Kinda gives new meaing to "May the Force be with you" I have several options if a good aprty presents itself this year. I was considering somehow merging Zombie with Stormtrooper, that armor is such a pain in the ass (literally) that zombieing it up might actually make it more fun to wear It's a cheap old FX suit anyhow so I' won't be doing any sort of grave injustice to a piece of movie history or anything. kensei Posted October 12, 2008 Share Posted October 12, 2008 (edited) We don't have halloween here. My friends and I have a movie night that night. With Pizza and all, ready to have a good time. The dress code is anything that is easy to run in. Often teens come in no costume and demand food or else they egg the house. We'll be ready to chase them down and make them pay if they egg the house, just like last year. I'll be ready to back up the locals too, they often pick on the elderly. Cowards. I'd like to experience Halloween properly in the US one day though. I like to see creativity with effort for once, that I can praise. If we did and considering my current bodyshape, i would love to get a costume so I could dress up as Ryu from Gatchaman. Fat Darth Vader does not cut the mustard. Failing that a trenchcoat would help cover up my gut and I could go as Rorschach. THAT would be cool. I live in the fairly small town of Kingston, Ontario and the "Everyone is a child rapist" paranoia has made Halloween almost non-existent. Assuming parents even let their kids go trick or treating half the time they DRIVE their kids house to house Also I live in a apartment building and I know the lady next door doesn't even let her kid go trick or treating and only lets her kid go down to the lobby and get what they have down there. Now don't get me wrong you'll still see the random house decked out for it and toys r us has tons of costumes but last year when I was at my buddies house we had 6 kids come from 6pm-9pm So has the spirit Halloween been lost due to the constant paranoia of ultra over protective parents? I found a good costume of him, and I've got plenty of pictures to get the facepaint just right, but I'd have to shave my 10" goatee off and that just ain't happening. Maybe I'll do it in the future when I start going bald or something. I'll probably just park my butt on the porch and pass out the candy. Sadly the answer is almost to the point of a definate yes. As you said, every parent in America just KNOWS that both their neighbors are rapists or killers. Everyone knows that someone will put a razor blade in an apple or some candy for a kid to eat. Truth is these occurances are quite rare but the .272% of the time it does happen scares the hell out of protective parents. It's becoming common for even 12 yr olds to go out with their parents on halloween just to go around the block. It'll be very much like Xmas, where you give candy and presents to kids. Only the decorations are black and orange and spooks, instead of green and red and elves. Noticed how Xmas-y Halloween already is? They now have gift tags and "stocking stuffers" and gingerbread houses----and more and more toys. Easter's going that way too---Easter baskets now have enough toys to supply an average kid at Xmas and Target usually has 2 entire aisles of just TOYS for Easter. Where I live, it's pretty much still going very strong. My subdivision is fairly new, and it's "safe" for trick or treaters in that all of us giving out candy are "good" and the streets in there don't get a whole lot of traffic so no worries about getting run over. This is my 6th year there, and candy bags have gone from 300-about 600 given out every year. It costs me a lot. SO many families coming to our neighborhood from others. I throw a huge bash for people in my garage and require costumes of the adults so we all have a blast, the kids can trick or treat in a safe neighborhood, and it's all good. Halloween in my neighborhood is still alive and well. We have tons of kids that are elementary school age, so at night the neighborhood is bustling kids. The parents usually tag along to keep an eye out. Almost all of the households are families, and we sort of know most people. I really only stay within walking distance of my house when I take my daughter. That's usually enough to get a ton of candy. Occasionally you get the nutty parents that drive their kids around to many, many houses. It's kind of insane. They slowly keep pace in their car as their kids walk from house to house. I can understand if you don't care to trick-or-treat in the neighborhood you live in, but some people are all about getting as much free candy as humanly possible in one evening. I simply walk around, and I still have so much candy that we haven't even finished off last year's loot. I think it has more to do with the apartment living vs houses. I lived in many apartments in my lifetime, and I never saw trick-or-treating in apartment complexes that I lived in. I also think it goes back to knowing your neighbors. For whatever reason I have come to know most people that live around me now, but when I was in apartments I really kept to myself most of the time. I however did not have the time or money to put together an awesome costume this year. I am dressing up. Mainly for my son. I am going as a wizzard. I have a pretty cool tattered cape and a fantasia-esque hat. I may wear that over my kimono or just over jeans and a shirt. Not sure yet.
