The King has returned

I recently recieved a box of resin bits. Kind of a grab box of sorts. After sorting through the parts i found there are 2 complete 1/100 VB6 Konig Monster kits in it. Apparently they are meant to be variable models. I am not a fan of variable kits HOWEVER i will be making both of them. One as a Gerwalk /monster and the other in the more rarely seen battroid. So keep an eye out this will be a slowish and kind of long build. The instructions i could get arent that clear. Fortunately there was a partially assembled 3rd one in the box but there arent enough parts to complete it or id have the thing in all 3 modes.

WOW!!!Where did you get that!!! That is awesome!!! I guess you could copy the missing parts on the third from the others and have all the modes in display....I´ll be following this....

P/S: What else was in that magic box??

Foot subassemblies are coming together. Im holding off on teh toes and side flaps until i get more of the monster together. Then i can adjust to fit a more dynamic pose. Some slight heating of resin is due for some parts as they dont quite fit the top of the foot. I also have the gun barrels mounted to their base.

Great find! Why don't you go with brass rods for the gun barrels, then there's no worry about warping over time. You could even double layer the opening end with a slightly smaller barrel and spacers to give it some detail and thickness.

And here I thought you where going to bash it with a Koenigs Krote for the ultimate in koenigs!

Lots of file work and cleanup on these parts. Alot of clamping due to shoddy hobby lobby super glue and i have gotten the gun clamshell assembled. The barrel assembly is not glued in yet as there id detail painting that will be needed in there. Since i am making this one NON variable i am also fixing certain things to make the model cleaner. Removing un needed clamp and clip bits and filling in the screw attachment holes. SO far though it looks like this will be impressive in size though. The gun parts measure about 10 and 1/2 inches together. Not bad for a 1/100 kit....Still tiny compared to the 1/72 HWR-00-MKII i have awaiting refurb.

I had been thinking of the one from Macross Frontier...However there are some major shape and detail differences , especially in the gun arms that will not allow the scheme to transfer over well. A Minmay Guard themed one could be possible. I just need to get the decals and figure out how to adjust the version of the paint scheme like on teh Valkyrie to it. This first one may just be done up "standard" like in VFX 2.

I did a little experiment on the hinge points today. I used styrene tube instead of screws to join the parts. The screws had led to a rather loose and floppy model from what i have seen. Using the styrene tube in the hinge areas requires me to drill out the holes and match the diameter more. I have tight friction fits in some of them now. Looks like the second build may be variable after all and without the ugly exposed nuts and screw heads. After the rod is instaslled a anime looking minus mold detail can be installed over or some other macross looking detail to cap it off and retain the rod/tube better!

NIce build, love the Koenig Monster. I remember along time ago when I first joined macrossworld there was someone trying to get enough people to start up a variable Koenig casting. Been too long to remember the details, but is this that project?

Things are looking a bit more monster like. As this kit is meant to be variable there are alot of hollow areas in it. Such as the area under the main guns. It is also difficult to see how things would really align. On the second one i aim to block off some of these open areas and see about making it resemble a static kit more. There really is no way to make it variable (transformable) The joints were not designed with any method of locking in place. I tried to see if i could get some areas moveable but no luck really. The feet will set better once its attached to a base and some slight heat applied to settle the model. So far though i am pretty happy with it. Could it be better...sure. But it wont be me who makes it better this time around.
As far as this being from some old project. I have no idea...I dont think i was a member then. Or if i was it was also when i first joined. I looked up said project and the casting does seem to be based on the same kit though.

Oh yeah, Idolmaster version!

Dude if you can get me some suitable decals id do it.

Back in 2004:

There was a effort to recast the Liquid Stone 1/100 kit of the VB6.  The Yamato 1/100 version is based on the same kit.  These parts look like the parts from that lost effort.
