That ridge behind the cockpit is just a mistransformation like the crooked nose cone right?? I gotta say I'm not a huge fan of the VF-31's nose and canopy shape but that Messer paintjob is still sexy

I agree. That scheme is superb and sexy. But you have to admit, a touch of red will make a big difference.

Quick question, were there two different reaper emblems used at various points in the series? I remember one looking like an actual skull, but another was actually a valkyrie's head instead.

Yeah, there was Messer's emblem, with the skull and scythe, then Hayate's replacement 31J had a winged knight helmet emblem, along with black added to it's blue trim.

Was just looking at a tomytec custom whilst in this thread...https://twitter.com/eikoku2016/status/804367219035492352

Its hayate's version of the knight...emblem is less gritty .. I prefer messer's version but thats a subjective opinion...tho i prefer an 05 with an emblem instead of a regular nekkid 05...

I think it's just a prototype. They surely wouldn't need a clear arm holding the gappy chest section in gerwalk right?

Edit: Love that battroid stance though.

I think the clear arm (and probably the clear blocks too) was there to support how the Gerwalk was displayed kind of angled on one side. You can see that the right leg is not touching the glass shelf. ;)

thank you for clearing that up. I am already panicking due to low funds and I really want Messer VF

Graham just said we don't know that Messer's VF-31F is the next release. He didn't say it's not Messer. Hahaha!

Just messing with you chyll2. ;) Besides, everyone's funds tends to become super low before the Holiday Season. ^_^

Hayate's new 31J looks a lot better in that pic than i remember it being in the show.

It only looked that way in the final episode. Added black striping and the emblem make a big difference. How many will double dip for the second Hayate valk now? Or who is hoping to hold off until the inevitable second version is released?

True. But there is there another one supporting battroid mode in the rear on top of the clear block.

No i realize that. I wasn't impressed with the additions on the 31J in the last episode when i first watched it. That picture above makes me love it more now.

Yeah, I see those as well. But it's not clear what part of the battroid is supporting. I'm assuming it holds or support the wing part.

But for now, it's really hard to speculate or even panic that even in Battroid mode we need those supporting stand. Think of this way, those shelves and displays are showcased in a public place like malls, expos, etc. People might bump the shelf accidentally. So the support stands really helps. And to be honest, even if I don't bump my small shelf, I really want to have a clear support stand on most of my Frontier Valks for the wings since those are back heavy. Just saying. ^_^

Given they've already made this toy in the form of the 30 there's zero reason to speculate that something won't hold together. These are there purely to keep a figure in a case that's always in danger of getting bumped to stay standing. I mean, unless Bandai just really screwed this release up.

I mean, it wouldn't be anything new for them to do...

*Stares at piles of broken CF-171 parts*

I'm not terribly worried about this design, but between the difficulty (or flat-out impossibility) of finding replacement parts when things break, and past experience with Bandai "engineering," my standard operating procedure is to buy two of everything in the hope that even if something fails catastrophically on both of them, I might have enough good parts to cobble together one completely functional valk. <_<

I'm probably in the minority when I say that I'm not fond of Messer's color scheme. I get that people want a more "realistic" or less garish color, but low-viz schemes usually don't look impressive on the shelf. Among my VF-25 DX's, it's actually Luca's minty green valk that immediately catches and holds my attention.

I've also lost enthusiasm for the emblem on the back. I thought I'd like them a lot before getting Ozma's valk, but the longer I own it, the more I realize that it doesn't really do much for me. I actually prefer the naked paint job of Hayate's VF-31 over the one with the emblem.

If I was going to choose among the 5 main VF-31's, I'd probably just go with Hayate's and Mirage's first. Arad's comes last though because while I am not fond of low-vis anymore, they're still better than overly colorful schemes like his.

Slightly off-topic: Who is the most formidable pilot (in their custom valk) in Frontier and Delta in 1 vs 1? I personally think Brera in his Super VF-27 is the best.

Same for me, prefer clean VF-31J without emblem, and that black lines don't mix well with blue for me personally. It feels like they forced Hayate to become the next Messer by combining their colours/ emblem, while Hayate still far from good in terms of skill, Must get wind power from Freya

Most formidable pilot in Delta, probably Messer.

Brera vs Messer, Brera probably will win, since he's enchanced human or fully android with experiences

You guys pretty much hit the nail on the head. I like the emblem on Ozma cos he was a badass, but Messer was a little emo for me. At least Hayate wasn't as grouchy as Alto. Mirage is a must have since they really need to add female pilots.

Of all the Macross shows over the years with their myriad of flaws and shortcomings, Delta is the only one that feels like a soulless byproduct of committee thinking. Forcing Hayate into Messer's shoes as the new grim reaper was completely hollow and meaningless, unlike the natural progression of Hikaru taking over for Roy. They go through the motions but have no clue what the motions represent.

That said, I'll still buy all the variants because I love valkyries and am a consumer whore. So I guess the Delta committee succeeded in its goals after all. :p

I'd probably give the nod to Alto in the -29. But he and Brera are neck and neck. None of the Delta pilots compare imo. They're all too stuck on fighter-mode, almost like the VF-171 pilots in Frontier. But Messer would be the closest

Man I still remember how badass Messer (and Arad) seemed in the first episode.

Loved his little countdown in German. At least Messer mostly lived up to that up until his death. Wish I could say the same for Arad.

After rewatching Frontier recently I found it pretty funny how much of a grouch Alto was. Dude was seriously high-strung. Hayate's laidback nature is a nice contrast. Too bad

he doesn't have the piloting skill to back it up. It's weird how someone who was introduced as a battroid mode specialist ended up falling into the fighter-only trap too
