A Robotech movie? So it will the bastardization of a bastardization, it will be fun to watch. Let the Robocrap fans swallow that...

Besides, being a Hollywood production, It will be funny to see who they cast, will it be Lindsey Lohan or Paris Hilton for "Lisa"? :lol:

Sounds craptastic!!!

Of all the people that have been hired for this movie so far, how many of them actually care about the material? It's hard to tell if it's genuine or if they are being paid to care about it. In fact, how much do you think they've spent just hiring these guys into the project?

Sorry, but the Japanese film industry sucks. It is amazingly terrible. They might squeeze out a decent film once in a while, but by and large it's in terrible shape and the notion that they'd be able to make a better film than Hollywood is laughable. Sure, but it might appeal to the Japanophiles... but as an actual film it wouldn't be any better than the worst of Hollywood.

depends on what genre u got in mind. i'd prefer japanese dramas ( found them more enjoyable ) than Holywood productions. And we should not forget about that "wasabi", keeping japanese cinema alive. For example, since i was a kid i loved Gojira and i still like to watch those good old movies. check "Ping Pong" or "Adrenaline Drive"... totally different cinema, but that dosen't mean it sucks.

as was mentioned earlier, 2007's Transformers was an eye candy, nothing more. story sucked better than Jenna Jameson at her best years lol. a kid with a transformers friend( ok that sucked less )... optimus and others learning english from the internet ( wtfis that? its like learning japanese from browsing japanese "porn" websites )...no thanks...

some1 also said "macross dont need a live action"... maybe yes / maybe no.

anyways, convos about how low japanese cinema is and how much better usa cinema turning out to be when compared to japanese when it comes to special effects and stuff its like war "Sheryl Fans Vs. Ranka Fans"... leads to nowhere >____>

@topic

time will show... maybe it will turn out like Star Wars - a good kitsch... chances are tiny tho...

@hurin

as you said, we can probably enjoy the "mayhem" part, if they wont f'up VF's designs ><

Geez, sounds some of you just heard about WB's attempt at a live-action RT movie....

I see them going with Miller & Gough for a few reasons. Kasdan hasn't really done much work since 2003. Maguire worked with the 2 on Spiderman 2 and that turned out well so why not. WB has plenty of experience with the two due to Smallville. Whether or not this works out is up in the air. WB may be trying to get as many ideas out there and picking the best of the bunch.

Wow. Way to be a racist. The idea that there are no good films made by countries other than America is ludicrous.

Nah, that's not racist. There's plenty of Japanese people working for Hollywood in various capacities. He said the Japanese film industry sucks, that's no more racist than saying Hollywood (aka the American film industry) sucks.

Edit - A racist argument would have been "Japanese people suck. They can't make movies." He clearly was talking about a business, not the people.

"Sure, but it might appeal to the Japanophiles... " is the offensive part.

A case of the truth being somewhere in the middle. The Japanese film industry is small and well past it's golden age when it spawned Kurosawa. However, the Japanese film industry is still producing notable cinema of internationally recognized quality. Japan's industry in particular is currently being tapped by Hollywood, so I wouldn't jump on the "Japan film sucks" bandwagon because they aren't a blockbuster player internationally. All the Japanese modern horror classics are remade into Hollywood films and I don't need to remind most here that we appear on the cusp of an anime live-action adaptation "raping" (couldn't resist, mate) :)

Latin American cinema is another of Hollywood's taps currently turned on full, though many are enjoying the benefits of that. Latin American directors are all the rage in Hollywood right now, with many directors currently enjoying successful big budget careers in Hollywood including Iñárritu, Cuarón and del Toro. But the Hong Kong industry and Korean film industry are also targets for distribution and remakes. I'd even go so far as to say the adaptations/remakes of foreign cinema in general is a substantial contributor to sustaining Hollywood. The new base of domestic reality-driven cinema is proving quite successful as is the home-grown superhero genre, but foreign cinema is accounting for an increasing greater portion of bankable productions and more importantly a serious influx of creative innovation. For every new film Hollywood puts out, it seems they are making a Criminal or a The Departed, a Ring or a Vanilla Sky. Hell, I just read today that Spielberg and Will Smith have dug their claws into a remake of Chan-wook Park's Oldboy. I kid you not :)

yeah, we've been talking about the old boy remake in the remake thread, this in addition to the charlize theron remake of Sympathy for Lady Vengeance.

There's plenty of good Japanese films, their avant garde and more idiosyncratic films like Taste of Tea are very good... it's just that their horror films and cheese action/gore films get more press and fanboy attention.

Are audiences too sophisticated these days for human-like aliens? In canon Robotech, if I'm not mistaken, there's no reason the Robotech Masters (and their creation the Zenraedi) have nearly identical gene structurs to humans right? It's just one big universal happy coincidence? Wouldn't audiences have a hard time these days buying off on something like that? I'm guessing if the aliens in this movie are going to be anything like the Zentraedi than the writers are going to have to come up with a reason why they so closely resemble man.

Actually depends on which verison of the Robotech Canon, they do talk in the Macross Saga about potentially having a comon ancestry... and in Macek's original plan for Robotech 3 the SDF-3 would have traveled back in time and the survivors would have eventually become the Robotech Masters.

Hmm, good choice for the ladies i guess, better than bloody Tobey as Rick, so maybe he'll be Max????

Roy? :lol:

Actually, to keep up with the times, Max is going to be female now. Don't worry the character's still one with the ladies... B))

Hideaki Anno has turned out nothing but live action gold. Love & Pop, Shikijitsu, & Cutie Honey were all awesome, and who better to work on a live action Macross.

It'll be painful to see how the Zentradi are going to be treated in the film(s). They might get the shaft to make room for other aliens. Peace and race aren't strong points in the franchise.

Battlefield Earth comes to mind..

Well Battlefield Earth had a horrible director, terrible music. A fraudelently over-stated budget, and of course it's a thinly veiled propaganda movie for Scientology. Why are we comparing it to Robotech?

John Travolta as Breetai? :huh:

Maybe because it's an example of how giant humanoid aliens who fight humans flying fighter planes has been portrayed in hollywood in the past? :)

oh god, I blocked most of that movie out... I remember them raiding fort knox and wondering why they didn't see the red line marking the state border when they crossed over.

How big were the aliens in it again? I thought they were taller then humans but not Zentraedi sized.
