Hrmmm..... I still don't get it and I should leave it at that.

i don't get it at all, not one little damned bit.

time and again, i've seen character after character, classic and modern, Anime and otherwise, get "Ponyized"

hell, i've even seen it happen to my poor Mikuru-chan. :(

even worse than all of that; HARDCORE MLP PORN. yes, IT EXISTS...:wacko::unsure::(

I'm surprised you of all people don't get it. You seem like a prime candidate for joning the Pony side of the force.

No Keith, we understand some boys like girly stuff. We just can't relate.

I'm surprised other franchises don't do the same thing to try to make money off of grown men with classic little girl stuff from the 80's. I mean if it were made right would you bronies pick up stuff like care bears or strawberry shortcake, maybe cabbage patch? I am in my 30's now and I think I spend more on toys than I ever have before and at higher prices, so I don't see why it would not work on the bronies.

Honestly, is MLP cool to the bronies because of the shock value? When I first heard of bronies I was shocked and confused. :) I am currently not shocked anymore, but still very confused.

From what I've seen of the show (damn near half the first season, before I slapped myself in the face and washed it off by watching a few 80's action flicks), it's more or less K-ON! starring ponies instead of Japanese anime girls--light comedy with hints of moe.

Yep.

I like it because it's a generally well written slice of life comedy with a unique and attractive art style that collectively taps into childhood nostalgia. Not nostalgia for the 80's but nostalgia for late 90's/early 2000's cartoon network programing. A lot of the people behind MLP got their start doing things like Dexter's Lab, Powerpuff Girls, Samurai Jack, and Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends; Some of the greatest examples of western animation in the last 50 years.

MLP raises above it's pandering, 30 minute toy commercial roots and manages to be a strong, creator driven show that appeals to a broad audience through a combination of wit, creativity and sincerity that a lot of shows lack. It's a refreshing, unique show that's easy to watch, enjoy and feel good about when it's over.

I also like the fandom that it's managed to garner, The show has a unique ability to inspire creativity in people and I find that I enjoy the the fan-labors of the community as much if not more than than the show itself. The show also has this amazing ability to make the people who like it act ever so slightly less dickish to each other than usual on the internet, and that absolutely blows my mind. It's not a show for everyone but it makes me happy at a time in my life where not a lot of stuff can do that any more.

Also, ZOMG PRETTY COLORS!!!

Dexter's Lab, Powerpuff Girls, Samurai Jack, and Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends...

I think this is the main reason a lot of guys enjoy the new MLP. It has the same creative pedigree as these four fantastic shows. Myself, I have not given it a chance (already got too much on my plate) but from the clips I've seen on Youtube, I get why guys enjoy it. That's what I can relate to...wanting to see shows made by creators that worked on awesome stuff.

Really, the small association with "moe" and furries are the only thing that I dislike about it but it's not a major concern. Girly stuff?...too much pink and rainbows?...unless you're some ass-hole homophobe or mysogynist, who cares?...if it's written and animated well and entertaining that doesn't matter.

Have you ever seen the video of Jeff Wringer as Rainbow Brite? I don't know if that counts as doing it right, but I too was shocked and confused back then as well.

well, because i like my girly-girl shows with actual HUMAN girls. most preferably of the Anime variety.

all this BRONY business generally seems to be touted as some manner of logical next-step of evolution

for the modern american Anime OTAKU, and that is in fact a VERY scary thought, to me, anyway.

perhaps this is merely the net result of Moe taken to an illogical extreme, i don't really know.

i mean, i'm no Moe hater, -anything but- but i just tend to feel that perhaps too much Moe is not exactly the best thing.

after all, things really have been starting to head generally downhill with Anime over the last few years now, IMO, and then now this whole U.S. MLP phenomenon... :(

yeah, i hear there is much depth and character development in the series,

amongst many other generally rewarding factors.

still, i just don't find myself the least bit willing to expand my "Otaku frame of mind" enough

to connect with a simply-animated slice-of-life series revolving around muli-colored horsies with human intellect.

guess i'm just too damned old-school or something.

i remember when a carefully animated and realized Anime series

full of carefully animated and realized HUMAN/HUMANOID characters was the order of the day,

and i just don't seem to find myself wanting to join the 21st century on a wholesale level any day soon...

"We live in more of a pussy generation now, where everybody's become used to saying, "Well, how do we handle it psychologically?" In those days, you just punched the bully back and duked it out. Even if the guy was older and could push you around, at least you were respected for fighting back, and you'd be left alone from then on."

This "Brony" thing along with a nameless installment of Macross, are symbols of the weakening of society. Every child is encouraged to be a bitch and cry about their feelings. I find this movement sickening.

And yet you cry like a whiny little emo about the “pussification of todays kids” and “weakening of society” EEEEEEVERY time you can shoehorn that in. Right now you are just missing “crawling in my skin” as background music. Sheesh!

But if people actually talked about their feelings, but more importantly, also heard the feelings of others, maybe this rock would work a bit better. But don’t you and Clint worry, right now, people bottle that up all the time to be accepted and to follow empty consumer guidelines. And those that aren’t accepted get their “social” fix talking to faceless strangers in ever growing niche internet cultures that further them away from socializing in the real world. So I don’t see “pussies”. I wish.

What I do see is a society with an ever growing lack of communications skills folding on shallow entertainment and “like” buttons and the meme of the week and the fear of the week and…

I classify it as a ray of hope that so many guys find entertaining seeing cartoon ponies talking about their relations. Maybe in the future those kids and adults will do that more with other humans face to face instead of sitting in front of the screen with the usual orgy of things blowing up as a way to solve things.

We get it, guy on the internet. U R TUFF! We're really very impressed. ;)

Seriously, though, I originally came into this thread saying that not every forum needs one of these but a mod reopened the thread anyway. I'm keeping an open mind here and participating even though I'm not a fan so how about guys like you not thread-shi*t and ruin this for everyone else?

You haven't to take things A1 says with heavy grain of salt. Sometimes the only way he can openly discuss things he enjoy's is by pretending he hates them.

Gonna agree with that. The animation in MLP is pretty top-notch stuff and really is better than a lot of stuff coming out of Japan (I'm talking quality and technique here). I would expect nothing less from people who came over from shows like PPG and Foster's.

I talk about it, because it bothers me and this is a discussion-board, not a positive-comments-only-board. Keith is right though. Though I can't stand this pu55y kind of entertainment, I am still friends with everyone on this board I have met in person (probably 30+ of you).

I find the technical quality and execution of MLP's flash animation to be superior to a most anime, TBH.

most Anime of recent-to-current vintage, yeah, i'd be willing to believe that...

And discussion should be more than just dropping by and saying a vehement comment with no explanation and some loose random quote. Evidently that way of doing things will not get people to even consider what you say above a troll’s hate rant.

I'm really interested in this pussification of society theory you drop from time to time here and there, but you never actually develop it.

Personally I'm tired of violent little tyrant children running around in playgrounds when I go with my kid. I see lack of empathy and parents that don’t know how to establish even simple limits, but no pussies. And those parents sure are not the product of a childhood of M7 and ponies either, just people overcompensating with their best intentions for the over strict education they got as kids; so I don’t see them as the product of a pussified society either.

My little ponies is really big with the 20+ crowd, everywhere you go you find pony avatars these days, but I really don’t know if kids actually watch it as much. Here they favour those over competitive bethebestwhatever shows, so again, no “pussy” shows. And they sure as hell don’t talk about their feelings like them ponies do.

Have you read Macrossworld? Who in their right mind thinks this is a positive-comments-only-board?
