Galaxy_Stranger
Has anybody used Tamiya X-19 smoke? Got any examples of how dark you can get it? Do you have a choice of how dark it looks?
MechTech
No photos, but it depends upon application tool and how thin you use it. I used it on canopies thinned and applied with a brush; it looked great (sorry, no surviving examples). I've also seen people airbrush it on too. The same goes for the other clear colors. I've also seen people add it to Finish and dip their canopies in it. Just do a search here for it, it's somewhere. Multiple coats (after curing) with an airbrush and you can get it DARK! Hope that helps! - MT
Galaxy_Stranger
Yeah - that's exactly what I needed to know. From images online, it LOOKED like the effect was varied but I wasn't sure. Thanks!
electric indigo
One advice, though - I sprayed pure smoke on the inside of a canopy and ended up with a frosted look, got it clear again after applying some goss clear on top. So it would be better to use a mix of smoke and gloss coat from the beginning.
NZEOD
you can also tint clear parts with clothes dyes
derex3592
I've used it thinned down a lot to give an overall dirty look to all my Millinium Falcon models, be careful, you can over do it without realizing you're over doing it!
Galaxy_Stranger
Is it glossy on its own, or does it require a gloss finish for that?
MechTech
Straight brushed on its glossy. Thinned will make it semi-gloss or flat depending on the ratio. - MT
