Reading on the Neo Glaug it implies if the Zentradi Variable Glaug were to use its full specs the one piloting it must be a Meltrandi loli.

I'm not sure on that implication.

On the Queadluun-Alma it seems to be the frame which the Feios was based upon.

http://macross.anime.net/wiki/Queadluun-Alma

Program

  • Designer:
  • Equipment Type: Battle Suits
  • Affiliation:

One of the high-end models of the Queadluun-series which was designed by Quimeliquola Arsenal during the Stellar Republic dissolution conflict. Although it was considered to have been designed for the fleet commander of the female officers' fleet for the front lines, most of the records were lost so this is not certain.

The super high-maneuverability missile launchers is the similar to the main equipment of the Queadluun-Rau, but the load capacity is 4-times greater due to the enlarged backpack. In addition, the arm pulse laser guns have such a high output that it can penetrate the anti-beam-coated armor on a VF-171 Nightmare Plus, if was equipped with it.

The design, developed by Earth engineers who defected to rogue Zentradi who designed the Feious Valkyrie, incorporated the technology from the enemy Valkyrie with the Queadluun-Rau and it has a variable function to a high-speed flight form.

The ether wave emitted by the remains of the Protodeviln, is used by Angers 672 through the astral world and the system to create a physical force field barrier is incorporated which could theoretically endue a direct hit from a Macross Cannon. It is unknown whether or not this inherent feature was originally provided in this system.

Where the hell did she get Protodevlin parts?!

YES! Loved the first book, looking forward to having this one as well!

Those kits are awesome. It'd be cool if they released them all as kits. I'm sure many would buy them. As for the MtR book II, I will be all over that when it comes out. Mecha porn at its finest.

Agreed.

Though, I wish the VF-11D Thunder Focus was at a price point comparable with the Gundam HG kits. ¥4,200 is quite a lot. Especially compared to HG kits that not only sell at ¥1,260, but are also infinitely easier to assemble.

Ah well... Macross, at least the model kits segment of it, is no where near the same level as Gundam...

One of these days, someone is going to have to photoshop this image and remove the funky background and black TV screen boxes...

... cuz that's what the description on the website says...?

Does it have boobie packs? Mein Got!!

Yeah, the price is a bit high, but I am definitely going to get a Thunder Focus. I can probably redo the camera in a 1/60 scale for the Yamato Valks. I'd like to do one for my 11C.

I'm a patient guy... I can put the preorder confirmation under the tree and wait a week.

Definitely gonna get the Visual Book, the last one was totally worth it even if I did get tenderized on the cost of shipping. If it's like the last one, it'll give me cleaner art stock to give to March for M3.

  • 4 weeks later...

I picked up the second Visual Book this evening (the second volume of the novel will have to wait until at at least tomorrow) and, just like the first one, it's really nice. More battroids, more fighters (including EXTENSIVE use of the new Hasegawa VF-11), and even a little glimpse of Chelsea's NEXT fighter (which doesn't show up in the novel)...the VF-11B Nothung II.

Managed to pick the Visual Book Vol. 02 up today. Man oh man... Macross books can be a real pain to find at times... and that's despite living in Japan!

Anyhow, new content (beyond having larger sized and a number of larger images of the VF (and Destroids & Power Suits!) and characters:

New/Revised title page artwork:

episode 8's VF-1X++ vs VBP-1/VA-110

episode 9's VF-22HG vs VF-19ACTIVE (is this the scene where Chelsea loses it?)

New "Line-art":

VF-0Kai Zeak: fighter mode AND head

New Models:

VF-19ACTIVE Nothung Battroid mode: groovy looking new head design

SV-52γ Oryol Battroid mode: is that the Full Armour VF-11's GU-XS-06 gun pod FTW???

approx. 3 cm tall painted scratch-builds of the 7 main cast members! ... and how they were made.

VF-22HG Schwalbe-Zwei High-speed configuration AND High-maneuver mode (aka: legs & arms ditched mode)

Data Files:

01: story (character relationships, synopsis of eps 07-12

02: variable mechanism design: VF-25. Lego, 2DCG modelling, hand-drawn details and finished model kit

03: Destroid Series: a plus is we get to see how the ADR-04-Mk-XV Super Defender fits into the genealogy presented in Macross Chronicle.

04: VF supplemental equipment (super pack, armour pack, booster, fold booster, super fold booster, AEGIS pack, etc.) + line art of the Paladin pack's lance and head design roughs

05: Zentraadi mecha (interesting that the DYRL stuff is referred to as "the Propaganda movie's Queadlunn-Rau".)

Interviews:

01 the CG works artist. Interesting to see the process of how they take a rough sketch, and transform that into finished artwork using the scratch builds and layers in photoshop.

02: Tommy Otsuka - which is mainly a joke image: "Regult the Ride", complete with a souped up Regult for the Ostrich Class Vanquish races.

Special Interview: Kazutaka Miyatake: w/ images of the VF cockpit interiors that he's designed over the years.

03: Kuwa (the modeller behind many of the MtR scratch builds): includes lineart/sketches of the Queadluun-Alma and the GCU-M3Kai Camera Pod folded in half & used on the shoulder.

And of course, the "Macross the Ride AFTER" section:

introduces the VF-11B Nothung II.

10 page manga of the VF-11D Thunder Focus's crew filming an M25 Vanquish race and interacting with the characters after.

... and the book closes out with a complete list of all the models used, who assembled them, mode, scale, manufacturer, scratch-built/improved upon/painted/etc and which episode they first appeared in.

Summary: a good investment. And probably the best feature is that it's not going to break the bank at ¥950.

Dengeki Hobby 2012.02 issue is out, with a large dollop of awesome sauce!

MtR is over, but this issue might as well be counted as a new episode, as we get not one, but 2 new scratch build kits!

VF-11D Thunder Focus: GERWALK and Battroid modes:

Probably the most interesting thing is how the camera pod is held in GERWALK and battroid modes. Though, seeing how "little" scratch building is needed to make the two modes out of the fighter kit is also eyebrow raising (other than the joints, it seems like only the forearms had to be scratch built.)

And we also get to see the camera pod folded in half - groovy considering the lineart in the Visual Book.

There's a reprint of the Special Interview of Kazutaka Miyatake from the visual book (or is the visual book reprinting the magazine?) Anyhow, noticed something that I didn't notice yesterday: Miyatake-san has drawn an entirely new VF-11D cockpit layout just for the VF-11D Thunder Focus! Take a sec to digest that.

There's also a page introducing the VF-19 ACTIVE and SV-52γ battroid modes (so, if one picks up the mag first, that's 4 scratch builds introduced...)

+ (and you thought the awesome sauce was a small dollop, eh?) the announcement of a Macross the Ride Dengeki Hobby Contest 2012!

Here's the contest info: http://hobby.dengeki..._con/index.html (if I'm reading it correctly, entries must be based off of a Hasegawa kit... which explains why half the prizes are Hasegawa kits)

Macross the Forefront (it's a really big dollop of awesome sauce)

Yamato VF-17S in all it's dark purple/black goodness, along with Super Packs for the VF-25F and VF-25S renewal DX Chougoukin.

I could not find novel 2 at the book stores around here and ordered at amazon.

I hope I can read it during year-end and new year holidays.

By the way, my VF-11 appeared in Tenjin-sensei's VF-11D box art!!

I have to say thank you to a guy from Dengeki Hobby Magazine for using my 11 so many times.

My first thought was a Feios Valkyrie.

http://www.macross2....ossga/feios.htm

If it does have a fighter mode somebody reverse engineered the Feios Valkyrie much like the the Zentradi Glaug design was taken from Zentradi rebels.

Makes me wonder if the Final Weapon has been reversed engineered. It is a combiner made up of three pieces.

This one kinda reminds me of the FBz-99G Saubergeran being piloted by Gavil (Macross 7)

Such an awesome head design!

^_^ I said almost exactly the same thing when my copy of Macross the Ride: Visual Book Vol.2 rolled in a few days ago.

('s anyone else vaguely reminded of an Ingram Patrol Labor when they look at the VF-19ACTIVE's head?)

i just dont fathom why the VF-25 gunpod is all the rage (what is the designation?)? its too large for the transformation, plus the shield was designed for back-clips (Bullpup), not a long dorsal clip like the VF-11 uses... Sorry if ya'll disagree, its the mechanic in me talkin'...

While I'd love to see Yamato make the VF-19ACTIVE, it would financially be quite a big risk for them, as it would involve an awful lot of new tooling and thus expense for just one paint variant.

It would require all new tooling for the head, shoulders, shield, lower legs, feet and wings.
