Mospeada Djinshi

Recommended Posts

I've seen this on Yahoo Japan twice. I was unemployed when I first saw this over 3 years ago and its taken me this long to track down another. That makes this about as hard to track down as any resin kit I've gone after.

My aim is to scan the entire thing and share it here. Don't worry, I'll post the pages as links. And I'll add to this list as I get the pages scanned in.

Enjoy,

Carl

P.S. I'm running on a new PC with Vista. I just installed my scanners drivers today and scanned the above images. It was then that I noticed that Internet Explorer had stopped working. I had to restore things to the point before my scanner's drivers were installed to get it working again. So I can't say for sure when I'll get the rest of it up. It will be 70 images total and even with a working scanner I'd likely not get them all done in one sitting. So... any volunteers in helping me get this thing translated?

P.S.S. Final update to this post...

ALL DONE!!! Enjoy and get busy translating!!!

You rock. Plain and simple.

Thanks for sharing, and sorry I can't help with the translation.

You are very welcome. I've now got the correct drivers for my scanner and have both it and IE working at the same time now. I've just added pages 5 through 10 to my first post above. I'll try to post a handful of pages each day if I have time.

Enjoy,

Carl

Nice, so is this mainly that background story on the ride armors?

I think its something along those lines. I can't read Japanese so I'm not 100% certain. I hope to be able to find another fan willing to help with the translation and if so I'd be happy to share that here as well.

Here is the Yahoo Japan auction that I won:

If you can't access closed auctions, here is the bid history from that auction:

Anyone know who the other bidders were? I'd be happy to share with them as well. If someone wants to send them a message through Yahoo Japan and point them here feel free. I think that's possible. Maybe one of them could help us translate it.

You are welcome,

Carl

Dude, that cover pic is awesome on its own! The right half of the chest lifts up as well as the forearm armor to enable greater freedom of movement. Sweet! I always thought some thing that big would limit finer motions. This gets around the bulkiness of the armor.

On page 21, is that an HBT fuel tank?

No, it's the engine block of the VR-052 type.

Earlier pages which appeared to use photo reference (why they all looked like dirtbikes) was okay, but the later stripped down to frame images are veeeery nice indeed.

Carl has graciously agreed to allow me to post my Mospeada related pics in this thread so here goes:

This is from OUT Magazine Jan. 1984 which features Mospeada on the cover:

This first page has an interesting chart of the attack waves. I would love to get this translated. Also there is some cool color concept art and an SD Ride Armor:

Here is close up view of that SD Ride Armor :)

Totoro, those are awesome, thanks for posting those!

In the Imai material I brought back from Japan, I have at least one of those smaller pics at the bottom (the one showing the Legioss with "SATAN SQUADRON" and Devilman on the booster) in black and white. I also have the same map showing the attack but it's handwritten, and again, like most of the other sheets, black and white.

The general jist is that it gives the details of the second drop operation, the one shown in the first episode. Obviously, the green ball is Earth, the red one is Mars, and the large arrows show how the three fleets jointed up - the Jupiter one (lower left) and the one from the other colonies (upper left) join up with the Mars fleet, and they're also joined by more ships from other colonies in earth orbit (upper right). They attack Earth, and then the surviving flagships (giggle) head back to Mars.

Something weird in the sketch I have: it calls the Invid carriers "Shellpacks" instead of "Shelldoors."

I love that SD Ride Armor. It remides me of this image I pulled off Yahoo Japan back in 2004.

All I have is the image. Anyone know the source?

Here is another image I like.

and again I'm not sure of the source at the moment. I got it here:

just now.

The pumped-up MOSPEADA that Exo posted is one of a few mecha designs that were created after the show started airing (see the date at the bottom). They were never animated or realized in toy or model form, but it seems the idea behind them was to help the manufacturers sell you the same kit/toy with a few new parts, like the Super Valkyrie. "Malibu Stacey with a new hat."

I found eight of these late designs among the Imai stuff, four armor suits and four battroids, including the one Exo posted and this one:

NICE!!!! I like... I like alot!!!! By "I found" are you saying you are Roger Harkavy? Are the 6 pieces in Super7 Magazine issue #15 the other 6? I.e. with EXO's and the one in your link is that ALL 8? Any chance you'd make your copywrite band across that image smaller? I'd like to see the feet.

Looks like I have an issue I NEED to pick up. Oh... and one other question. If you found these 8 pieces may I ask when you found them? EXO's image was posted back in 2004.

Thanks,

Carl

P.S. Ok... I lied... one MORE question... I see your link mentions "Roger Harkavy at Super7 Magazine". May I ask what your position there is? This issue #15, which I just ordered, here:

http://super7store.com/magazine/current_issue.php

seems to have pictures of many old Mospeada toys. I also see phrases like "showcasing the latest toys, art and design contrasted with the greatest toys of yesteryear." You should have asked me about this:

http://www.macrossworld.com/mospeada/tread_toy.htm

It looks like it would have been a PERFECT fit.
