who cares? QUANTUM OF SOLACE sucked total @$$, so why shouldn't this one as well?

the early-2000s BOND films were the last half way decent ones, IMO...

The spy who loved me and from russia with love are the two best bond movies (for me anyways). In the new wave of bonds casino royale was pretty good, quantum of solice was forgettable. I assume the new movie will pick up where quantum left off, stopping the evil water bandits from.... what exactly were they doing with the water?

MOONRAKER was my very first, and remains one of my favorite BOND films.

i've seen most of them since, and i tend to feel that they're ALL good, in their own way.

that said, i tend to feel that CONNERY was the worst BOND of them all,

as he always seems to come off to me in his BOND films as a seriously chauvinistic SOB.

i know, i know, BOND is SUPPOSED to be a chauvinist, but at least MOORE did it with class.

hell, BROSNAN wasn't half bad at all, either, IMHO...

They were going to charge the people a Arm and a Leg for water this actually happened in the 1980's a foreign company/Corporation actually bought the water Rights to a entire South American country.

Why did they change the name to Quantum from SPECTER from the old Bond movies?

There's an ongoing legal dispute between EON Productions and the estate of Kevin McClory. Before the film series began, McClory and other writers collaborated with Ian Fleming on writing several drafts for possible film or TV adaptations of James Bond 007. One of these drafts was novelized by Fleming as Thunderball - without the other writers' permission or credit. Of course, this led to a long list of lawsuits. One case is that McClory supposedly created SPECTRE.

As a result of the legal issues, SPECTRE was renamed "OCTOPUS" in the PS2 game adaptation of From Russia with Love.

Since we talking about Bond I'd like to share a pic of one of my most treasured possesions, the Omega Seamaster 300m Chronometer, which was the official Bond timepiece of the Brosnan Bonds. I think Daniel Craig Bond went with the Seamaster Planet Ocean instead. It's an entry-level luxury watch. I got mine in 2005, as 1300.00 USD.

...

Wore that watch every day for 13 years. Just ebayed it. Replaced it with the new Bond watch:

For all everyone seems down on Quantum of Solace, I enjoyed it. I even think it's a cool title. I thought the characters were all developed well, the conflict was topical and relevant, loved the Tosca scene for some odd reason, enjoyed both the initial car chase and the climax in the hotel (although the convenient escape was anticlimactic). Then again, I always enjoyed the more subtle Bond films. From Russia With Love remains my all-time favourite.

QoS was retarded and so was Casino Royale to some degree. The director and cast aside from Daniel Craig and a new hot Bond girl don't make sense. This sounds more like a Merchant Ivory revival than a Bond film. They wasted Brosnan and now they're wasting Craig because they're both pretty good Bonds. Someone revive Albert Broccoli, at least his films were fun.

We'll have to agree to disagree on the first, ;) but Brosnan was definitely wasted. The stories went further down the Roger Moore path getting more and more ludicrous as time passed. The only good thing about the Brosnan stint, IMHO, was introducing Dame Dench as the new M. I think I enjoy her character more than Bernard Lee.

As long as they go back to the roots of Bond (that being: ultimately it's a fantasy), it should come out right.

The problem is that the preceding 2 movies have tried to emulate the Borne ID movies, and have essentially replaced fantasy with the Borne version of reality. CR worked (for me), because ultimately it's a character piece - and we got a lot of character development. Which is why I have high hopes for this new Bond - the director is (at least to me) perceived as a character director.

Time will tell - especially if the producers override the director's script/plot/characterization direction...

I'll throw my .2 in here,,,,I hold Casino Royal as my favorite Bond film of all time. I am 36, so I grew up with Roger Moore as Bond, my mom still thinks Sean Connery is the best..and I do like the old Connery Bonds for what they were. The early Moore Bonds were ok, and I still think Goldeneye was pretty darn good as well. I loved Brosnan as Bond, just not the ridiculous story lines they gave him in the subsequent movies after Goldeneye. Craig was something fresh and new in Casino Royal and I enjoyed the film immensely. Only watched COS once,,,,and I remember thinking what a HUGE letdown it was...maybe I need to give it another shot. I will definitely try to go see the new one in the theater.

As someone in similar circumstances and with similar feelings about the movies...

... no, Quantum of Solace doesn't improve on repeat viewings. Though, there is one advantage: you'll know when it's time to pay attention, and time to daydream.

Even though I "grew up" with Roger Moore as Bond too, for my money From Russia With Love, Goldfinger, and Thunderball are the iconic Bond films. They set the formula for all who followed. Dr. No was definitely draggy, and after Thunderball the Connery era started to decline along with Sean's interest, and the villanous plots got more and more ludicrous.

Odd Man Out #1: I neither hate nor love George Lazenby. Lackluster but not offensively awful or anything. On Her Majesty's Secret Service was an okay film. I'd put it above many Moore pics... but only just.

As for the Roger Moore era... I note three high points:

1. For Your Eyes Only

2. Jane Seymore as Solitaire in Live and Let Die

3. The Lotus from The Spy Who Loved Me

The rest I gladly leave behind.

Odd Man Out #2: Never Say Never Again is just plain awful. 'Nuff said.

Timothy Dalton was actually the first Bond I saw in the theatre. I enjoy his two films quite a bit, and after Moore, I really enjoyed the more serious Bond. The Living Daylights remains one of my favourite Bond films.

Pierce Brosnan showed a lot of promise in Goldeneye, but escalatingly stupid plotlines ruined his run IMHO.

As for Craig, I've enjoyed his run so far.

It's funny watching the pendulum swing that Connery and Moore set up. Connery's Bond was serious and deadly, Moore's more laid back, comedic, and eventually camp. After Moore, the statements were "Moore was too silly. Back to serious Bond." Then after Dalton, it was "He was too serious and dull. We need more fun." And after Brosnan devolved into camp, we're back to "serious Bond" once again.

It's only a matter of time before Craig's out and we're looking for a "fun" Bond again.

Personally, I'd put Casino Royale behind only Goldfinger (which will be hard to ever surpass--its pitch perfect) in the franchise's history. There isn't much after Thunderball that I actually enjoy watching. On Her Majesty's Secret Service is grossly underrated, though it would have benefited from a better Bond; the only Moore Bond I can stomach is The Spy Who Loved Me; Dalton's Bond is generally under appreciated, and likely suffered following in the footsteps of the fat old buffoon; and I find the Brosnan movies to be largely unwatchable (though, not because he failed in the role).

Craig works really well for me as Bond, as long as they keep him out of Jason Bourne territory (I'm looking at you, QoS). And I'm still waiting for my theory as to what Dench's "M's" real name is to be proven correct (as teased in Casino Royale). My money is on "Moneypenny."

WRONG. The World Is Not Enough and Die Another Day were much worse.

Any Bond film with Timothy Dalton in it. Hell, Micheal Weatherly as Tony DiNinozzo didn't even mention his name when he rattled off the Bond actor's names in the NCIS episode "S.W.A.K." (he didn't mention Daniel Criag's name, either, but that was most likely because "Casino Royale" was in production at the time of that episode's airing).

The absolute worst has to be On her Majesty's Secret Service. Lazenby has the charisma of a carboard stand up, Its obvious the leading bond girl wants nothing to do with him and she wasn't all that hot anyways, the plot is questionable at best, and the film's climax involves quite possibly the stupidest chase ever with a half assed B.S. ending with Bond chasing Blofeld on bobsleds where Bolfeld gets caught in some branches and gets his....

neck broken. Does that kill him? HELL NO! Somehow Blofeld is able to survive breaking his neck going 60+ MPH on a bobsled to finally decide to go O.G. Gansta style on Bond with a drive by killing his wife to end the film!

So that was why that guy was in a wheel chair in the first Moor Bond film when Bond dumps him down a smoke stack after regaining control of the helecopter I wondered how he got put in to the chair.

Actually, that's from the pre-credit sequence of For Your Eyes Only, the fifth Roger Moore film. Not the first (which was Live and Let Die). Kinda a chump ending for the former head of SPECTRE, but that was the Moore way.
