases. The Detolfs have more vertical room (15 3/8" to 15 3/4" depending on what shelf you're on. The big case shelves are at  14.4". That little bit a Detolf has in extra vertical room really makes a difference with some display combinations. For example, I'm going to be using dual Yeti stands to mount lets;'s say two 1/48 VF-1S's with S&S parts. One in Batroid the other in Gerwalk. That extra height of the Detolf is really needed if you want them in an action pose(s).

If anyone is interested here are the same cases.

That's a great price for your displays with shipping.  In my case, either shipping choices would cost more than the display itself since it's heavy and would need to be sent via boat.
