Announcing the 2014 Jerseyfest Model Kit & Statue Fair !

Recommended Posts

Hi guys:

The 2014 Jerseyfest Model Kit & Statue Fair will be held from August 1st to the 3rd in 2014 at the Marriott Hanover Hotel in Whippany, New Jersey.

We sold out of vendor tables at our last show with over 115, and are expecting a significant increase in vendors and attendees at the 2014 show. The success and growth spurt from our last show has allowed us to upgrade to a four star rated Marriott hotel in a great location, not far from Newark Airport. See hotel pictures by clicking here: Marriott Hanover Hotel ? Home of Jerseyfest 2014 » JerseyFestFair

Once again we are putting on a big show that will appeal to a diverse audience of modelers and collectors who are into vehicles, figures, mecha, props, etc. and various scales from miniatures to life-sized. And of course the show will have a huge amount of hobby supplies and materials of all kinds. Our model contest will once again be spectacular with phenomenal trophies and prizes. In the coming months, we will be announcing our special guest artists and information about presentations occurring during the vendor show on Saturday and Sunday. We also have some new activities and surprises for this year that we are not ready to announce yet - so stay tuned!

The show will once again kick off with “Jerseyfest Academy” all day classes on the Friday before the vendor show (i.e., August 1st). They will be mostly “hands on” classes featuring instruction by elite artists on painting, sculpting and constructing vehicle and figure model kits. Two of the classes are Sci-Fi ships related. See the latest info on the Academy here: Jerseyfest Academy Hobby Classes & Workshops » JerseyFestFair

We have a talented team working together to make the 2014 show extra special. Many people from all over the USA and international locations will be attending. The kits and presentations combined with the overall social experience all day and night will make for a great weekend of complete hobby bliss. Much more info to come folks !

Here is a "show report" summary of our last show with pictures: http://jerseyfestfair.com/?page_id=2949

Hope to see you at the big show !

Collectors from all over the USA commission Boyd to create incredible and accurate recreations of classic spaceships from television and film. He has also done many instructional videos and tutorials explaining several advanced techniques.

Hey guys:

Jerseyfest offers a full weekend long experience for all attendees, which means our program has numerous post show, night time activities and parties. To kick it off, the Stan Winston School of Arts will be doing a monster model painting class via a "webinar" on the Friday night before the Jerseyfest 2014 vendor show on August 1st, from 7:00pm to 10:00pm. The artist and subject to be used for the class to be announced.

Many advanced techniques and secrets that have been used by their artists for motion pictures will be covered. The class will be broadcast live on a big screen in a training conference room at the Marriott Hanover Hotel, which is the hotel where the vendor show is occurring. It will be interactive so the students and Stan Winston instructor can communicate via audio and video throughout the 3 hour long class.

Students will be able to sit back and watch the artist do various demonstrations while asking questions. Note that this is not a "hands on" class. Admission price is $15.00 per person and seats are limited, so we encourage people to sign up as soon as possible to secure a spot.

Hey guys:

Registrations have begun for the "Scratch Building Vehicle & Mechs Models" class at Jerseyfest Academy.

This professional, "hands on" sculpting class will be conducted in a separate classroom at the Marriott Hanover Hotel on Friday, August 1st, 2014, from 9:00AM to 4:00PM. The event is being held right before the weekend long vendor show. Mike Salzo will be the instructor, who is a super talented and experienced model maker in the garage kit hobby. He has created incredible mechs and studio scale models of spaceships from franchises like Star Wars, Battlestar Galactica, etc. Pictured below is one of his stunning, large scale, scratch built models.

Hope to see a couple of MWorld guys at Jerseyfest, it was a blast last year.

For this class i will be doing some hands on scratchbuilding, either a 1/10 inbit or a 1/48 catseye plane, not sure which, but hoping either subject will be appealing to people here....

thanks

Hey guys:

Registrations have begun for the new Moebius Models "Advanced Weathering & Painting of Vehicle Models" class at the 2014 Jerseyfest Academy.

This all day, “hands on” class will cover various advanced techniques for painting and weathering a vehicle model, with the subject being a Moebius Models Viper Mk 2 Model Kit from Battlestar Galactica. However, the methods to be learned will apply to any vehicle or mechs model. The class is designed to appeal to all levels of hobbyists (pro, novice or beginner). It will be held from 9:30AM to 4:00PM at the Hanover Marriott Hotel on Friday, August 1st, 2014, which is the day before the weekend long vendor show. It will focus on “unique techniques” for hand painting with acrylic paints thinned with lacquer thinner and weathering techniques using enamel washes and stains.

Each attendee will receive a fully prepared, built and primed Moebius Viper Mk 2 Model Kit to paint during the class and take home with them. They also will receive all the paints and supplies needed to paint the Viper during the class.

The class instructor will be Kevin Derken, who is one of the greatest Maschinen Krieger (Ma.K) painters in the world. Kevin is a classically trained artist turned model maker and painter. His unique style has been published in Hobby Japan and Model Graphix and has graced the cover of “The Weathering Magazine”. Kevin shows his work at fine art galleries and has won multiple awards at model shows around the world, including winning the “KOW YOKOYAMA AWARD” (Best in Show – judged by Kow himself) at the Maschinen Krieger Showcase 9 in Tokyo, Japan in November of 2013. His blog A1-plastik.com is updated with his work almost daily.

Attendees must register for this class in advance and seats are limited.

Hey guys:

We just added Film FX legend “Phil Tippett” to our guest line up and we could not be more thrilled! He will be with "Chronicle Collectibles", a new vendor at our show displaying and selling elite model collectibles in limited quantities that they worked on with Phil and other artists. Phil is also doing a talk during the vendor show - see full schedule here: http://jerseyfestfair.com/?page_id=64

Phil’s varied career in visual effects has spanned more than 30 years and includes 2 Academy Awards, 6 Academy Award nominations, 1 BAFTA, 4 BAFTA nominations, 2 Emmys and the advent of modern digital effects in motion pictures. Phil’s roots in stop motion, modeling and practical effects and his ability to use this foundation in conjunction with developing technologies has made him one of a handful of artists whose careers have spanned the transition of visual effects from largely practical to digital.

Phil's past work includes the Star Wars Trilogy with ”Industrial Light & Magic Studios” (e.g., Imperial Walkers, Tauntauns, Rancor, Jabba the Hut, , etc.), Jurassic Park, the new Jurassic World movie, Dragonslayer, Robocop, Starship Troopers, etc.

See more of Phil’s biography here: http://jerseyfestfair.com/?page_id=435

Thanks,
Dave

The partying continues on Saturday night (Aug. 2nd) at Jerseyfest with the “Figure Models Show & Tell Party” and “Sci-Fi Vehicles & Mechs Show & Tell Party” (includes “Hardware Kitbasher’s Swap Meet”). Both will be held in separate conference rooms at the Marriott Hanover Hotel from 8:30pm to 11:00pm at no extra cost to vendor show attendees. Hobbyists will bring and talk about pieces they worked on in a laid back, informal setting with snacks and drinks. Then we all work our way over to the incredible “Auld Shebeen” Irish Pub on hotel property. We don’t have “cliques” at these parties – all show attendees are invited. And you just might be hanging out with movie FX legends…don’t miss it !
