What if macross delta had movies ?

They can do an abridged version of the series and try tie up some lose ends but personally why even bother.

None of the characters are interesting.

Give us a 1yr later OVA where Mirage is captain of Delta squad, Arad is in a more senior position and Walkure is doing a planetary tour in the cluster.

I don't want a retelling, I want more stories.

I want to see them a 1 (or 5) year(s) later, I want some Megaload action.

I want Mikumo backstory scenes and Mirage finding her groove WITHOUT Hayate.

Some NUNS off shoot can be the bad guys, trying to re-use the mind control equipment, then we can see some combined Windemerean and Xaos sorties

(But years later in some other feature or media, I want a Marvel style funeral with Mirage in attendance and the flame rekindled with Hayate - maybe Mirage could be Hayate's daughter flight instructor or something).

I'm fine with Delta, I just want more.

What would I want a Macross Delta movie to be?

3. Cancelled.

Seriously, the second cour of the series was such a train wreck that Macross Delta just doesn't DESERVE a movie. If I had my way, I'd quietly scrub the series from the continuity and pretend it never happened, like Sunrise did to G-Saviour. The only way I could consider them doing a film would be if they fired the writers of the series and hired someone else who could clean up the mess the current mooks made.

Under new writers, I'd prefer to have a compilation-type movie in the hopes that an alternate version of the story by another writer wouldn't leave me wanting a refund.

Having completely disengaged from the series by now (I've not bothered to pay attention to the show since the late teens or so, and have downloaded but not watched any of the last four or five episodes), I'd like to see a movie that just completely reboots the story. Not a retelling, not an adaptation. Go back to the original idea: competing air shows. Keep the scope of the story limited and personal. On the fringe battlegrounds of a war, if you absolutely must. A relatively small and ultimately unimportant skirmish. A war in the pocket, if you will.

I doubt they'll go that route, of course. That said, I like all the Macross movie adaptations just fine. Took me a while to warm up to the Frontier movies, but eventually I turned around on those as well. And Macross Plus makes for a better movie than an OVA. I'm sure if they did make one/two/three, I'd end up enjoying those as much as if not more than I did the series.

Here is my suggest for the movie: Macross Civil Wars.

NUNS lost probably 1/3 to half of its fleet. In history, if a central military force suddenly lost its grip of power, it would lead to rebellion all over the country. Everyone is fighting for dominance. The colonies or the Macross fleets can be just the front of the power struggle between Burger and Lady-M underneath, like in real world, governments are proxy fighting wars for the big corporates. Mirage and Miku could be the protagonist of the new movie, give them the development they deserved in the TV series. Hiyata and Freya are retired, only show up at the very end to save the day.

what I mean about retelling delta story are same characters but with different plot. let say they have real battle between winderemere fleet vs xaos+local NUNS. epic valk dogfight, more macross cannon attack. and the var song by heinz are not so dominate like in the series.

winderemere have more than one sigur valens class and xaos+local NUNS fight them with elysion class fleet + quarter + NMCV.

:D

Fire everyone involved at the staff level for Delta and bring back the crew who made the Macross Frontier movies so there will be massive retcons to create a decent story, real character development, some actual Valkyrie action, more then two listenable songs and make the Wind Marty Stus less so.

Maybe some actual cameos, like that one moment during the Wings of Goodbye.

yeah I wouldnt mind seeing a new story with Mirage gaining her ace skills and heck if there must be a romantic triangle have it be with two guys chasing after her (or shoot two girls I dont care).....

Haha that would be a refreshing change.

More seriously, I think they need new writers who can make better use of the characters, with a better story, and more valk action scenes. Though I wonder if Kawamori cares since he's got that new anime project going.

I am pretty sure if there is a MD movie, Kawamori would make Mirage to be one of the Walkyries too. :p

Motto: "Music is nonsense!"

Thus far, most if not all Macross movies are a retelling of the original stories. DYRL, M+, MF... But it can be very different presentation. It may actually work to condense into fours hours, focus on the several main characters and introduce new combat scenes.

This... Trim Walkure to a duo :p (if you can't erase it completely lol) and bring back Yoko Kanno.

One of the issues with Delta is it's cast is too big. A movie wont fix that as realistically they can't just cut out a part of the cast without severe public outcry and negativity towards that very action. Even if it helps the story massively. Even a retelling cant touch Walkure as thats their money making machine out of all this. Boom 5 semi-lead characters right out the bat again.

I'm hoping to see a movie production come out just to see what happens. Would I want it to actually be good? Sure. I think all of us would. Will it actually be any good? Strong reservations.

A movie could focus on ONE member of Walkure. Most likely Freyja as the new girl learning the ropes, possibly Mikump as the three-year-old with the ubervoice. The rest of Walkure would exist for singing and as minor characters.

Would they do that? No, of course not. But they could, and it would work.

Or actually kill off more than two side characters. The Gundam age of Macross had too many for me to actually care. Only Hideo Kojima can pull off "It was Nanomachines" and have character's survive without it being a load of BS.

Yoko Kanno was pretty much the reason Frontier had the best music of the franchise. But that's the inner Ghost in the Shell fanboy speaking.

Scaling back the Japanese wehraboo/IJAraboo garbage would also improve the story. It's like they wanted them to be Zeon but failed to/ to dumb to realize what made Zeon good antagonists in the first place. Instead falling back on IRArabbos and Fujoshi to make the Wind Stu's seem justified in what they were doing.

A movie at this point means either 2 things.

1. An admission that the series was a mistake and now they are being jerks by making you pay to see a movie version that fixes their mistakes.

2 They want you to suffer some more.

Something close to this should be said to the red haired Wind Stu.

To paraphrase Rocket Raccoon.
"Aww, boo-hoo. My sisters are dead." Everybody's got dead people! But that’s no excuse to use mind control on everyone else in the galaxy.”

Though even as his worst, Drax is a better person than any of the Wind Stus.

I need a beach scene with all the females in swimsuits like the pic. Followed by an introduction of a species with tentacles that grows larger the more it gathers energy via physical "touch". Make it grow large enough where they need to call in all the valks and destroids where a massive battle scene ensues which makes the aliens multiply then combine which causes the Macross Elysion to appear and launches VF-31As with the new "stinger" armored packs and fires the Macross cannon to little effect. While that's going on, have someone figure out that these things can be reverted back via singing. Insert walkure singing and the aliens revert back to normal....

....which causes a dissolve to a Chuck lying in a sea of beer cans and jellyfish jerky waking up with a hangover saying "Maybe I shouldn't have done that"

Make whatever "plot" that can make this scene happen!

Hold on there!  That scene alone is way too much plot for Delta.

The established pattern for Macross movies, since DYRL is to be a parallel world story. A chance to do things that were cut due to budget reasons(like multiple quarters in Frontier), and to streamline the story. And, for Bandai to demand a new more powerful Valkyrie to be made so they can have an exclusive license to sell it.

Valkyries dancing during the combat scenes was a little too much for me.  Then they jumped on the Zombie bandwagon.  Yes, music is fundamental to Macross but so is the combat and the impact of war on the characters.   I think Delta should not do a movie and just let the series fade into memory and be forgotten.

Mehh the dancing was the best mecha stuff in the series. Why they didn't focus any in the fact that Hyate was a var immune melee specialist (which is fricken perfect as a bodyguard) as the only reason they put up with his bullshit I will never understand.

Movies would be good. There is a good story in delta they just put it together upside down and inside out.

They forgot the dancing pretty quick... by the second cour it was basically forgotten until the series finale.  It wasn't even particularly good mecha footage, it was just the best of a distinctly unsatisfying lot.  For a series that was trying to hard to be Frontier 2.0 you'd think they'd have followed Frontier's near-ideal mecha-music balance.  Instead we got something that's hard to defend against accusations of being "PreCure with robots" because the balance was skewed so heavily towards the singers and they only reluctantly explained what the hell was going on.

They didn't focus on Hayate being immune to Var syndrome because they made a plot point out of the fact that he wasn't.  He had reasonable resistance to it, same as the others who had never succumbed to it before, but in the second cour he started experiencing the same symptoms that preceded Messer's messy death as a result of Freyja's fold song increasing in power.  Not only did he get Var syndrome, he's the only character in the series to get it from a member of Walkure instead of from Heinz.  The only reason they put up with his nonsense is Arad's past relationship with Hayate's dead dad and the usual "he's a natural pilot" schtick (well, that and nobody bloody listens to Mr. Messer "Fun Times" Ihlefeld, the man so stiff and inflexible the stick up his arse has a stick up its arse).

I definitely still stand by my statement from last September... the only thing a Macross Delta movie should be is Cancelled.

The individual pieces of Macross Delta are anywhere from passable to excellent, but the writers failed to seal the deal so completely and comprehensively that they actually managed to put together a whole less than the sum of its parts.  I don't think I could stand to see Macross waste that much potential TWICE, and I don't think compaction into a two hour movie would do anything for the fundamental problem.

The Hyate getting var was my most hated plot point of the show. They set the rule that he should be as imune as Walkure because he has fold receptors, then he got it...... After doing the same with Messer. Best yet itt was utterly pointless Since the over boosting from Freyja being bad for his heath would have been a way better conflict.

The reluctance to explain what the he'll was going on was the core of most of the problems there were so very many things teased and teased and after they finally did a reveal we all went ".....and..... Go on..... That's all? ...... Really!".

That's Why I have some hope they could do it right in two, two hour movies they wouldn't have time to faf about pointlesly.

I still have some shred of optimism left damn it! ;p
