Finally got to see this! Thank you for posting!!

It is fantastic! :)

I just don't understand why they made the vf-1j head darker on both kites

once is accidental, twice deliberate ha

The gundam and zaks look normal, so can only assume it was unfamiliarity.

It's Ohsato......they were apparently privy to some early alternate version of SDFM no one else has ever seen! :)

A version with flying destroids....

Alternate weapon configurations...

And slightly modified, yet vaguely similar, character costumes and designs......

So basically Macross the First!

For the GPB, the chest probably SHOULD have opened that way, makes much more sense

I never noticed the vf-1j holding the gunpod tail in the left hand for stabilization...groovy

That's just how Masami Watanabe rolled!

He most likely was handed the line art and color charts for all the mecha and characters and then quickly tossed all of it into the first trash bin he saw!

Love his illustrations....wish there was a book with his collected works....it would be an insta-buy for me...

I remember seeing the 3 shot missile launchers above the shoulders of the gerwalk mode, on a Kawamori drawn poster before. So some of those discrepancies may be based on pre-production drawings.

I think I know which illustration you are reffering to....there is also the illustration from the vintage Victor promo poster....the hardware from this poster look like those used on the Destroid Tomahawk....

In Delta's terms it would be "Break the Wind".

Anyway, someone should 3D print those parts for the VF-1!
