Onto Heavy Metal L-Gaim since some time: it could have been called "heavy" all short – definitively not among the best of Tomino...

Recently saw the Zeta compilation trilogy (review here: http://www.dyrl.pl/detale.html?id=1042) and am now watching the Gunbuster OVA for the first time. Done with the first 5 episodes and will watch the 6th as soon as I manage to download it :-)

Also saw Galaxy Express 999 for the first time (movie) - reviewed it here: http://www.dyrl.pl/detale.html?id=1043)

Naturally, as Keith predicted a long time ago, I did indeed LOVE Galaxy Express 999 - but I'm not sure about whether the killing of Count Mecha tops episode 11 of Gurren Lagann/Simon's moment of Truth...unless Keith was talking about the 999 series, which I haven't seen yet...

Next on my list - if I manage to find it - I'd like to see Diebuster/Aim for Top II.

Still lots of stuff I need to watch... :-0 Being unemployed and broke is great for watching anime though :-)

Gunbuster's episode 6 is in my view, one of the most moving and stunning thing's I've ever watched. I'm sure you'll enjoy it...

As far as Diebuster is concerned, it is actually available in Europe in both DVD and bluray. I have to say that even though its pretty good, it just didn't blow me away the way Gunbuster did

One thing you have to keep in mind too, is that back in the late 70's / early 80's, an orphaned boy traveling through space on a mission to avenge his mother, learning important life's lessons & taking on an entire mechanical empire was pretty freakin' epic. Not to mention the rewarding feeling of seeing Count Mecha take one right in the "eye" after seeing how he mounted Tetsuro's mother in his dining room.

Things do play out quite differently in the TV version for many of these characters, so I won't spoil that for you, since you may be able to find it streaming free in your territory (It's streaming free here in the U.S., but they may have a region lock on that).
