LAST UPDATE 1st April 2019:

Decided to make a new version that can fully open and with a better head, more info can be found in my FB page

As mentioned earlier, here comes my new smaller project for Macross Zero. It would be a perfect addon to any VF-0D or SV-51 CF version!

This is the head of the Bird-Human that appears in Macross Zero in various episodes. It appears at different times in the OVAs with different level of details (and scales...)

I am still hesitating for the scale and have to decide if it will be 9m or 10m long, the pictures below shows the 10m version.

Because of the "limestone rock" aspect of the head, I am planning to make this design available on Shapeways in "Full color sandstone" material, because this material is fragile and cannot be to much manipulated, the sandstone parts would be used over a articulated skeleton in WSF plastic so that it can be transformed!

So this thing is gonna hopefully transform like a blossoming flower as seen in the underwater scene and would display the head with a moving eye.

The model is well advanced right now, but still processing.

Decided that it would be 9.7m long, 162mm at 1:60 scale. Due to the complexity of the figure, I could not use the "Full color Sandstone" material as planned, so it would be available only in WSF plastic.

Also I couldn't figure out how to make the head to fully open. I use the WSF flexibility so it can open a few degrees, I will test how much we can open the figure once I got the printed parts.

Here what I got so far:

In the mean time, protoypes have arrived today. Pretty happy with the result.

The WSF plastic is so flexible that the head can open in the blossoming position with the current design! Unexpected!

Tonight I will be having a closer look at the parts and see if I can upgrade a few things:

-I would like to make a new part that would act as a ground stand and would also maintain the head in full open position.

-I want to add a stronger locking mechanism so that the head stays in closed position more firmly than actually.

I will adjust the Shapeways model to make a stronger closed position and make it available to order. Should be fast.

Additionally, I didn't want to make a new thread for the 2 vehicles in these pictures: Ozma Lee's car and a simple Aircraft tug both made in 1/60 scale, mounted on the universally known remote-controlled "CAN CARs". They need some adjustments and painting that both I can make manually on my examples.

I can modify the model on Shapeways and make them available BUT I need orders to do so. If you terribly want one, they cost approx. 24 USD (+ VAT depending of the country) each, just send me a private messsage.

  • 2 weeks later...

Like it, and I have some of those can remote cars. I'll make my decals, paint mine up, and control it around the house. Glad to see you did that. I did find display cars of the same model that are in 1/60 scale, but need to be repainted. They look like this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Lancia-Delta-Integrale-16V-Rallye-Monte-Carlo-1992-IXO-Altaya-1-43-/321863173275?hash=item4af08a449b I have a couple of these as well. One in red, the other in this color linked. I'll get this head piece too, once I have the money for it. Thanks.

Have you really found the lancia in 1/60? I was looking for it for a long time before deciding to go the custom way. If you find a link where I can get one I would love it

Sorry, my bad. They're 1/64 scale. They're only 4 hundredths off, so it's almost irrelevant with something that size. Nevertheless, if you put those up for sale, I'd like to get one for certain (in FUD if you make that available).

Posting a few pictures of the new parts, they are perfect! Now the head is tight in close position and it's stays also tightly semi open.

You can go on shapeways and grab the 9 parts that compose it there: https://www.shapeways.com/shops/xigfrid3dshop?section=Bird-Human+Head&sort=

All the parts are articulated around an axis that goes between the head's ears, the assembly is really basic and you will need very little sanding because the exterior texture should be rough. I gave a special treat to the head, just use a cutter and chip off the supplement of plastic if you want a smooth skin as mine.

There is no stand adapter for it as it would best be in the VF-0D/SV-51 CF arms or simply lying semi open on the ground.

If you have any question about the assembly or transformation just leave me a PM, I would be happy to answer them. And if the head has a great "selling" success, I can also make a quick manual in PDF for it.

Here is the Ozma car model. I have modified it to include most of the adjustments I made on the first version. There should be some plastic that would have to be cut out around the front gears to perfectly acoomodate the rotating wheels.
