Thanks to danbickell's truly great help with some renders of his awesome VF-1's cockpit the other day, my VF-1 profiles now have a DYRL cockpit. I think it turned out pretty well. It'll get some tweaks eventually, I'm sure, and I'd like to do a TV one eventually too.

I only did the parts of the cockpit that could conceivably be visible, but there's still a lot covered up. You can see those details here.

Well after saving my art from a failing HDD and enduring the slog of re-installing XP and all the needed updates to get somewhere, I've actually finished the Vlak! Here's the first of the non cannon profiles in something of mismatched scheme. She's wearing the F-14's three tone TPS but the F-4's tail art :)

Damian... on the engine nacelles? at the very back of the stripe next to the exhaust 'feet'... on some of the older model kits, they had numbers like 217 on this Imai VF-1J or LOLz, 217 on this Max VF-1J kit.

now the numbers being the same is just plan slobbiness on part of the markers or artists... but what if you just run with the idea of those numbers being like Serial Numbers for engine nacelles? on the presumption that when VF-1 Valkyrie's engines need to be removed for extensive servicing or repair, the whole assembly is removed, either the entire leg or just the lower leg from the joint? reason why im suggesting is, because the leg supports so much weight in battroid mode, that it requires special procedures to remove the FF-200#-series motors, something that O-level (the squadron owning the aircraft) cant do. (this presumes that on what ever vessel the aircraft is assigned to, that they have spare motors or complete leg assemblies on board. *shrug* just trying to apply my understanding of how Powerplants works from a real world, carrier navy POV...

anyway, think you could put that number in that location?

Has anyone ever come across any line art for the VF-27?

There's a side view of the model in the instructions that could be used as a basis for one.

Finished another VF-1, in this case it's one from Master File, a block 13-17 VF-1J. In MF, the VF-1 was suffering from fatigue problems and had to be fitted with external stiffeners on the ventral fin and tail so this block eliminated most of those. It also features flush antennas on the spine and rearranged access to the avionics bay in the nose.

On a VF-1 roll, I finished two upgraded VF-1s from the VF-1 Master File book. The designs were tweaked some, mostly in the canopy and intake, to make them flow better. I also did the new gunpod for them, the one the VF-3000 uses, but I want to rework it a bit before I post it.

Finally got the cockpit installed in these, so I thought I would post them up. From top to bottom, the VF-1D+ (DYRL? cockpit interior for now, since I don't have a TV interior done yet), VT-1, and the civilianized VT-1C. This is supposed to be a bare one, not like the whale hunters'. The head is a custom piece, VF-1A base with the laser removed and replaced with a second camera for the backseater. Still need to fiddle with the nose some, try and get rid of that chin it has.

Damian, why do you call the colorful paint jobs 'lead bird'? in Naval Aviation jargon, the painted-pretty birds in the Airwing are called CAG birds, since they are typically the only aircrafted allowed non-low vis paint scemes Examples from 'Teh Last & Teh Stupid

Damian, IRL, VF-124 was the 'Gunfighters'.

I do indeed know that they were the "Gunfighters". They also had the tomcat mascot as a prominent feature of their tail art which wouldn't really do what with the VF-1 not being a F-14 and all. So a change in mascot and in my mind the unit deciding to change their name. It has happened before in the light attack squadrons. If that doesn't fly then it's not even the same VF but a new SVF assigned the 124 number (easier to swallow for some I suppose).

Yup know that the full colour birds in both the hi viz (see the rainbow tails) and in the current low viz era are referred to as CAG bird, a minor slip up on my part.
