Also, legs and arms and fins etc...are blue and white, so whichever plastic color they choose, these parts will have to be painted, or am I missing something?

Yes, on the original release they had to paint on one of the colors as well.  They did this on the Max and Milia VF-1J's.  That's why I'am asking specifically what he means by "paint" because the original release already was painted as well.

Instead of correcting the color of the plastic and releasing a revised version at the same price as the original, they decided to just paint over the issue, call it a premium feature, and charge almost twice as much for adding lipstick to the pig.

They're basically charging you extra to cover up their own mistake.

The big question in my mind is whether this is still the original blue color, or whether they're both changing the plastic, and spraying over the whole thing to lighten it.  I will honestly be very curious to see if it turns out these premium versions are a new factory run, or if they just added paint to the original leftover stock with all the hip issues.

It was posited  when the original was released that Arcadia went with a 'factory' blue and that the toy would look correct with 'salt weathering'. If it's the original blue from the first release, this is exactly what we're getting. I've always been in the camp that they just over-saturated the blue but if the light weathering gets it closer, great. A regular release in a de-saturated blue would also be welcome but seems unlikely..

How does he know they're doing this?

After looking at the images, it might be a top-coat shifting the color rather than actual paint.

A matte top-coat will change the way plastic looks quite a lot.

Also, has anyone seen confirmation that it is the same shade of blue underneath everything?

As a person who spends a lot of free time detailing his valkyries, even I'm not that obsessed over the shade of blue used. :p

I don't hear anyone bitching about the DX 1A having an oversaturated blue, which it does (but again doesn't bother me).

They want to hate Arcadia so they’ll nitpick one and not the other.

It does, but it's not 1/10 as oversaturated as the 0D is.  "Slightly oversaturated" vs "a completely different color".

Plus, either way, the 1A is still "Max blue" or thereabouts.   But the original 0D, isn't "Shin blue"---it's "Max blue".   It actually makes it look like "someone else's valk" because it's so wrong, that it's actually now the color for a different scheme.

It'd be like if someone took an Ozma valk, but made the grey so light, that it was DYRL grey---then you've got Roy's scheme, and not Ozma's.   You can only "get it so wrong" before it actually becomes "right for somebody else".

We really won't know that until someone transforms theirs, and scrapes off the weathering. :p

Really, for me, this comes down to "I don't want a weathered one, I just want it the right colors."  Same exact issue I have with the FB2012 VF-4.  I admit, I'm an oddball about this, but I just flat out do not want a weathered edition.  I would honestly be willing to just plunk down the asking price for the weathered editions if I could get them in the standard PF format,.

Arcadia just doesn't seem interested in offering that, and I'm not going to buy a weathered one just to ruin the value by cleaning it off myself, so in the end, it's just money saved for me.

So a couple of weeks back, I showed the weathered SV-51 I had commissioned. Not too long after, I decided to have the same person do the same for my VF-0D. Here are some in progress pics, although it's pretty much done already.

What do you guys think? I think it looks pretty good :)received_2872863392748320.thumb.jpeg.0f0a119045637d42a0e564d486f2d94f.jpegreceived_472060010090229.thumb.jpeg.01fe19181d3765d4c82eff2ed8641b5a.jpegreceived_1505781652895669.thumb.jpeg.fb77dfa92de9fa7fa1553389a53ff48b.jpegreceived_2635908796470310.thumb.jpeg.0c2903b45b228b81ed7de1304a84b7d7.jpegreceived_515341035724122.thumb.jpeg.0e48b9d587fddc49b0b2c78c2ef276f6.jpegreceived_2904264919586220.thumb.jpeg.8ff134e029ac8f6ff69f3bcd419b970d.jpeg

The blue areas look really nice....but, IMO, the white/light grey under surfaces weathering is too dark.  Just my opinion.

Possible. He keeps telling me it looks much lighter in person. Well I will find out tomorrow once I get it.

Looks really good. Maybe a tad dark on the lighter areas but that is really personal preference and how much action that bird has seen;)

So that's the base blue of the original 0D but weathered?

Finally got it yesterday. Here are some additional pictures in natural lighting. Stickers haven't been applied yet, but will probably have that done next week.

Well, I guess your customizer friend just proved that the 0D was actually the correct color prior to any weathering.

ArchiNov,

So the color was correct all along. It just needed to be properly weathered to achieve what we always saw in the anime.

Could you get a shot of the VF-0D and the SV-51y together.

Congrats to you and your customizer.

Job well done!

Archienov-

Awesome paint scheme. Just wondering, if you are having it commissioned already, why not just have the paint scheme changed as well?

Well, I can't really say for sure. All I know is, he really tried to match the color with how it looked like in the anime. I don't know exactly how he did it. But all I can tell for sure is his work looks closer to the color in the anime than the upcoming premium finish version does.

I'll try to get that picture done sometime next week. I had him do a little more retouching to the SV-51 to even out the scratch marks.

Change to what paint scheme? I already like the current one, but I just wanted it to look closer to the anime and weathered.

Archienov-

Your VF-0D is spot on to me. Ssimply amazing. B))

From what I remember, the quality of work is right up there with the custom weathered 0D that @wm cheng completed all those years ago when the 0D was first released. Bravo to you and your local commission contact. It's a very smart look and unique. Not having to pay Arcadia's PF tax is a sweet bonus too.

Ah, I found the link! Here's the result of wm cheng's 0D weathering project in case people need a refresh or just want to compare the two projects out of curiosity.

Oh-ish.  NY is asking for payment for the VF-0D by December 2nd.  I guess no two weeks prior like it's always been?

When are they due for release?

The release date is at the end of December 2019. Did they speed up the release date? I swear it was releasing around first quarter of 2020.

I was also surprised by the payment request from NY.
