Gubaba
I like most of this, but I'm sorry that Zambot 3, Ideon, and the J9 Trilogy didn't make the cut. http://cartoonresearch.com/index.php/the-real-giant-robots/
myk
What about Mazinger or Go-Lion? He's missed a few honorable mentions, at the very least...
Mommar
Right at the beginning of the article he says, "here are a few of my favorites." It's by no means meant to be exhaustive.

technoblue
LoL, really? But Gasaraki was a unique series, in its own way. Later on, RahXephon was released by Bones. It had a more fanstatic premise, but a similar music/sound theme. I thought it was pretty good too for a somber series. The article is a good read. I thought the author succeeded in pointing to the common robot archetypes in anime. Edited September 13, 2013 by technoblue
CoryHolmes
Gasaraki had hope, but strangled itself by trying to rip off of Evangelion too much. The mecha designs are fantastic, though.
Vifam7
Dai-guard is probably borderline as a "real robot" anime.
Gubaba
Myk, Mazinger and Go-Lion aren't "real robots."
technoblue
For a more modern take, I thought Robotics;Notes was a very enjoyable "real robots" series but I'm not sure if it was revolutionary.
