Macross City from Macross Plus

Does anyone know roughly where on the planet earth Macross City (SDF-1's resting place) is as in Macross Plus? I'm working on a personal project and could use the information.

Officially, it's in Alaska near the former site of Grand Cannon 1.

Based on Macross Chronicle's map of the Grand Cannon locations, it's probably somewhere in the vicinity of the Yukon-Charlie Rivers National Preserve.

A couple of things to keep in mind:

• that was at their headquarters
• the rest of the world was pretty much completely destroyed*
• it was also the only place left on Earth still broadcasting a radio signal after the big battle.

Makes sense to land next to survivors where there's a chance to get supplies for your broken ship.

Well, to be fair... the entire surface of the Earth was a pretty crappy place to land by the time they got 'round to landing on it.

After the Boddole Zer main fleet got done with it, Earth was a planet that had a LOT of problems.  The damage was so extensive that the New UN Government is stuck trying to mitigate the damage by terraforming the planet back into something halfway liveable, and it's expected that it'll take millennia to finally restore the planet to something resembling its prewar state.  With the planet's biosphere all but annihilated, one of the biggest problems was that the composition of the atmosphere was altered leading to significant global warming that necessitated using both technologies to shade the planet and engineered bacteria to restore the proper atmospheric composition.  The contaminants kicked up into the atmosphere by the bombardment also necessitated a cleanup (though apparently the global warming was enough to offset nuclear winter?).  On top of that, there was radioactive contamination from things like destroyed nuclear plants and shipboard reactors which had to be cleaned up by engineered bacteria, and the ever-present threat of debris ranging from random shrapnel to crippled starships falling out of orbit onto your head.

Alaska seems like a relatively smart place to stay, and that specific location seems like an especially advantageous one considering:

• It was conveniently close to the destroyed Grand Cannon 1, meaning they had easy access to salvagable refined metals and working technology.
• Its location in or near the former Yukon-Charlie Rivers Nature Preserve puts it relatively close to two major rivers to provide fresh water (after cleanup) and far enough north that latitude might compensate somewhat for global warming.
• It's a relatively isolated area, meaning the level of local contamination was probably lower compared to formerly urban areas where whole towns had been vaporized.
• Aircraft with thermonuclear reaction turbine engines aren't going to care much about the distance, since there's almost nowhere else to go and the technology is legendarily fuel efficient meaning they don't have to be terribly concerned about running out of fuel on the way back from wherever.  With approximately 700 hours between refuelings, the VF-1 can go pretty much anywhere.

But to set a bunch of context, odds are the SDF-1 crew were thinking short-term while choosing a place to land, and not about rebuilding the planet. After the battle, the ship was probably busted to heck and back and HAD to land, or else lose the ship entirely - it was probably venting too much atmosphere to make staying in orbit (where presumably the remaining rebel Zentradi would help) an option. So, with literally only minutes or at most a few hours to figure things out, they detected Misa's radio signal and made a call that if they had to land, may as well be where anyone could potentially help (or has been mentioned, at least where there was a fair chance of finding stuff with which to help themselves if Britai and his gang decided to suddenly end their alliance but NOT nuke the ashes after all). I think it was foregone that the Macross would never fly again (at that time), so I can see them choosing Alaska in haste instead of thinking where best to put down ahead of reconstructing the home world.

So you're saying that body of water the ship was parked in might have been less of a lake and more of a septic tank?
