The New and Improved "What's it worth???" Thread!!

Recommended Posts

Well...maybe not improved....but it is new since the old one vanished like the SDF-1's fold system!

List your inquiries on value here!

Or......

An easy way to get an idea of current market prices for almost any Macross (or other Japanese) collectible....

1) Start with the YJA closed auctions search:

https://auctions.yahoo.co.jp/closedsearch/closedsearch?p=yf-21&aq=-1&oq=&ei=UTF-8&slider=0&auccat=0

2) In the search field enter what you are looking for....you may need to find out the Japanese words for some things...but for most Macross valks just use something like "1/55 VF-1J"...or get fancier by adding "マクロス"...the more specific you get, the more filtered the results....add words such as Bandai バンダイ, Takatoku タカトク, or Yamato やまと for searching specific brands....

3) Go through the results and select at least a month or two of past sales/closed auctions.....note the final auction sale amount, add them up and divide that number by the number you are using for your sample......that will give you the average final auction value

4) Add about 10% to the final auction value average for proxy fees and local shipping....then add an amount based on the item for international shipping fee to your door...this will get you the price anyone looking for your item can expect to pay "on average" for the item if they were to buy it themselves directly from Japan via YJA......

****note that this price is usually lower than what you would pay at a shop like Mandarake....the reason is because Mandarake needs to make a profit so they low-ball what they pay customers bringing in their collectibles for sale....basically just like a pawn shop does....so Mandarake prices are not really reflective of true open market prices........with that said, if you paid MSRP or less for an item, then selling it at "Mandarake prices" will most of the time mean you will end up selling for much more than what you originally paid for the item***

Other things to consider are the actual condition of the item, box, status of accessories, original paperwork and decals, and anything else that originally may have been included with the item you are trying to determine value.

In my experience, missing or damaged boxes take away up to 30% or more of the "average value".  Missing accessories and anything else can remove about 10% for each item missing.  Anything broken will remove 30-50% or more depending on how badly or how important the broken part is to the overall functionality of the collectible.  There are so many other factors also involved that will ultimately determine the value of your item.  It will ultimately go down to how much you are willing to "let it go" for and how much your buyer is willing to splurge on it.

In short, if you can determine the "average" value of your item, you will be better equipped to make a deal that will be fair to both you and your buyer and sell quickly.

Good Luck!

It's been a LONG time since I've been on this forum. My son used to collect growing up but now he's in college, his interests are changing. He's looking to sell some stuff to help fund both his textbooks and his other collecting passion, ice hockey. Since it's been so long I thought I'd run his pricing past the pros since he'd like to get the most for his stuff:

Masterpiece Max and Miriyia - Never been taken out of the box - Based on *bay with a high BIN price ~$500 for the pair

Non-macross:

Gundam Deluxe Transforming GP02A, never taken out of box $80

Gundam Arch Enemy RX-72 never taken out of box $60

Gundam arch EnEMY GAT X-106 Aile Strike never taken out of box $60

Zoids Gustav Hasbro Model, never taken out of box $50

Too high? Too Low? TIA

You need to look at "sold" auctions on ebay....

http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_odkw=toynami+masterpiece+robotech&_from=R40%7CR40%7CR40&LH_Complete=1&LH_Sold=1&_osacat=0&_from=R40&_trksid=p2045573.m570.l1313.TR0.TRC0.H0.Xtoynami+masterpiece+robotech+VF-1.TRS1&_nkw=toynami+masterpiece+robotech+VF-1&_sacat=0

With that said...the value of the Toynami Max and Mirya Masterpiece VF-1J's is closer to $100-150 each...and you'd probably get more selling them separately rather than as a set....

Thanks JV,

My son priced things out. I was wondering about the "sold" listings because it only goes back so far. Does the market fluctuate seasonly or is it pretty steady? I would imagine they might go up a small amount in the Fall before the holidays but wasn't sure.

Thanks for your reply, really appreciate it.

No problem!

I would say yes...there probably is a little fluctuation during the holidays, mainly Christmas time for toys/collectibles, as people seem to be willing to pay a bit more when they are purchasing something as a "gift"....Also, if there is no other competing listing, this tends to bump final auction values up a bit....

Good luck!

Looking for prices on Bandai Renewal Valks and armor. Thinking about selling as they only sit in my closet unappreciated, which is a crime IMO.

Opened

1 x VF-25F Alto

1 x VF-25G Michel

1 x VF-29 Isamu

NIB

1 x VF-25A CF

1 x RVF-25R Luca

1 x VF-171 CF

I also have all the armor parts for each valk NIB as well. I am thinking about keeping the Alto. I have seen a bunch of for sale posts, but everything sold and no prices are left on the postings. jum

What would a Yamato 1/60 YF 21 be worth?

Tough times. Maybe some heads needs to roll.

Yamato VF-1S TV ver. Roy pilot + TV super packs from Hikaru Super. No box for TV packs, VF-1S box has a pretty nasty cut in the back but nothing damaged. Stickers untouched.

How much?

VF-1S TV....no option parts?.....I would say between $125-200 USD subtract 15-20% for box damage....the TV super parts.....$150-200....prices not including shipping and fees....

MIB complete about $350-400 USD.........yours is essentially an "incomplete" sample.....the biggest problem is going to be finding a buyer who doesn't mind the missing part, which is fairly noticeable...I'd say list it with a 10-15% discount and an "OBO".....or sweeten the deal by bundling it with a stand or something similar?

Yes, no option parts. This is the first release.

$150-200 for the parts without box?

Sorry, price would be MIB with box....no box usually deducts about 30-50% for all toys.....but this is a hard to find item and also, most buyers would use them instead of keeping them in the box....so they are an accessory not a stand-alone toy/collectible....I'd say start with 20% off and offer a best offer on auction or price with OBO on a for sale listing....

Good luck!

1st release with stand and armor would be how much?

Add around 10% to final price and around $40 for shipping....should give you a good idea of market value outside of Japan...

super awesome link, bookmarked!

So basically....just use the same link and average out the sales for your version....add around 10% for proxy fees and 30-40 for shipping....that would give you a good estimate of price outside of Japan....

Tangentially Macross-related, but I have a bunch of the old Palladium Robotech & Macross II RPG books I would like to offload to a fellow fan rather than trash, is that something anyone still has interest in? Maybe for the artwork?

Yamato 1/60 VF-1A Kakizaki v2 TV version without Box.........................100-150 usd

You lose around 30% of the market value without boxes...assuming you have all other accessories, decals, and instructions....you should still be able to sell them all....prices do not include shipping and paypal fees

I'm thinking of selling a large portion of my collection. And any ideas on value or what I could get for this stuff would be great. Everything has been in my Detolfs, so everything has been removed carefully from the boxes.

Yamato SDF-1, displayed, box in excellent condition.

Yamato 1/60 YF-19, the one without armor. The box isn't in great condition and it suffers from the chest sliding off from the legs section

1/60 YF-21, the one without the armor. Box is in good condition.

Fold booster and armor set for the 19/21. Box is in good condition.

1/48 Max and Miria Super sets. I bought them used off ebay and the seller said "mint" condition. Max is missing the box and the leg section is cracked pretty bad behind the intake. Miria has two stress cracks near the wings which has left the red plastic with a few white marks. Miria has the box, and I am assuming she has all the accessories, Max is doubtful.

Unfortunately I am not on the straight shooters list and I have only purchased things from two sellers here. However, I am not on the blacklist!

Okay, I have a Yamato: SV-51Alpha, YF-19 Bird of Prey. Bandai: VF-25F Alto DX. None of these have boxes, the VF-22S does not have gun pods or stand attachment pieces, just the toy, the others have appropriate accessories. Some have been panel lined by me.

Issues:

SV-51Alpha- half panel lined with Gundam marker, RT canard bent from trip to floor, main gear wheels glued to post(they kept falling off)

VF-22S Sturmvogel II- SOLD

So, what would be a reasonable price to ask for whole kit and kaboodle? Please let me know what you think. Would like to get rid of all together.

Yikes! no certainly not! I have seen these go for less than half those asking prices and in brand new sealed condition. These items are only "A" listing which still is good but not MISB.

Jungle being a little cheeky me thinks!
