Jefuemon
Never seen this one before. It says its a 1/3000 scale. Looks a little too blocky, though. EDIT: Same kit, different pictures, lower price Edited May 8, 2012 by Jefuemon
MechTech
That's new to me. I DO want to get a big TV version. That one does look a bit off in shape and dimensions. Thanks for posting. - MT
505thAirborne
Its a good start for a 1/3000 TV SDF-1, but I agree with MT it looks off and needs some serious detailing and rail guns on the shoulders for starters.
Kicker773
I would just wait...I'm sure someone will eventually make one resin or toy.
Jefuemon
Found some new, better pictures of the kit. Made by a group called M.R.D.. I'd be a lot happier with it if it wasn't so angular. To my eye it's just too jagged and blocky.
electric indigo
They have some cool kits in their production line. Check out the Garland. http://mrd-3d.com/mp_a.html http://mrd-3d.com/anime/garand.html

Mommar
I don't have a problem with the raised portions along the surface but the basic shape/proportion of the cruiser is completely/ridiculously wrong.
Valkyrie
Yea, the whole thing just looks really stretched out... They've done some great stuff in the past tho! I really want their Gunbuster ships!
Wasabi-san
Has anyone ever thought of, or taken a Matchbox SDF-1 and modified the proportions, to maybe make it into a resin kit? Is it close to 1:3000 scale? I have only seen/have the resin kits of the DYRL version in Cruiser and Storm Attacker, and they're maybe 1:5000-ish. A proportional TV version would be nice. Kelsain
I have the ARII/IMAI 1/5000 cruiser and attacker kits. The attacker is just awful. I've been considering molding pieces like the legs and booms from the cruiser to make it look better. I do, however, have way too many things on my bench as it is, and little time to work there. So those projects are down the line some ways.
AcroRay
It looks a bit stylized. It reminds me of paintings of the Macross as seen on old 1980s Menko cards and Ohsato product packaging. Edited May 31, 2012 by AcroRay
Wasabi-san
@kelsain: I have both of the 1:5000 injection kits (original and Robotech labels), and you're right about the Storm Attacker version, very poor styling/molding. In the Super Plastic Model Manual No.1 ('85?), they show a Storm Attacker version with the carriers from the cruiser kits and other detail parts like the guns. It looks a lot better. I'd like to have an accurate 1:3000 TV version.
Kelsain
I'd like to have an accurate 1:3000 TV version. Yeah, that'd be awesome. I was just throwing that out there for conversation...
Jefuemon
Someone is auctioning off a painted version now.
Hikaru2
I think this looks like a more accurate model of the SDF-1.

jvmacross
Once painted, it does not look that bad. However, it made me think of (hopefully) an inevitable Yamato SDF-1 TV release.... If it were to be produced by Yamato....would you prefer it to be painted with the bright colors from the show...or the more subdued, yet similar colors as were used in the painted kit in that auction? Hmmmmmm........ ...and I wish one of our talented sculptors would make a 1/3000 scale Prometheus and Daedelus to connect to our DYRL SDF-1's (for a MtF version).......Yamato seems to be dragging their feet!
