Inviting those with knowledge to post what Macross items will be available the following sunday, 19th Feb 2017 at Wonder Festival Winter 2017.

I will start the ball rolling with this 1/72 die-cast F-14 Tomcat in Macross livery.

Good question: if we go with the fiction, I know they tested the valk legs on a Tomcat, so they probably installed them to "improve performance".

If we go with real life: there goes the nose (including the poor pilot and RIO!), the glove vanes, and anywhere else they put them!

If we go with REALITY, the Macross hasn't arrived on South Ataria Island (almost 20 years late on that one!), the Tomcat has been retired, and the only "vernier" we have is the stuff on my desk that keeps peeling. :D

I'd say its more like who ever made the decals assumed they were decoration and not a "functional item" and reproduced them on the F14. That guy or girl probably knew very little about Macross and was just doing another day in the office.

I made the placement of the thrust vectors.

You did the decaling? What was the intent of the F14A with conventional engines having Overtech verniers?

Nice company logo too, that would make a good Unit logo on the tail of a plane.

This is the back story that I have drafted to support the rendition of this model

"The F-14 Tomcat was retired from operational service by the US Navy in 2006.

But unbeknownst to many, the F-14 would serve another 4 years as a developmental craft for the UN SPACY.

Test pilots from the US & Japan were involved in this program and logged an undisclosed number of successful test flights.

The F-14D was modified and fitted with vector thrusters on 7 panels distributed evenly across the airframe for aerodynamic stability. 2 variants, Block 20 & Block 40 were code named the J Type and S Type respectively.

Both were fitted with an advanced intelligent IFF weapons system equipped with fire-and-forget guidance on modified AIM-54D Phoenix missiles - this would evolve into the RMS-1. This technology was amongst the cornerstone that paved way to the ANGIRAS (system) which were deployed in 2012 on the Advanced VF-1 Valkyrie.

The program was satisfactorily concluded on 11 November 2010, with the positive results transitioning into the next phase VF-1X program.

The UN SPACY engineers and scientists deemed the F-14’s airframe ideal for its variable fighter development and kept its fundamentals including elements of the sweep wings for the Advanced Valkyrie prototypes.

The final mass produced VF-1 became the mainstay of the UN SPACY armoury."

By all that is holy... I knew I was making an error not blowing off work and going into Wonderfest.
I'll wager all the VF-1S went in a heartbeat. :(

Ah well.... You snooze, you lose, I suppose.

I think Blackaces here on this forum was responsible for producing them...

maybe with the advent of overtuned engines allowing the Tomcat to fly at much higher altitudes where control surfaces become less effective so thrusters allow the pilot to maintain control.

and or to improve maneuverability throughout its entire performance envelope?

Frameout models, VF-1X++. This was for the last time it was released. I found 2 last time but didn't win the auctions.

It's a really well put together collectible.  Original price on each of the two variants offered was 19,800 JPY.
