I painted the 1/12 scale Misa figure for my daughter and Misa looked more like Little Orphan Annie eyes wise! I lost the decal sheet somehow. - MT

What I find hardest is finding proper brushes for painting eyes where I live. The ones I can find are either too soft or too hard, so my eyes end up looking way less sharp than what I can see Japanese modellers do. Finding brushes small enough for little details is pretty hard in general, even at scale model stores.

For the eyes themselves, I just follow an eye painting tutorial for the order of colors and details, and try to match what is shown in the kit instructions or on the box.

Whenever I finish painting eyes, I always consider myself very lucky, if it worked out OK...

Tamiyas fine soft brushes works well for me, since the tips are very pointy and stay like that if cared for...

That I would really appreciate if they did..

Looks like a new Nausicaä fad has emerged here:lol:

Back at it this weekend with AT-AT round two painting.. preshaded completely flat black black then decanted Tamiya AS-16 Light Grey. Along with my brand new badass Amazon $20 LED adjustable neck, head, brightness and best of all, color temperature bench light!

I used my one of these the other night it's supprising how many flaws that it shows up, in a good way though. LED light is so much better for modelling than other light.

i think the only time it will let you down is colour matching stuff and subtle shading as the intensity washes out the colour, and the slight blue light you get from hyper white LEDs messes with colour. But for building and filling etc it's tha bomb.

Interesting. My Master Paint Booth lighting has a blue tint, I often paint blind, cant even see the gloss coats going down.

I've actually modded it to give it separate switches for the light and fan. I wonder if I need to mod the leds as well in order to see the gloss coats better.

Whats the best background and light combination to see the clear coats?

^ ideally, you'd work in front of a window. The more light & reflections you have, the easier it is to see the the coverage of the fresh paint. For gloss colors, I usually work as wet as I can, so you want to see the point where the paint almost runs from the surface.

Cool. There are so many FSS Volks kits. One day I will study up on them.

I'm getting into my first resin kits with some small projects.

I need to get the learning curve up for some bigger projects I have in mind.

First up the the Garfish II, which I assume is an homage to the Mospeada Garfish.

Bottom line: Gas mask and lots of sanding.  Noxious stuff!

I've been installing these in my work area. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B017SN55H4/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I painted my shop bright white! Then I have a closet that juts out in the corner. I put two of these Shop Lights on top facing outward. I bought mine at ACE hardware on sale. I now have bright diffused light. I then bought two more and put them over my work bench - I rarely use them! The two are great and burn white. NO MORE CFLs if I can help it. They mostly burn yellow. The LEDs also don't emit anywhere as much ultraviolet light either. Just DONT LOOK DIRECTLY INTO THEM! The red LED element is close to laser light. LED lights are TOTALLY worth the money. Your electricity bill goes down too!

That's a cute little gunship. I wonder if it can be made with a closing hinge?

I wasnt interested in this before, but I just realized its 1/72 and includes pilot figures. I thought it was smaller with no pilots. Must have...

It is definitely a must have (that's why I have one and its not in my scale). The molding is crisp and the detail is good. Its an easy weekend build or two.-  MT

I dont have a scale either, but I had assumed it was much smaller than it is.

I wasnt interested in a little trinket.

Okay, I'm now working on the Gunship. The flap/exhaust system is cool so I filled in and got rid of the stock hinges which put the flaps right in the way of the exhaust. I made new hinges in them out of piano wire and drilled micro holes. The piano wire actually sits in a slot carved in the flaps which makes them stronger and hides them. I added PE polycelled pattern into the exhaust area then painted it flat black. The hinges will all be hooked up to cranks inside and connected together so they can open and close together. They move in opposite directions in a small space making the engineering fun. - MT

Awesome. Show us the cranks. Not really sure how that works.

I guess you're past that point, but I found some mini-hinges at HLJ. http://www.aber.net.pl/upload/pdf/6c4a02eedba4f9c59c72b14f9297705b.pdf

Proxybidding from Japan. I also got the Neo Atlantis Skyship for JPY5,000 :)

I'm on an old-school Gainax resin binge.

Pinned and cleaned 1/15 Nadia and Jean as much as I am willing to do. The Krylon primer really brings out the pinholes... But I am no perfectionist. They look fine at eye level.

Lets see what some sanding and more priming does for them..

I also happened upon this while looking for a steampunk monowheel kit. Jaw drop...

White base applied to Nadia to bring out shadows.

Is that orange peel I have? Can only see it on magnification... Seems to be from the primer.

I recently rewatched it with my son. It went over well with the sci-fi action, but he did NOT like the musical episode.
