Hi-Metal R

Every couple years I like to have fun with a review.

Lol, I was expecting the boobs, but not the script haha. Did you work on that together? Hope she had fun making that review with you. But in all seriousness though, your wife does a very good job talking in the review. Her voice is clear and well-modulated. Very easy to understand and of course, grabs your attention from start to finish. Good job!

I am actually getting 1/110. Here is a pic with my 1/72nd scale body. My 72nd scale kit has a body length of 13 inches. The Hi Metal 8.5 inches. When you convert 13 inches in 72nd scale to 8.5 inches it converts to 1/110 scale.

I will say that my measurements to get 1/72nd when i was patterning the kit was to double the size of the old 1/144 Yellow sub kit. So who knows if that was right, there is a pic of the leg with a 1/72nd scale valk.

And one with a 1/60 valk just for comparison. If my kit was closer to 1/60 then the Hi Metal would be like 1/90 ish.

Are you using the 1/72 model for dimension references, or the original specs from the line art? I wouldn't use a different model as a reference for the dimensions of a fictitious machine... that 1/72 model might be off to begin with ;)

Is there any chance at all that I can find an Armored VF-1J for under $200 shipped? I really want one but can't justify paying more than double the retail price.

I managed to get a Regult (awesome) and Glaug (awesomer) and have the Monster on the way.

It seems that if you miss the preorders on these, you're priced out forever.

Both, my follow up post to this mentioned that i checked Macross Manual, but have no idea where they got their "over 41 meters" for the length

I mention in the post that i have no definitive #'s, just doing kind of a fun exercise in trying to figure it out.

When i made the pattern for the 1/72nd i used the 1/144 Yellow Sub kit as reference. I wound up with barrels to butt measurement of just over 22 inches. If you take the Macross Manual measurement of 41 meters give or take then 1/72nd should actually be just over 22 inches.

I think I measured the Hi Metal at like 15.5 inches with those barrels, so really like 1/104 if your getting super technical by what I figured,

Again, just a fun thought exercise more than anything else. The official numbers and the line art don't seem to line up all that precisely anyway.

you can check out the forsale section of the forum, there's 1 that was sold recently, you can also post 1 in the wanted section of the forum. (if you post a price you are willing to spend helps too)

Alright.

Just for perspective purposes, let's compare it to the other recent attempt:

What exactly is monster doing to Koenig? Step back dude.

So what scale would you say the Bandai 1/200 kit actually is?

Compared to the new Monster, it looks much smaller than 200 to me.

My wife appreciated your compliments. She told me she wanted to appear in another video around the time the Monster was confirmed. After she had acted as a background in the Makuroso video some of the comments were about it being sexist and unfair to use a girl just as a background so I figured she should have more of a role the next time around. Since the Monster is both simple and phallic it seemed like the ideal review to let her have some fun with it. Since I knew all the features in advance I did most the writing and she did some fine tuning and some ad-lib.

Man the feedback has been all over the map on that video. Some people definitely take their toys very seriously but it's my hobby and i get to have fun :p.

People aren't happy about the video?

Your wife is certainly a good sport.

My wife is awesome and always happy to hop in front of a camera. The comments section of the video is pretty humorous. Lots of people had fun with it so that's cool. Some people got very angry about it which is inexplicable to me since the thumbnail serves as a pretty decent warning. Someone who is clearly struggling with English keeps trying to leave a profanity-laced comment that essentially says that if he wanted to jerk-off he'd go to porn sites.. I think the humor was lost on him. Hey, over-the-top toys deserve an over-the-top review.

I'm loving this monster way too much. No picture can do justice to how awesome it is in hand.

I got into this line for the regult. Told myself that it would be nice to have one on my desk. Of course I had to add a glaug because the regult had to have a commander, right? But what good is a commander if he only has one trooper to command? So, added another regult. After getting a small squad ready for battle I then realized they needed someone to do battle with. VF added. One lonely VF against a Zentradi squad? That may work in the fantasy world of a tv show but not in real life, he needs back up. Enter the monster.

So here I sit, having gone from a nice item to display on my desk to a desk covered more with Macross than with work. I don't regret it one bit. I just need a bigger desk.

LMAO, it is a great review!!! Some of the youtube comments are retarded but yeah it's the internet and everyone is entitled to his/her opinion.

Caught the attention of my wife as she was just passing by and asked what the h... I was watching???

She also thinks the review is great and she now knows the next toy that will invade our house!!!

Whoa whoa trooper, Invid are the Robotech or Mospeada license territory and Bandai doesn't go there. Also, if they stayed in scale at 1/90ish the Invid would be bite sized. I'm afraid Hi-Metal R toys are Macross only and as of right now, just the first arch of Macross.
