I think you all miss the point: all this is supposed to make the ending meaningful... what I am curious about is how they make tie-ins from the original 3rd season (and make it work sensibly). We've only seen 2 major empires in Yamato reboot. When will we see hints of either the Black Nebula or Bolan Empires?

May be it's just me, but I thought the end of 2199 was meaningful, and  it had a good story.  Without going to the series, and besides Zordar and Sabera, can you name one other Gatlantian?  I know I can't, because none of them matter, they exist to die at the very next convenient moment.  I can name several blue dudes without even trying, Dietz (father and daughter), Talan brothers, Berger, Frakken... all memorable characters with build up, and interesting side stories.  Those are all side characters, not main ones like Domel or Dessler.

Kobayashi posted details of the Yamato-colored Andromeda.

So some details:

  • It's got "high maneuver" thruster nozzles
  • The double WMG is split like the WMG on the Dreadnought

So Kobayashi didn't bother giving it an actual name, just the "Andromeda Yamanami Special" like it's some sort of ace custom mech instead of a military warship crewed by hundreds of people. The ID is also weird, ZZZ-0001YF-2203.

I like the design overall—Andromeda looks great in Yamato colors—but once again I've niggling issues that hamper my enjoyment.

Would like to see some models of it though. The only real thing that would need to be added is the divider in the WMG, which shouldn't be too hard.

and that's why antimatter chick wants to save them: because atm, they are ALL disposable toons. Even the thousand-ship Cosmo Navy fleet suffers from that Malady: We know a few of those ship's names and even less of their individual crews...

I think what we have now is horrible writing, you can have robots that aren't written in such a bland manner.

Wait... what... so, they're just going to make that dual deck carrier ten times normal size, and that's it...   let me know when the subs are done.  And let me know when Dessler get in on the act.  It looks like WMG are about to rapidly become obsolete as weapons.  And here is emo Kodai still whining about it.

And from the looks of it, all of those pretty pretty dreadnoughts are going to be nothing more than a bunch of space stormtroopers.  Hey, Zordar, why not kill the Gamilas first...

Yeah I love 2199 a lot. I've spent hours combing through obscure lore stuff and miscellaneous trivia and Google translating Japanese blogs and drawing ships. That doesn't mean I'm not aware of its flaws, like egregious fanservice at times, frakking up stuff like the timeline, and Dessler's ??? actions toward the end.

2202 has just enough potentially good elements that I'm invested in seeing how it turns out (if nothing more than to rewrite it in fanfiction), but a lot of flaws that severely hamper my enjoyment of it.

My sentiment exactly.  And besides, I grew up watching the original, I do like the reboot.  I thought 2199 was better than the original season 1.  It gave you an appreciation of the enemy as not a bunch of one dimensionals.  Not necessarily the case for 2202 vs the original season 2.  although if I had to compare it, original season 1 and season 2 had the same tone, even if I thought season 2 was better.

I liked it. It's a little hard to get back up to speed after a couple of months between releases but I was entertained through those last four.

It looks like they will be ramping up for the major battles and those fleet actions so far look pretty cool. I just hope it isn't all one-sided with the Earth fleet being decimated with hardly any throw back. Cool seeing the Patrol Cruiser in there too. I still have about four unbuilt, but we can expect some new tooled kits coming out after this then! Also some nice shots of some battleship porn! The one battleship rising up out of the water looked sick!

nah, I imagine it'll follow the original pretty well.   Mega attack by the ten billion Gatlantis ships killing Earth cruisers until Andromedan fights back, and probably use WMG to destroy the Gatlantis fleet.  Then cue Gatlantis to wipe out the human fleet, and finale.

Although I do wish they have the carrier battles, in the original season 2, Gatlantis was made out to have a very carrier heavy fleet with awesome fighters, only to be pearl harbored  by Yamato and three dinky carriers.

I am SUCH a fan of 2199 and it disappoints me to see that 2202 is an incoherent, uninspiring story.  Considering how far into the series they've gotten it's not going to change.   All I have to look forward to now is the obligatory ship combat/demolition derby and a Chokogin release of the 2202 Andromeda.  C'est la vie...

Well, it seems like 2202 is going for overkill here.  The first episode was not bad, and then we found out that Gatlantis cruiser was nothing but a one in a million.  So, basically, not that special.  And now for the next insult, we'll take those dreadnaughts and hit the copy and paste button.  I'm sure the battle will be as spectacular as the plot is nonsensical.  I mean, where the frigging hell did all those dreadnaughts come from?  Don't give me that bullshit with the Dance of Time.  Yup, it's like the Incredibles all over again, we'll make everyone special, so no one is.

And I just noticed, even the WMG aren't special any more, even the old Earth cruisers have it... OMG.  Somebody let loose the chaos monkey apparently.

As to the WMG, if you have a wave motion engine, which all of them do have, then you automatically get the wave motion gun. I forget the particulars of how it works, but the 'super gun' is the by-product of the engine itself. I'm sure they could build ships without the gun part of the hardware, but if they're building up a battle fleet to guard Earth then they would  want one of those in every hull.

And what we are seeing is what Starsha warned them about. At the height of Iscandar's power they were using the WMG without consequence, and it's a real fear that Earth will start doing the same. I don't think they're wrong in using the WMG in defense, but it never takes much to justify just a single use of that kind of power without provocation, and then you're on the slippery slope.

So... where were those on the very first battle in episode one.  Why did we need the Andromeda when clearly, all of those old earth ships had wave motion engines to jump back and forth.    Oh I get it, it's for dramatic effect.... so we can have the big Andromeda reveal.

Lots of reasons why they didn't use WMGs in Eps. #1: Technical restrictions in place at that time on small boats, may not have wanted to reveal that even small ships had WMG capacity, or smaller ships had the equivalent of Wave Motion French Ticklers [thus: WMFT] instead...?

Have to ask the writers...;)

A possible answer is that they were still incorporating the gun hardware into the smaller ships and they just weren't ready by the time of the battle in the first episode.

And who knows, they might actually give us an answer.

The only ship designs not seen yet is the Destroyers (no WMG visible) and the original BCV's. If i had to guess, they might still be designs to be used for next season?

what do those Quad Triple Barrel mounts do? Both the original Destroyers and Cruisers had those guns but that have never been seen used...

We also haven't seen the EDF battlecruiser.

The triple turrets are torpedo launchers.

I remember those, I always thought those ships were truly overgunned.  Too bad we never saw them in action other than as canon fodder.

The Japanese translation (from the old series) those were cruisers, and the dreadnaughts were considered battleships.

Season 2 really had some good earth warships, it's just that none were ever in action for long.

I know it sounds wrong, but I wouldn't mind if they made a spin off series with one of those ships in the lead, and the Yamato only in passing.

Compared to the other EDF ships:
LQb89BO.png

125 meters is a bit smaller than I expected, but it's still longer than the original length of 112 meters. Now I hope we can see the other EDF ships!

I'm liking the looks of that!  Really hoping the model of it comes out quick, maybe in a fleet set with the Kongo class.

I had started to build one of my Andromedas but I think I'll wait now until they come out. I really want to use the guns on those to add extra punch to mine.

No, just me?

Hooray! I was going to wait for it to come out on blu, but this will do since Funimation is busy at the moment releasing 2199 to disc.

Thanks, @Keith!B))
