s001
Oh yeah that makes a lot of sense. That Super maneuver thing is hideous. Why didn't they just introduced the strike pack in macross the first.

EXO
Simplicity is so much more elegant... I'd like them if they were just Macross The Ride customs but to replace the classic ones with those... I'll wait until I read the book for final judgement.

UN Spacy
Can still convince Graham it ISN'T too late for Yamato to make Macross The First VF-1's? I'm kinda digging those Fast Packs.
anime52k8
Simplicity is so much more elegant... I'd like them if they were just Macross The Ride customs but to replace the classic ones with those... I'll wait until I read the book for final judgement. Macross R was the first thing that came to mind when I saw the Maneuver pack. It would make sense and look pretty cool as a frontier era upgrade of a VF-1, but it looks too advanced to be original equipment from the SDF:M era. For the other two, I think the attack is kind of ugly looking, but it actually makes a lot of sense contextually, so I'll give it a pass (except for the arm missile launchers, the originals where better and I see no point in changing them) The Cruiser pack on the other hand looks like they stole the backpack off of a Gundam. hulagu
I think the "High Maneuver" pack is supposed to be for atmospheric use? Reminds me vaguely of the VF-11 pack. I don't know if they will actually show up in the manga later? Edited June 7, 2012 by hulagu
Gubaba
Whoa... VF-1S with the Tomahawk's gun arm!? Yes. Now where's the customizer-who-likes-a-challenge who'll make this a reality...?
sketchley
Re MtF in NA 2012 Vol 10 Spoiler free stuff: We get the colour designs (or coloured designs) for Buritai and Ekusedoru. Lapulamizu's fleet uses the standard Zentraadi ships (thereby lending credence to the argument that the Meltran ships that appeared in DYRL are really human ships dressed up as Zentraadi ones. Something that VF-X2 supports). ... and the very next page we get Bodoruza's fortress - the DYRL version (thereby deflating any support the preceding page had about the true origin of the Meltran ships that were seen in DYRL... not to mention negating the trivia that the DYRL version of his fortress was really a dressed up Beginhill ship). Laplamizu's looks like a cross between the DYRL (face) and SDFM (body) designs with a uniform that is reminiscent of Buritai's MtF uniform. Bodoruza's face looks like a cross between the two version, too. Albeit the head and body are all DYRL. The freaky B-movie thing is that he has two disembodied head advisers (erm, auxiliary commanders) floating next to him (er, his head). They also look like they're connect to, or are part of the ship, just like the big guy - but with smaller torsos and less tentacles. Miria's design is more or less akin to the SDFM version - her uniform looks similar to the Zentraadi ones seen so far in MtF (which are basically DYRL ones) - though more feminine, and the bust area matches that of Laplamizu's. Spoilers from here on out - you were warned! Lapulamizu is standing in front of Bodoruza. The auxillary commanders yell at her that she's rude for being there. But the key thing is that it mirrors a similar scene in DYRL. Thereby raising the flag of: we have no idea where the story's going. Bodoruza shows Lapulamizu a LOT of diverse images of Earth. Sure, the majority are probably TV transmissions that have been intercepted, but it implies that the Zentraadi have been paying a LOT more attention to Earth than previously implied. Also... and this the "wow, Mikimoto is an awesome writer" moment: in one stroke he ties MF AND M0 into MtF: prior to Buritai's arrival, the Zentraadi were aware of a "Vajra Queen type Mobile Fortress fold reaction" - which is further defined (in a sidebar) that it was "the fold wave produced by the "Tori no Hito" that was awoken during the Mayan Island incident!" Among the images we get our first... sex scene! (though it's a single AV frame) To top it off... and to further underline the culture difference, Lapulamizu misunderstands doggy style as "Meltran and Zentran being so close that they even practice hand to hand combat together" Picking jaw off floor... Then Bodoruza runs down why they're interested in Earth: - the Inspection Force's warship - the legendary reaction weapons - microns (miclones) - Zentran and Meltran living together - Vajra Queen type fold wave - they have a deep interest in clarifying if the people of Earth are the Protoculture (the conversation goes on with recollecting the Protoculture's directive that the Zentraadi shall not lay a hand on a micron world and Bodoruza tells Lapulamazu to relax as Buritai is chasing the SDF-1 and leaving Earth alone) So, like yeah... what I thought would be a throw away chapter which basically functions as a clip-show to get new readers up to speed has proven to be highly interesting and further obscuring where the story is going to go. Tochiro
Some pics to go along with Sketcley's descpription of Vol. 10 (detailed contents posted in the Scoop thread). As usual, these are rushed and taken during my lunchbreak at work (such as it is). Cover of this issues Macross booklet-I sure hope they get around to releasing an official binder for these things at some point. The Playback in Divas section is a 6 page spread on ISHTAR! This would explain why they started selling the issue early - to prevent SAVE from camping out and buying them all up! See? Not all Mikimoto's updated designs HAVE to be moe-ish. Quick, someone touch Minmay's,,,,er,,,,,heart. Even with underboob though, Minmay still cant come close to matching THIS hotness. Kelsain
NIce... she looks good! Her expression is perfect for her intro. Happy to see that they haven't retconned her to Klan Klan proportions. Unfortuntate that it's been fully decided that the Bodol-Zer is the flagship. I really prefer the FB from the TV series. Say, there's no chance that the next page after those fast pack pictures says: "those were our ideas, but do to resource limitations, we went with this..." showing the regular ones. Right? Right? (I thought I already mentioned something to that effect in this thread... can't find it. Maybe another... oh well) That's pretty much the way it goes. Something along the lines of, "we can do this or this or this... but due to limited resources we're going to go with the super parts that were already pretty much already designed before the launch ceremony." Also, heres something I'll bet none ever thought Boldolza would say... VAJURA QUEEN-TYPE FOLD WAVE! And now for something less spoilerific... UN Spacy
I take it this issue of NA is worth purchasing? I picked up #8 just for the booklet, and passed on #9 (got the booklet elsewhere). BTW. Tochiro
I take it this issue of NA is worth purchasing? I picked up #8 just for the booklet, and passed on #9 (got the booklet elsewhere). It's a little hard to say - the actual FIRST manga is short and is doesn't have any action. On the other hand, it has a rocking' cover, booklet, and A4 sized Macross cloth bag ^^;

nexxstrait
From the images I saw of Vol #4 (some ebay stores already carry it), it ends with the female scientist showing the super packs prototypes: does that mean Vol #4 collects all the stuff published in Newtype Ace up to now, including the very last issue? UN Spacy
Just looking back at the release dates...looks like we're getting one issue per year. I'm not too familiar with his previous manga's...but does anyone think this is taking longer than expected? Is Haruhiko Mikimoto allowed to set his own release schedule for this? nexxstrait
Dunno, about Volume 4, but the serialization in NA 9 doesn't end immediately after Xena's brief. Vermillion Team's first mission and aftermath follows. It probably contains the part you mention then, the prototype thing comes towards the end but is probably followed by some other pages. I connot say for sure as I glimpsed it from an image and not the actual product. Thanks anyway!
