Quite a few of these eBay power seller types have multiple profiles that either drive up the bid or use the buy it now to get their numbers up. I don't have any faith in using eBay as a tool to determine market value.

Agreed, I think Mandarake is better yardstick.

Sites like mandarake have driven up their own prices because of auction prices though. I think yahoo auctions is a good gauge, but it doesn't include the cost of import. The truth is somewhere below most ebay prices and above most yahoo prices. Also...as I said before, the only valid results are sold prices. Listed prices mean very little.

That's unfortunate that I can not browse the english version of mandarake at work, the firewall consider the site as "Adult Content" :)

But I still have access to the Japanese version of the site, which does not help at all ...

To be fair...Mandarake has lower prices (sometimes) than auction because they screw individual sellers when they bring their stuff to sell....think pawn shop....the pawn shop is not going to pay you true market value (yes, auction value) for your items because they need to turn a profit on the stuff you are selling to them.....it is what it is....Auction sites are true market value...Yahoo Japan for Japan.....Ebay for the USA and the rest of the world (basically..Yahoo Japan price plus proxy fees and shipping...plus a bit of profit on top of that...sometimes high...sometimes low).....

Here is a list of what Mandarake pays for the MACROSS stuff they sell on their site:

http://mandarake.co.jp/information/buy/nkn/toy/series-yamato_macross.html

http://mandarake.co.jp/information/buy/nkn/toy/gokin-eva-macross.html

This is the link to the general page containing what they pay for just about everything else:

http://mandarake.co.jp/information/buy/index.html

And keep in mind...the prices are for MINT items...they will deduct for any slightest damage or missing parts, open, displayed...etc.....generally..it looks like they try to get at least 50% return on their purchases....

For example, what they pay for a mint Yamato SDF-1:

Complete Transformation SDF-1 Macross finished product version

40,000 yen

What they sold a MINT SDF-1: 80,000 JPY

They aren't screwing them, that's just the business.

you can't buy things for what you sell it for.

The upside is the seller gets cash right away, even if it's a 1/3 of the price.

Relax...I know that...just using the terminology of the "general" sentiment by some of the posters to this thread.....just because things are selling high right now does not make the sellers villians...it is what it is...

Also, you honed in on the most insignificant part of my post....the point I was trying to make is that Mandarake prices are not true market value...they are artificially lower due to what they pay for their incoming stock...

MY 1000th post....

cool stuff to know, i was wondering how their prices are, at times, really under market value.

thanks jvmacross

Didn't say they were villains, just noting that Mandarake has gotten into the game too.

I'm very relaxed. haha ^_^

Again, relax, the villian comment was not directed at you or any kind of direct quote...based on your statements I believe we are both in agreement that sold auctions are the closest indicator to market value at any given time...thus the whole point of this thread....just the facts....and individually decide on what to do with the data...

Getting tired of just posting Yamato valk sales....it is afterall the Macross "Collectibles" market watch.....

So, did anyone on here buy this book and joined the elite owners club?

Macross Dynamite 7 Establishment Materials List Art Book: $314!!!

http://www.ebay.com/...p2047675.l2557#

I guess it makes this one not seem so "absurd" anymore:

http://page9.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/k153033832

But, then there was this one recently also.....

http://page9.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/k166124899

Hopefully more of these books start coming out of the wood works so more fans can get their hands on it.....it's a nice one to own!

Generally, yes. However, posting prices without the supporting auction or sale does not really help.

I can easily say a VF-4G sold for $200, a Max & Miria for $350 and a 30th VF-1D for $200...but without the link to the auctions or a sale....it can be construed as trying to artificially promote a new lower market price that is not accurate. Any of these sales can actually have taken place, however, they are not currently the going rate for them on a consistent basis in the "open market". It is what it is.

This thread is just for posting of real sales data, you use it in whatever way you feel is best for your situation.

These were all private sales from members on this site. There were no auctions.

So this isn't a place for private sales just auctions or open market stores everyone has access to? I would think that private sales would be relevant information.

Deals found on MW cannot be consistently found on the "open market" like ebay, YJA, etc.....In short, how many people looking for Macross toys know about Macross World as opposed to the "normal" channels like auction sites...

I am not saying there is no place for private sales, but it would be difficult to capture and corroborate the actual prices being paid privately....it is like someone else mentioned before...there is the "market" price and then there is the "Macross World/Private sales" price....
