So I can get the GBP VF-IJ priced for Y12700 at a local store tomorrow. I'm very torn, so i'm asking you guys for advice:

1) Is this figure more of a toy than an expensive model? Meaning, is it fun to play with? That's kind of what i'm looking for.

2) Is the transformation relatively simple and easy compared to the 1/60's and 1/48's?

3) Is the partsforming a pain or relatively painless? The add-on landing gear instinctively bugs me, but i'm wondering how much of an issue it would be.

Overall, do you find that it's worth the price?

Depending on how you plan to configure your toy, what you have to partsform differs. If you're planning on fitting the GBP, then obviously you'll be playing with a lot of parts. In terms of just plain jane fighter to battroid transformation, it has perhaps the easiest transformation since the old Takatoku. Yes, you do have to swap the canopy/heatshield, landing gears, and maybe the hands (depending on whether or not you use the landing gears or the optional hands). The canopy/heatshield swap may be difficult initially but I never had a problem. Swapping the landing gears is painless (certainly easier than trying to pull out the gears from my 1/60 VF-11).

How do you play with your toys? Do you open and close the landing gear a lot? Do you transform them frequently? Do you own a Tamashii stand? The HMR toys are sturdy but if you don't like having parts handy and love to cycle through modes you may be less than thrilled.

As much as I want to jump on this, something tells me at least a few will be available around release time from HLJ and considering I have a few preorders with them already, I think I'll risk waiting so I can save a bit on shipping.

CD Japan, while a great price (really, it's surprisingly good) is still $90 shipped. And they don't do any form of SAL to Australia, unfortunately. EMS and Registered airmail are the only options for us here. And there's only about $7 between the two ($23 or $29ish depending on Airmail or EMS).

I can't believe it's still up and available. Good price, too. I wonder if CDJapan got their hands on a whole buncha stock? Good news for us, at any rate. I was starting to think I'd never get my hands on a Regult, let alone a pair. :)

They're offering Registered SAL as a shipping option (1310 Yen); even with PayPal conversion fee, CDJ's price can't be beat. I put an order in for one, with a 100 Yen discount I had, my total came to 6990 Yen = 59.18 USD.

I meant that it wouldn't make sense for me to ship just one, when I can combine the 3rd I have on HLH with other stuff to spread out the shipping cost.

Does anyone know the actual release date for these things?

Hrm. Now I gotta get me a Hikaru VF-1J TV version. I wonder if there's any chance it'll be released on it's own. I kinda don't need the GBP armor.

Regult will be released on Feb 27 as per Tamashii page.

And they are still available at amiami, I can't believe it! I waited for so long to order 2 more regults and p/o was closed everywhere, I hope they don't cancel pre-orders later.

Now let's wait for pre-ordering a Regult scout, this robot is macross porn to me, hehehehe.

Is a re-issue scheduled for release?

No reissue is scheduled but it's worth noting that Bandai considers the first release the "DYRL" version of a VF-1J with GBP. A "TV Version" of essentially the exact same toy was one of the HMR releases people could vote for in the fan choice. I suspect if a straight reissue doesn't happen then a "TV version" will.

It would be nice to have the slightly different TV Version colors for once.

I need Hikaru's TV VF-1J so I can recreate the opening credits battle scene with the Regults and also his later battle against Kamjin's Glaug.

Eventually, I'd like to have these on my shelf:

Roy VF-1S TV

Hikaru VF-1D

Hikaru VF-1J TV

Max VF-1A TV

Kakizaki VF-1A TV

Max/Millia VF-1Js

Destroids (all)

Glaug

Regult x 2

Queadluun Rau

I'm so happy that we're finally getting enemy mecha that aren't model kits! Took frickin' long enough. Sheesh. I was hoping that Yamato/Arcadia would eventually check off that list, but oh well. I'll keep the Yamatos that I have, but I think I'm done with them, unfortunately. Too costly and it doesn't look like we'll ever get all of the ones we want.
