Despite the recent passing of Tom Clancy, his legacy lives on in the big screen. Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit is a reboot of Clancy's Jack Ryan series, with Chris Pine (James T. Kirk in the current Star Trek series) becoming the fourth actor to portray the title character. Also starring are Keira Knightley, Kevin Costner and Kenneth Branagh (Thor), who directs this film.

Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit premieres this Christmas.

Just got back from watching this film. Sure, it's obviously tailored for the current generation of moviegoers, as it sacrifices much of Tom Clancy's style of suspense in favor of fast-paced action. Also, Keira Knightley's American accent is somehow not convincing, and it seems like Chris Pine is being typecast as the rookie who always gets his ass kicked. Plus, the final act feels too much like Die Hard with a Vengeance. Nevertheless, Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit is an entertaining watch - nowhere near the same level as The Hunt for Red October, Patriot Games, and Clear and Present Danger, but it makes you forget that The Sum of All Fears exists.

Agree, agree, agree and agree.

I was kind of hoping that they'd somehow throw in an Easter Egg that alluded to a character or circumstance related to The Hunt for Red October (whether this would be a future or past event) but I didn't see one.

This could have also easily been a Netflix rental or wait for cable viewing, but on a slow Tuesday evening it was a nice diversion.
