I got to meet and shake hands with Pres.GW Bush on one of his many trips to MCAS Miramar back in 2003.

Another famous (but regional) person I met was Roger Craig of 1980's 49er fame. Ran into him back in 1991 or 1992. In our town, there was a big Open Martial Arts Tournament. Roger Craig's daughter was in the tournament from what he said. I know that in those years, it was a different time for him from the 49er days, but he definitely still had the NFL physique. My friend's dad rushed home to get a Roger Craig Football Card so that he could autograph it for his son. The guy was real cool.

Other famous persons I ran into was waaaayy back in the day. Back in the late 80's... 1987, IIRC. My uncle took us to a baseball game at the Oakland Coloseum. It was my first time at a pro-ballgame and loved the experience. The cool thing was that it was when Jose Canseco and Mark McGwire were being known as the "Bash Brothers." Both Canseco and McGwire were still quite early in their careers, and IIRC, McGwire was a rookie. After the game, Canseco was an absolute a** with fans. Mark McGwire on the other hand was very great with the fans. Stayed late to sign tons of autographs and for photo ops. I know McGwire has recent problems lately, but the only thing that keeps me from tossing him into the cesspool of other big baseball stars was that he was ALWAYS good with the fans at Oakland. Even when he had his health problems in his last years with Oakland, I still was a big fan of the guy.

The last thing I have isn't "meeting" someone famous, but only by association. My birthday is February 6. I found out when I was a kind in the 80s that it was the same as President Reagan Back in the 80s, that was d*mn cool!

Okay time to share some of my amazing real life experiences

Spent about twenty minutes in an hour with the mother from "Growing Pains". This back in the day when the show was a hit. I had some sorta inter-ear infection made a trip to Kaiser. She was taking her daughter to the pediatrician at the same time. Rode in the same elevator up and down then waited in pharamacy. No one said "hi" her daughter looked she had the flu. You don't approach someone in situation like that besides didn't really care the show. If was too say anything it would had been something like "What's a Boner?"

My Brother and I found ourselves next to this guy while shopping for pens in NYC. He had no problems taking a photo with us. Surprisingly and stupidly we forgot to ask for a autograph...in a pen store none the less.

Oh, and we bumped into Jason Alexander in a magic shop in Vegas.

I met Lou Reed while working at a RadioShack in Boston, sold him some cables he needed for his concert that night.

Later on when they shifted me to a store downtown I met General Wes Clark at a book signing during the Democratic National Convention.    That same week I also spotted Hilary Clinton with fellow NY Senator Chuck Schumer, and Ben Affleck.  A week later I saw Steven King leaving a book signing at the same store I met Gen. Clark.

Since moving to SF the only person I've met is Bill Simmons, and had him sign a copy of his new book for my fiance (she a huge Red Sox fan and reads his column on ESPN.com religiously).

I've met three famous people that I can remember:

I met Harry Shearer once at a Colegiate Associated Press conference in Seattle. He was there to promote his new movie "A Mighty Wind" -- they showed the film for us, probably expecting us to give them a good review ( I was writing for the Oregon Daily Emerald at the time). He was signing autographs for people outside the theater that they showed the movie, and I ws one of those who got his autograph.

At Anime Expo this year, I also got to meet both Noboru Ishiguro and Vic Mignogna , and got both of them to sign my copy of Perfect Memory.

i shook vice president dan quayle's hand a long time ago when i was a youngster, um, maybe i shouldnt count that one. I am going to a Q&A staring the one and only Kevin Smith in a month so i am sure to meet him, and hopefiully get an autograph. Since i am an aspiring filmmaker he is one of the people i look up to and respect. Clerks 2 is the movie of the year, followed closely by Pirates 2, and Snakes On A Plane (just because of the name i saw that it is one of the best this year)

I have a friend who works at a fashion boutique in Beverly Hills. She told me that on her day off, Britney Spears shopped at the store. According to her co-workers, she was drunk as a skunk and couldn't figure out where her friends were (they were actually right next to her).

As a kid, I met Mike Singletary at a (movie) theater. He sat in front of me, one seat over.

Said hi to Paul Newman at a theater (plays type) in Canada.

Both were friendly guys.

As a kid, when I was about 10 or 12, I used to see former NASCAR driver Wendell Scott on a regular basis. Wendell's youngest son Frank is a friend of the family, and was a teacher and coach at my local high school; so when we went to the varsity basketball games every week, we'd see his father Mr. Scott. I was just an ignorant kid, to me he was just "Mr. Scott." I had no idea that he was Wendell Scott, the race car driver that Richard Pryor had played in the movie; I had even seen Greased Lightning on TV a few times. Wendell was Coach Scott's biggest fan and supporter, and I don't think he ever missed a home game, at least prior to his illness/failing health. You could count on him being in the stands, just a few rows behind the coaches' bench. So of course when we'd go to the games we'd of course speak and chat: "hey Coach Scott," and likewise we'd say hi to his dad. He would always give a smile and a hello, or a wave. Stupid kid, I never even guessed he was a race car driver--one of the race car drivers, as far as I'm concerned. If only I'd known then what I know now; I would have loved to have gone up and sat with him in the stands and talked with him, asked him about all his racing days and experiences. Alas, the ignorance of youth! I guess if there's a moral, it's: folks, you really ought to pay a little more attention and respect to your elders every now and then. You never know just what knowledge they might have to impart, what tales they may be able to share, what wonderful experiences they still remember...

Austin isn't LA or NYC, but we get a lot of them in town for SXSW and other film and music festivals. Dennis Quaid, Sandra Bullock, et al are regulars at a restaurant my younger brother used to sous chef at.

Notables:

Micky Rourke and his bodyguard (as if he needed one) nearly knocked me over trying to hail a cab on 6th Street a few years ago.

You see Lance Armstrong here and there. It's actually pretty casual and low key about it here - no one hassles them and gives them their space.

Oh - the one time I was really kind of star struck was after bumping into George-Frickin'-Lucas in the hotel lobby of the Hilton in downtown San Francisco. I said "how's it goin' man" as he walked by maybe 3 feet away from me. I had had a few beers by then so I wasn't really sure it was even him until we were chatting up some of the waitresses in the lobby bar later and they confirmed he was staying there that weekend.

i hung out with stan lee and mark hamill after a panel at comicon. we had a pretzel and a soda. it was neato. then i got to chat with ray harryhausen for a bit over at the gentlegiant booth he signed my sketchbook and he said he liked my mechanical designs alot. and at that point i damn near crapped myself. his assisstant kept trying to say he needed to get back to the signings but he shooed him off and went over my stuff with me.

Joe Genaro: Guitarist for The Dead Milkmen. Was penpals with him since I saw them live when I was 12 in '87 (my first concert).

I've inadvertently hung with Blink 182 backstage while trying to leave the venue through the wrong exit. Ended up hanging and drinking beers for about 30 minutes before my buddies flipped and wanted to leave.

Saw one of my favorite bands. Samiam, when I lived in Madison, Wisconsin. Drank lots of beer, chatted with Jason, the lead singer, and eventually we drove around town at 3 in my car at the morning hitting up afterbars.

John Stewart was in town (once again, Madison) doing a little stand-up tour during for Comedy Central during which they would show a little known cartoon called "Jesus vs. Santa." Anyhow, Mr. Stewart was spending the night prior to the show at The Corner Room, where varous patrons slobbered over a slightly familiar famous person. From one table over I intoned, quite drunk and rather loudly, that If I had ever gottena comedy show on MTV, it wouldn't have sucked. He heard this, chuckled, and raised his glass to me. I eventually went over, said "Hi", he said "Your an ass", then we laughed together and chatted for a while on the state of stand-up. He's a great guy.

I've hung with The Vandals. Lagwagon, Face to Face, Jawbreajer, The Lawrence Arms and a bunch of other bands you've probably never heard of. It's always special to me.

My wife has met Seal and my Dad used to jog with Muhammed Ali in the 70's. No kidding.

I've met two members from the rap group De La Soul, Rev. Run from Run DMC, and Vinnie from Naughty by Nature back in the nineties when I was living in the NY. Jim Lee signed my Heroes Reborn Fantastic Four no.1 and 2 comics. He even let me sketch a little on his Jublilee drawing; that was pretty cool.

I met Jim Lovell at some conference about a year or two after the Apollo 13 movie came out. I don't remember exactly what the conference was for, but it was really cool to speak with him in person, particularly with the movie still fairly recent. It was also interesting hearing his comments about the movie. Aside from the obvious Hollywood dialog, the only things in the movie that weren't factual were the fact that the three of them never argued while they were up there, and never blamed Jack Swigert for anything that happened. He also had some funny stories about working with Tom Hanks before the filming, since Lovell hadn't seen anything Hanks had done in the last couple years before the filming started (Forrest Gump). So as the two of them were talking about the last movie Hanks had done, Lovell was getting this picture in his head of Forrest Gump floating up there in space instead of him.

I've met a few celebs. As of recent, I met Chris Cornell of the late Audio Slave at the Mercedes Benz Dealership I used to work at. I met the Spin Doctors band when my band opened up for them at the Key Club in Hollywood, I also met Jennifer Lopez before she got hooked up with P-Diddy back in the day at her first album release party. Believe it or not, I hung out with Chris Tucker and Mark Wahlberg when going to Tu-Pacs B-day party a long, long time ago. I was dating a girl who worked for Interscope Records, and so, some perks came with that. As of late, not any though.
