What a dry season, hopefully, things will get more interesting by July. For this season, I am only watching Hamefura.

As a Magic 8 Ball might say... Outlook Not So Good.

Thanks to the pandemic shutdown, a lot of stuff got delayed... including some shows that were in active production being put on hiatus for the health and safety of the production staff.

This season's one cour shows are drawing to a close this week... and I have to admit, I won't miss most of them.

The 8th Son? That Can't Be Right! deserves special acknowledgement.  Not just because it's the most blatantly half-assed and lazily-written Isekai story I've ever seen... but also because its final episode seems to give even fewer f*cks about the story than the audience does.  The climactic confrontation between the protagonist and his evil oldest brother - an event that the entirely of the last two episodes was spent building up to - lasts a minute and ten seconds and consists of one thrown punch followed by immediate obliteration by holy magic.  It's over so fast there's literally 2/3 of the episode left when it's done.  If this were One Punch Man they'd make a joke out of how short the fight was, but this is played completely seriously and treated like a major accomplishment and the remainder of the episode is spent watching the King's court argue over his reward for it.  The ending reveals his grand plan for all that land he just inherited by killing the previous heir is to... make a miso and soy sauce factory.

If I didn't know better, I'd swear I had just been trolled.

I am hoping for better from Reincarnated into an Otome Game as a Villainess With Only Destruction Flags when its final episode hits Crunchyroll tomorrow.

After twelve years, I decided to go back and rewatch Macross Frontier. Only eight eps in, but every bit as enjoyable as I remember its being the first time.  Even more enjoyable now that I have internet fast enough to watch multiple eps back to back- couldn't do that back in '08. Anyway, it's rekindling my love for the VF-25, one of my favorite valks, not to mention the VB-6 getting some cool dynamic action.  Great music ( Kanno, May'n, and Meguni Nakajima are a musical trifecta of awesomeness), cool mecha, likeable characters, and an interesting narrative- pure Macross win.

I forgot how much fanservice was in this show. Sheesh.

I am on Ep7 of Hamefura..  and I must say this is better then I expected it to be.

I'm not gonna rave about it,  but it's kept my attention for 7 episodes.   If it keeps the same pace, I would consider this to be a success.

It's not anything revolutionary, but it's definitely a lighthearted breath of fresh air in a world otherwise inundated with bad news.

I watched Schwarzesmarken and it was pretty good.  Even though it was rather brutal.

That's kind of a halmark of the MuvLuv: Alternative franchise as a whole. Solid storytelling that is just plain brutal towards it's cast. It reminds me a bit of vintage Tomino Zeta and Victory Gundam.

I only found out about this series because I am a huge fripSide fan and they did the opening.  I plan now to watch MuvLuv.

Didn't know there were others in the MuvLuv series. Only knew of the Twilight Eclipse series. Which was enjoyable for a mecha harem series.

Just was a bit brutal at the beginning, but guessing that was establish why the ice queen was how she was.

Mecha designs are neat and it has the best uni-sex uniform I have ever seen.

Will have to look up the other one (adds to watchlist) to watch later.

So I am finally getting around to watching Sakura Wars The animation.    Or whatever they are calling this last installment.

I'm not sold on it,   I don't like the CGI, and they changed the character designer and things just feel off.     I am also willing to bet they blew most of their animation budget on a very Gundam like launch scene.

It's been some time since I have gone back over this title, so my memory is kinda sketchy but I hope this first episode isn't the Best episode.

Gave Eromanga-sensei a try, and it's actually turning out to be OK if a bit cliched... not as fanservice-y as the title made me think.

It does feel a tad suspiciously convenient that every light novel author seems to be a junior high or high school student though... where are all the adults?  Especially the guardians who would have to be present for these characters to be working as professional novelists and artists?

I bailed on this show after the 2nd episode.  I really wanted to like it.  On to the next show!

What is the primary appeal of Sakura Wars? I've tried to watch the anime (old and new) and I just seem to lose interest in the characters. The mecha were the main draw but I just can't continue watching an anime if I don't care for the characters.

I really don't know that much about it.  Maybe someone more knowledgeable about it will enlighten us.  Apparently the game when it first released was revolutionary for its time.  It combined many of the popular game type together.  It was part robot combat, dating sim, etc.  But that's about all I know about it.

Oh so that's why it had a boring MC guy and the ladies were blushing red...

Thanks. I'll just avoid that franchise from now.

So I just finished a rewatch of Kimetsu no Yaiba, was looking for some more recent fight-filled stuff. Is Re-Zero any good later? I tried to watch a  few eps but I get turned off by the repetition (redoing the day all over again). (Also found KonoSuba funny but not up for a rewatch of it.) If not I'll search my done anime for rewatch candidates.

If you want action stuff, maybe Enen no Shouboutai?

Theres a second season starting up in a few days, it's pretty solid Shounen Jump stuff with some dark metaplot.

If you prefer your fights to be more psychological, there's always Gleipnir, which is the best trash.

And then there's Tsugumomo, which is just on the safe side of porn, but with pretty damn good fights. The manga illustrations are downright amazing.

I am playing the Grisaia no Rakuen visual novel.  It makes me wonder why the anime only got 10 episodes.  The anime totally misses important things.

Spoiler

Amane and Yumiko new that Thanatos was Kazuki.  Way before they meet on the submarine. That is why Amane was so quick to trust Thanatos.

One of the members of my weekly Jojo's Bizarre Adventure watch party had to grab some shuteye early this week... so we ended up watching Ghost Stories.  The horrific ADV Films gag dub of Ghost Stories.  The original show was a mediocre exercise in standard Japanese ghost folklore, but dear sweet machine god the dub can only be the product of sampling all the pills in every voice actor's medicine cabinet simultaneously.

I one episode shy of finishing MS Gundam: Origins and I gotta say I've liked it so far.

I never felt much affinity for Gundam, having only watched the first MSG movie prior.

They seem to have come up with some very clever back stories to all sorts of little aspects of MSG '79.

It actually made me want to do a full watch of MSG '79 and then possibly finish out the rest of the Universal Century stuff.

I gotta say, pandemic self-isolation is great to going back and watching all the random things I've thought about watching over the years.

Mobile Suit Gundam: the Origin was a hard show to watch... the original series was dark, but Origin is darker still by a significant margin.  Like showing the Principality of Zeon capturing Island Iffish and starting preparations for Operation British even before they gassed the population... then showing the actual gassing of the population.

Isn't it just?  I'm running out of shows in my queue on crunchyroll.

Watching Mospeada for the first time.  I finished Ep 11 last night, and will likely watch a few eps today.  Very much a product of the 80's, and I'm enjoying it for what it is. I'm probably one of the few Americans who didn't see Robotech growing up, and when I did make an effort to watch it back in '03 or so (I was TDY in England, and I rented it from the BX), I quit watching after a couple eps of Southern Cross, another anime I've never seen. I remember feeling a bit disappointed in the flying bricks they rode around on after watching the Macross portion of RT. Seemed like a serious step down in the mechanical design department, and I just couldn't watch anymore. Had they tacked on Mospeada right after Macross, I probably would have kept watching, if only to see the Legioss in action.

Giving Himouto! Umaru-chan a whirl... it's not quite what the memes led me to expect from it.  I'm not sure why I was expecting something more like Lucky Star or one of the more pop culture reference-heavy 12 episode comedy series that've come out more recently.  Its content is exactly what it says on the tin... a series about a younger sister who's a himono-onna, a woman who's proper in public but slovenly at home.

It's occasionally funny, but most of the humor revolves around the titular character being an incredibly manipulative and selfish brat towards her doormat older brother.  It gets old real quick, and then it's just kind of annoying how toxic their relationship is.  There isn't even a reason given for it, she's just a naturally sh*tty person.

Oh, it was... but, to be honest, that show was one incredible dumpster fire from the earliest phases of its development clear through to its cancellation for low ratings.  It changed genres twice during development, from a creepy lolicon slice of life comedy series by an h-doujinshi artist to a reimagining of Japan's Sengoku period in a sci-fi context to being a tissue paper-thin effort to knock off Macross for a quick buck.  The designs were done quickly and on the cheap, by an in-house design group at Tatsunoko with an incredibly unflattering name.

That would probably have helped their ratings a bit, yeah.

MOSPEADA could've been a much better series if there hadn't been so much executive meddling focused on copycatting Macross.  It put the Legioss armo-fighter into too much prominence over the titular MOSPEADA.

Ok, saw Gleipner eps 1-2 but it seems a bit too violent for watching out in the open (family members passing by). I'll just save it for later. Which rules out Tsugumomo...

So I went old school and am watching Yu Yu Hakusho
