Not only does Alto's VF get damaged again, this is technically a new VF because his old one blew up (Gilliam is flying his old plane in the afterlife now at least).

Those poopoo-ing Brera's skills are a bit critical. It was a 3 vs 1 fight. And its not like the 3 he was up against were CF material. Imagine if Brera had 2 more of his 27 buddies to back him up. The fact that he went up against 3 fighters, suffered minor damage and still manage to complete his mission and play the harmonica says something for him. :D

It wasn't simultaneously 3 vs 1. By the time Alto and Mikhail arrives, Klan was already defeated. It was up to Alto to have a melee with him. The only time it was exactly 2 vs 1 was when Alto and him were locked hand in hand combat. Prior to that, Alto engaged him on one to one, and I think Alto has better skills.

Great episode, nice mecha porn, the dogfights are insane

wonder what does NUNS and Leon are really after...this got civil war written all over, or perhaps SMS getting thrown out of Frontier for opposing NUNS in the future like the SDF-1 got booted off Earth

I hope to see the VF-0S next episode

Just finished watching episode 8 and I enjoyed it, however it did not "feel" like a complete episode; it was almost as if something was missing. I was glad to see Alto get that butt whipping (he had that comming), and to see more of the VF-27

in action. As far as I can tell, it looks like michael's sister might have killed herself after what appears to be a trial or a court-marshal, I'm not sure. Finally, did I hear one of the pixies call Klan "sister"? Are they sisters?

Michael's sister killed herself after a court marshal that tried her for the suspicion of friendly firing on purpose. Apparently she shot her squad leader whom she had an affair with and they broke up just before their current mission. And the pixies called Klan-kaln sister because they were close. Obliviously Klan-klan must be the big sister types to the rest of the Pixies

Yes. It's in the Zentradi-Japanese dictionary, and it means, "She of the bad temper and unbelievely large hooters."

Since Alto blew up one of the VF-27 Purple 1 leg, he must return to galaxy for repair, unless he got some spare part smuggled into Frontier, or he cannibalized the other VF-27 for spare part like what Heero did to his Gundam

I want VF-27 toy

3. I think that the little green THREE EYED alien roaming Frontier must have a pretty big connection to the Vajra. Especially since we saw the three eyes glowing at us from the eggs inside the damaged cruiser.

...

A number of people in this thread seem to have made that connection, but I don't think that is correct. Ranka's cellphone is a pretty obvious caricature of whatever kind of animal that is. It's kind of doubtful that baby-vajra themed consumer electronic products are a big commodity on Frontier

Hax!!! VF-27 got 4 engines (2 on wings, 2 on legs), 2 wing cannon, variable gunpod (beam rifle or beam converging cannon) and probably PPB system and BDCS. I demand more B))

Wow... Excellent episode!!! So Grace O'Connor was spying the New United Nations Goverment/Spacy meeting... Wonder what her agenda is? The VF-27 has both the Galaxy and NUNS logos on it... And the voice talking to Brera sounded a lot like Grace's (who happens to come from Galaxy)... Some conspiracy there...

Brera seems to be a baddie... He started attacking Klan trying to kill her so she wouldn't tell about the derelict and the eggs... (He works for Weyland-Yutani!!! Hehehehe). He seems to be skilled, but I believe that it may be because of the VF-27 capabilities above all (he also is overconfident). Even Klan could get a shot at him despite having a less advanced mecha...

And yes... the thing inside the egg in the derelict looked a lot like the little pet Brera had... (Maybe the Large Red Vajra's are born that way...). I believe that Ranka choose the appearance of her cellphone based on a memory of those creatures from her childhood...

Next episode is gonna rock... According to what was said in the news thread

it will be about the production of a movie telling the events of Macross Zero... Ranka will play Mao Nome...

The fact that he went up against 3 fighters, suffered minor damage

Minor damage!? Alto blew off his leg!

That's a bit more than minor...

Though it looks like Mikhail didn't manage to get a good shot in since I couldn't see any damage from his snipe.

And the voice talking to Brera sounded a lot like Grace's (who happens to come from Galaxy)

I stated this earlier under the spoiler tags, but I don't think that's Grace. I compared the voice with the Grace scene early in the episode, and the voice of Brera's boss sounded a bit too deep to be Grace. Sheryl mentions in an earlier episode that Grace has a bad habit of snooping around when given the opportunity, and natural curiosity would more than explain what Grace was doing spying on the meeting. It's a high level briefing regarding the aliens threatening both Galaxy and Frontier. Who WOULDN'T want to listen in?

Natural curiosity might also cause Grace to start focusing in on Leon after the meeting (since he's the one who appears to be responsible for organizing the information on the Vajra), which could lead to some possible revelations...

I always wondered if their small form was literally a clone body or not, apparently it may be..

I don't think it could be, since Clan Clan apparently has some screwy genetic problem that keeps her from shrinking properly. Theoretically, a small clone body couldn't have that sort of problem if the large body didn't have it. Of course, I can't think of ANY form of shrinking and enlarging that would cause Clan Clan's problem.

Edit - And another thing...

Given how casually Brera blows up the derelict ship, it occurs to me that he didn't need to engage Clan Clan when he did. Clan Clan basically watches the dogfight between Brera and the Vajra. And then once the dogfight is over, it's Brera who makes the first move to engage Clan Clan. It seems likely that Brera could have blown up the derelict without Clan Clan being able to do much about it. She might have been able to chase after him, but only after the ship was already gone.

And given how easily Brera disengaged from Alto and Mikhail even after he'd lost an engine, I don't think that Clan Clan would have been able to keep him from leaving, either.

*throttles* YOU'RE THE ONLY ONE WHO HAS SAID ANYTHING!!!!!!!!:ph34r:

No, he's right, character animation was sub par this episode but... who cares! The show is amazing!

Bobby warns him that she's the younger sister of someone very important to him so if the manager neglects her, he's dead. He was also wondering why she's stuck with such a shitty promotion campaign. They put up a site for Ranka, but someone hacked it immediately.

Bobby is the man! Favourite Frontier character. I fear he will die a terrible death...

Here you are other (clearer, even if still blurry) pics of Galaxy insigna on VF27.

Now I'm curious: is there a VF26????

so disappointed in the vf-27, it seems way more advanced than vf-25, but it turns out that 25 is a better fighter overall, just like yf-19 and yf-21, maybe it is because the vf-27 pilot sucks anyway, perhaps he has a "seed" function to make him more powerful? why does the alien chick fight like a newtype? and what fighter does the sniper's sister flight in the flashback?

i totally also think the civil war conspiracy theory is likely, as well as the theory that the vajra are a galaxy experiment gone wrong. my guess is that grace and the galaxy fleet were merely using sheryl as a method to get on board frontier when they did. the galaxy fleet is still missing, it could be that they sent in dulphim and kaitos as decoys. and who ever it was that ordered purple 1 to prevent sms from obtaining samples from the vajra hive ordered him like so "purple 1, prevent the obtaining of samples by destroying the nest at alpha 1104." she makes it sound like she and purple 1 know exactly where the hives are, perhaps because they created the hives themselves. pure speculation on my part, but it seems likely. i still cannot figure out whether leon is in on the conspiracy or not. he is at least aware of the vf-27 as he obviously tried to cover up the leak in the previous episode. but why would he urge the president to find the vajra hive and obtain samples, only to order the vf-27 to destroy the hive and prevent the obtaining of samples? is leon part of the galaxy vf-27 side or isn't he? and where does bilrer and sms fit into all of this? i get the feeling that galaxy are experimenting with the vajra with the desire to develop new technology, and for some reason they are being antagonistic towards frontier. just the feeling i get from watching grace, brera and the vf-27.

Fantastic episode. Great action.

I think it was the usual animation studio (Nara?) on character art duties. The character art look fine to me. Perhaps a little rushed in a couple of scenes, but they definitely captured the established look of the chracters.

Can't wait for the fansub.

notice that the vf-27 took off from Island 3.

is the vf-27 so advanced that it totally does not show up on sensors, or is the Military keeping it secret? Even if it doesn't show on radar, it should be fairly noticable visually - unless everybody is sleeping on their job - what are those escort ships doing...? So it does seem like the military (Leon?) is not only aware of the vf-27 but they are actually the guys behind it. are they in this together with backers of M-Galaxy?

Other stuff related to island 3:

- the captured vajra was kept here.

- the red lobster and small vajra were hiding here in ep 2. (coincidence?)

so there's a good chance that the vf-27 is launching from M-Frontier NUNS facility in Island 3

However, it doesn't seem like the vajra are on the side of Brera's faction, since there's fighting between them too. Brera's faction knows the exact location of the Vajra Hive, maybe even sacrificed that ship for the vajra, which might suggest that Dulfim and maybe even M-Galaxy were to be sacrificed for Vajra hives too?

It seems likely that Brera's faction is conducting experiments/observations on the vajra. which explains why Brera shot the gunpod off Luca's valk in ep 7 to prevent them from doing more damage to the vajra ship.

PS > Brera/Kira Yamato's skills sucks as usual. he just depends on the equipment. :p

kinda let down by brera's crappy skills this ep. doesn't seem too difficult to defeat him

Just because it has more tech doesn't mean it's a better fighter overall. Just like with the Super Nova VFs. While the YF-21 was the one that had more tech, the YF-19 quickly caught up and even overtook it in numbers.

As for the VF-25 and VF-27, it could simply be the case of two different companies achieving the same overall perfromance goals through different means.

besides, this is Macross and MAcross has enver had a tradition of new mecha dominating simply due to technological superiority.

Ok this was a good episode. Good mecha action and good information on two other characters. Adds for more drama later right?

The one thing that actually made me really happy (and I know there will be an angry mob after me for saying this) is that this episode lacked alot of Nanase! Am I the ONLY one that finds her annoying? ^_^

And what is with this Kira Yamato nonsense? If he was a "Kira" than he wouldent have been hit at all! Brera/Harmonica's skill seemed lacking. Or he might have been having too much fun with them. Kira Yamato, he is not. <_< Seriously tho, does Brera look like Kira? If he does, I have been slow and haven't noticed. If anything, he looks like Cagali, THAT I did notice...

I actually liked the VF-25 movements when he was tlaking to Klan. I figured since the EX-gear helps with movement, maybe that helps with that movement VF-25 made. Besides, not like he did a Kabuki pose in the middle of a training/examination exam...

Also recall from the end of episode seven, Brera folded back to Macross F with more than one VF-27. If he is connected to Grace, then the VF-27 squadron may have arrived with the Galaxy Liner when Sheryl arrived at the Macross Frontier. Maybe they are her escort squadron? Perhaps Leon is a Galaxy mole?

Macross Frontier battleroid close contact fighting - melee

is it silly to have melee with large varja , it got 4 hands and a tail, battleroid have two hands, what did that varja do when alto hold his hand, he can use the other hand to crush his canopy or crush his hands or legs. why did they show such crazy things, they should have kicking, head butting, bitting in melee, there is nothing, just waiting for sniper fire? crazy. did you remember the glass chamber, the varja head butt the glass wall. where is that in esp 9?
