The las one was Revenge of the Sith. I had long since given up on the god awful New Jedi Order books long ago, and everything I'd read about the newer stuff turning the books into a giant trainwreck made me shake my head, but I couldn't resist this. Behind Zahn and Stackpole, Allston was one of the best Star Wars novelists who picked up and ran with the X-wing series when Stackpole had other commitments. Wish me luck!!! Great stuff,a dark in tone season with some good episodes. 2 Jar Jar eps are a waste of time but hey. The Sifo Dias arc was great. Now we wait for the new Rebels series. Technically before it--I mean, that's where Anakin and Asokha meet, while they already know each other in the very first ep of the series IIRC. Though the Clone Wars series did have a very non-linear format an would have episodes that where leading up to the events of the movie, which would place them in the past...without comment, and would leave it up to the viewer to know what was happening. Duke Togo Posted March 29, 2014 Share Posted March 29, 2014 (edited) A few years ago I tried to watch season 1 of The Clones Wars, and well, it didn't go so well. I don't believe I even finished it. I can't recall if I posted about it on here or not, but the experience for me was something like watching the worst parts of Episodes I and II over and over again as an episodic TV series. As the years went by I was confused by the fan base that seemed to have grown around it. When things kinda blew up over its cancelation, I thought perhaps I needed to give the series another try. Boy, am I glad I did. Thanks to the glory of Netflix, I was recently able to binge on all 6 seasons. Getting through season 1 again was tough, but season 2 certainly proved that it was worth the effort--and it only got better from there. It was great to see so many plot holes and glaring narrative gaps finally filled in. And some of the story arcs were simply riviting. It wasn't all roses, though; the occasional lapse into season 1-type storylines were utterly painful to sit through (4 episodes of droids in season 5 and 4 episodes of Padme goes to the bank and Jar Jar saves the galaxy in season 6 were particularly bad). Also troublesome was the sheer amount of retconning going on that became somewhat frustrating at times (of both and the movies and the EU, but I suppose being that TCW is EU it's to be expected). Another thing that nagged at me was the character model change (season 2? or was that season 3?) that left Anakin looking EXACTLY like popular Star Wars voice actor Sam Witwer, down to his very facial expressions. Everytime I saw him I couldn't help but notice it. I'm sad to see this show go, as it clearly had the narrative legs to carry it through to its conclusion. Even for its stumbles, they got so much right that the series is just something that should not be missed by any Star Wars fan. There is so much I could and would talk about here, but I feel those moments have passed with the discussions that has come before as each new episode aired. Ties into Episode III well. Overall, I liked the series, I went into it pretty skeptical, and almost gave up a few times, but glad I finished it. I think they could have gone on longer. What I was asking myself throughout the entire series was if Episode III were animated, would it blend with the series? Where they left off, I would say not quite. Questions that left me hanging: What happened to Rex? What happened to Ashoka? What happened to Maul? Reasons I couldn't tie the series to the films: Could this Anikin slaughter younglings? No. Too much good in him to get deranged enough to flip sides and do that. Could these clones slaughter Jedi without remorse afterwards? Doubtful. Wish Anikin was more messed up before he turned to the dark side in Ep III. Would have been good to see him with more disfigurement, more machine, more psychological issues before he went ape-$hit in the Jedi temple. Would have been awesome if he was full-on black mask Vader by the end of Ep. II or at least middle of Ep III. Anyway, just gripes, and there's nothing that can be done about it now. The Anikin that is “redeemed” by the end of Ep VI looks like the same guy that slaughtered younglings, doesn’t have a face I could trust as redeemed. He should have been thoroughly messed up, both physically and mentally by the time he got to that point in his life. Then when he does get redeemed, his image is of the human we physically recognize as when he was still mostly good. Maybe Star Wars Rebels will fill in some of those gaps, hopefully address what happened to Rex, Ashoka and maybe explore some more stuff about the clone troopers. This series really got me attached to some of those characters, so it really sucks that they all ended up as faceless Stormtroopers/cannon fodder of Ep IV, V and VI. Apparently you can even go down to the minute mark on where you'rs supposed to stop. /nerrrrrdsI do feel very strongly that watching TCW in chronological order is important. A lot of people say it's not big deal but it messes with the overall feel of the story if you just power through it on netflix. Especially in S2-early 3 and the first episode of 5 if watched too early. My thoughts after finishing it are that with knowing how E3 played out, the S6 Yoda arc didn't fit at all. It makes Yoda look senile and stupid. Everything he saw and experienced through the force, then along comes E3 and he's just as stumped as everyone else about what the hell is going on. It doesn't go well together in that aspect. Adding to what's been said: Anakin: Still fully believable that he falls easily. Why? He's selfish, proud, egotistical and quick to anger. Palpatine plays off all of those things and he sees his one reason for living die in a vision. Nothing else matters. I could go into EU explanations that make his fall in E3 much more believable but none of that matters anymore. Ashoka: I think her ending might have been a "tv getting too far ahead of itself" kind fo thing to be honest. I'd have to look into it, but I bet they had grand plans for something later in the series and that "later" never came. S6 is a clear indicator of that. Rex: Left hanging. Wookieepedia basically just has him not part of the 501st anymore. GG WP KTHXBAI. I don't know why, though I haven't really looked into it either.The clones turning on the Jedi is explained as clear as day. While I don't necessarily like it, it makes a hell of a lot more sense than "they were just following orders." What the Emperer/Palpatine was saying was just not believable enough to turn anyone. If you know what Im saying. I mean the only reason he didn't allow mace to kill Palpatine was for his own selfish reasons and wanting to learn how he can save padme. I tried to find info on what happened to Rex as well, but all I got was he left the 501st.....read somewhere that Cody killed him, but there was nothing official on it. The Clones and Order 66 was explained, but what I was wondering was what happens to them after? When Fives lost his $hit and wanted to kill Jedi, he also lost his personality momentarily. If the chip in their head works properly, do they stay in that trance-like state for the rest of their lives, or do they revert and get their individual personalities back? If they stay automatons, then there's no worry, no questions, but if they revert, there's going to be a big WTF from the clones, just like Fives experienced after killing squid-head. Yeah, they're supposed to obey orders without question, but we've seen evidence of that not always being true. The series built up a huge fan base for the Clones themselves, the writers went to the trouble to build them up, give them individual characters, likeable ones too, so to have them all instantly turn into mindless zombies after Order 66 kind of blows. Watching the Jedi Order was like watching a victim in a horror movie going into a dark basement alone where Freddy Kruger is waiting to cut them up. You know it's going to happen, you scream at the television for them not to go there, but they do anyways and get *ucked, haha! This news is INSANELY exciting, this came out of nowhere and the only thing I can say is that, IT'S HAPPENING, CLONE WARS IS BACK! We WILL get the ending we deserved after all, and with everything that happened afterward with Anakin and Ahsoka in Rebels, this season will bring the feels, big time.
