I remember reading that the the original guy (Showori?) sorry, saying he didn't want to do sequels. I hope as this guy gets older he comes to his senses and a) gives the fans what they want and b) friggin cash in!!!. Anyways, thanks for reading my post. I still want an ending dammit!!!! Hikaru and Minmay go their separate ways, Hikaru and Misa finally get together. B. The battle of Macross City. Hikaru rebuffs Minmay and goes off with Misa again. Minmay gets invited along on the Megaroad. What would they do for a sequel? Have Hikaru break it off with Misa to chase Minmay AGAIN, only to realize AGAIN that he wants Misa? Besides the endings so to speak Macross Flashback 2012, though most of it are music videos, gives us an epilogue of SFDFM. As Minmay said she did join Misa and Hikaru in the first emigration fleet. Four years after leaving Earth nobody has heard of them. Their last known position is somewhere in the core region of the galaxy. Where all sort of crap happen. Protodevlin, Vajra who knows what else is there. That is why old school Zentradi fanboy Richard Bilrer was hoping the Vajra could have the answer in finding Minmay. taksraven Posted May 24, 2009 Share Posted May 24, 2009 I definitely agree with those who say that the show should keep moving forwards. A little backwards glance is OK once in a while (I loved the fact that Macross Zero gave us a little bit more time with Roy and Macross 7 gave us a little bit more time with Max and Miriya) but the series really should keep moving ahead. Like I have said before, I would love it if a future program had humans finally encountering the Protoculture. That would be the enemy to end all enemies as far as Macross goes. Tokusatsu Ace had "Ultraman the First," but they didn't turn that into a series. Gundam Ace has "Gundam the Origin," but that hasn't become a series. I don't think "Macross the First" will be any different. Besides, Space War I has been done as an animated TV show, a movie, some novels, and now a comic. Isn't that enough? I don't know if Macross the First appearing in Macross Ace is feeling out to see if there is interest reanimating SDF Macross or creating animation of the original characters after Flashback 2012,but I think Macross the First maybe a way of introducing the original series to people who may not want to watch older animation like SDf Macross. I also think Shoji Kawamori came up with the ending he did for our heroes after they left on the Megaroad 01 was so no one would come in and mess up his characters after he told their story. That was the only thing I didn't like about Frontier. I took FB 2012 to show our characters "riding off into the sunset" and just ignored the "never heard from again" business in my personal canon. I just took it that their story was over and complete. That approach just put that nagging feeling to rest. Now that their loss is somewhat acknowledged by Bilrer in Frontier...within the Macross animation itself...that was actually kind of a big deal for me. Every Macross title he's done has unanswered questions in them, no tidy little bow as the North American masses have been programmed into believing is necessary. As I get older I appreciate this approach more and more, as it keeps creative options open for future tales if inspiration hits right. The whole Brilar motivation only reinforces the legend of Minmay, not only within the universe, but also for the fans. I expect that now, no story, no matter how inspired could possibly live up to the fans' expectations of what the original triangle could have become. It is true that after DYRL, Kawamori swore off Macross for nearly a decade, but his clout in the franchise is what got him the funding to do Plus, which was not written as a Macross story originally. When he did return the inevitable Megaroad question came up and he's always maintained that the story of Hikaru, Misa and Minmay has been told and he has no interest in revisiting it. That isn't to say he never will, but so far after 25 years he has never been inspired to tell any new stories about that trio. I'd suggest accepting the fate of the Megaroad as one of the many mysteries of the Macross universe and move on. taksraven, I doubt we'll ever see any Protoculture fleets in Macross. The PC are the ultimate enigma and I kinda like it that way. Every production reveals a new kernel of information about the civilization. Besides, if the remnants of the PC's were to come out in force, they'd wipe out any NUNS forces they'd feel the need to attack, so it would be a very short show.... There is a rather large gap between Flashback 2012 and Macross Plus set in 2040 that i would want explored abit more. And i still want to get a wrap on the protoculture story though. It was featured in Macross 7 very well but still not concluded. I'd love to have someone actually meet a survivor or something. Remember, when anything (like a Colonization Fleet ) enter a black hole's event horizon it won't feel the effects inmediately, but it will be already trapped into it and it won't be able to escape... Nothing can escape a black hole's event horizon, NOT EVEN COMMUNICATIONS... Hey, wait a minute... I think contact with Megaroad 01 was lost some time ago, maybe they actually reached the Milky Way's center as planned. BTW in our galaxy's center there is a Suppermassive Black Hole, so maybe they're still unharmed. Although the idea of of a new show based on the original crew would be cool, it's not likely and sort of impossible (Hikaru's voice actor, and some other are no longer with us). I'd kill to see the VF-1 have more screen time....it was nice to see Hikaru's VF-1 in Frontier, as well as a few VF-1s in the airshow special, but it just left me wanting more. The VF-4 does absolutely nothing for me. Just looks hideous compared to the VF-1 All I can hope for is the original show with all the animation redone but keep the original voices, sound effects and music. It'd be nice if they threw in ai, oboete imasu ka? for the fleet battle like in the movie. This will never happen from the studio, one can only hope that in 15 or 20 years, a group of dedicated and skilled fans may get together and just do it. Maybe CGI will progress enough one day to the point where accomplishing this would be a piece of cake for anyone to do. Sorry, straying off topic here. Back to the topic, doubt anything will happen from the studio. What you hope for will only happen by the fans. I don't like have endings just dangling like that. But seeing as the voice actor for Hikaru is deceased, and this was apparently a good friend of Kowomori, I doubt we would see the actual characters themselves in anything but flashbacks or pictures on a mantle. If Kowomori however did continue with the original story, I would think it would best be done through Misa and Hikaru's daughter Miku Ichijyo. Agreed, one of the things I asked myself was why wasn't Macross 7 about the further adventures on the Megaroad. If you get it going post a link. I've been thinking about one off and on, having to do with a fleet leaving Earth just before the Zentradi attack. There were two great projects being done at the same time, the Grand Canon and the very first emigration fleet, seen more as a last ditch effort to try and save some people... It's main cast would be decedents from original Macross characters - or their extended families for the most part. It would use familiar aspects from Macross, Macross II and Robotech, and entail these people running from their new home and stumbling across an abandoned Macross Long Rang Colonization fleet. That's why M0 was ok but left me somehow less enthusiastic (altough Roy rocks). And I think it is not correct to say tha Kawamory doesn't like sequels, as each and every Macross series is a sequel: M7 is a sequel to SDF Macross, along with Plus; Dynamite is a sequel to M7, along with Frontier (wich in turn is a sequel to M0). Big West can produce a show that features Max & Miria alongside new characters but not a show with Hikaru, Misa and Minmay? Come on. There are fans that supported Macross in the beginning--back in 82'-'83! Fans of the original show that spent tons of money to propel it to the success that spawned all these sequels set 50+ years in the future. Fans buying stacks of Bandai 1/55 valkyries and books and records/cassette tapes/CDs in 1984. They never got the ending they wanted. I remember when the Flashback 2012 LD came out in '87 there was so much interest in the new footage and..then in turned out to be just a glimpse of what could have been. Imagine a Megaroad 01 movie/OVA/series with the original cast, VF-4s in full-blown ultra modern CG battle scapes, Breetai, Minmay singing old and new songs--it would be colossal in both size and box office/DVD/BD impact. It would be a worldwide sales phenomenon for Big West. With that cast, it could be marketed everywhere. At the end of the day, Big West is a business, and clearly there is a business case that can be made for such a project. At this point I know there is a slim chance of the original cast ever returning (maybe for the 30th?) but imagine if Bilrer meets Minmay in the Macross Frontier movie and she sings the ending song along with Sheryl and Ranka...?! Yeah right. Lastly, I would rather have no continuation of the original cast anime than a Hollywood live action flick that desecrates everything beyond comprehension. God help us if Hollywood ever makes a Macross live action flick with Charlie Sheen playing Hikaru and Ziyi Zhang playing Minmay....don't laugh...with the success of Transformers, worse things may happen... Okay, I grant more Minmay songs. I reiterate: The story HAD an ending. It had TWO endings, even. The post-war arc is almost painful with it's re-opening of the love triangle. (I love the fact that the show actually deals with the ramifications of the end of the world, but the core love triangle makes me cringe.) Throw in DYRL's alternate version and there's THREE endings. The original cast's story is over. All we'll get out of revisiting them is a bunch of Minmay fans whining about how Hikaru needs to break it off with Misa. ... SDF Macross is probably the most complete anding we have in Macross terms. The hero gets with the woman he loves, the enemies are vanquished and a new era for mankind begins. But I would love to see a new series with a new gen finding the Megaroad-01 and finding out what actually happened. The whole just disappearing doesn’t leave us with any closure at all. Preferably without guitar playing giant robots and Hikaru and Misa not given the Dr Shaw treatment from the last Alien movie. Minmei... eh. Which would make sense given how Basara is the 2nd most popular character in the entire franchise. Will he actually do it though? Personally, I doubt it.
