Fanime Con 2005

Recommended Posts

I'll definantly be going with my younger cousin this year but for one day(saturday only) . Oh well. But one day is better than none! Plus Fanime was the first con i ever attended(sweet memories sigh). It would definantly be a plus for me to meet a fellow MWer in person and make my one day trip all the more worth while.

I did. It was a 180 for a 1/48 Hikaru(can't remember if it was a S or a J) and I think 220 for a Milia Fast Pack set. They wanted 400+ for a low viz. There was a guy in the swap meet that was selling an open MPC Rick, a Fire and Blazer Valk, and a VF-11 for 35 bucks each. I was leaning towards the VF-11, but he said that both legs had broken off when it and the Rick fell off a shelf recently. He did a nice repair job on it, but I wanted to check the dealers room for other Valks, and funds were too limited to consider damaged merchandise. Especially sine I couldn't get online to check. In retrospect, I probablt should have got it. Not that it mattered, someone bought it when I came back later. Of course, I found a new one for 70(the swap meet guy was certain they went for over a hundred, though he wasn't sure).

All in all, I got some nice things at the con, but no really good deals Macross wise except for some 9 dollar Misa and Minmay figures I passed on. I need to do some more price research before I hit AX in a month.

1 of the girls dressed as a race queen handing out the form when u get in lineto get in was a hottie. Linda Tran was lookin good too. made my entrance fee worth it. she was hella cool. very nice. it was sad that her booth had a lack of people. guess the otaku just arent into hot models. actually, i guess that was a good thing. cause me and my friend were able to talk to her for a good 15 mins without anyone bothering us. we coulda talked longer, but we wanted to check the place out. she sure looked lonely as we left her cause wasnt NOBODY NEAR her booth.

Prices were the usual (expensive) this year. If you want deals, ya gotta look around though.

I picked up a Yamato 1/48 fast packs set on Saturday for only $30!

Also picked up some of the old Macross 15th Anniversary Arii figures for only $3 each. Damn i remember years ago those going for at least $15 each, $3 is a steal!

Also picked up the trailor for 20th Anniversary Optimus Prime.

Oh yeah, a 1/72 Hasegawa VF-1A Super for $10.

Plus I am the one that got the Macross Plus VF-11b, MPC Rick, & Original Bandai Macross 7 Blazer Valks (Blue & Red) from the Swap Meat. He was as asking $35 each, but worked out a deal for em all. He is going to meet me later on this week to give me the boxes for all of them since he didn't bring them to the con. A swell guy!

So over all, i came away with a good stash.

I was the most happy getting 1/48 Super/Strike parts for only $30 and it was brand new. If he had more, i would have wiped him out.

hongkongbeef, got any pics? As for otakus not liking hot chicks, it depends... some are so obsessive about acetate girls or CG girls, they miss out on reality.

fansubs2000, good finds! Did you see good Macross cels there? I know AnimEd and his wife were there but I checked w/him beforehand, he had squat. Thanks.

Ahh, so you're the one. At least it went to a fellow MW member. I was actually in the room when you were buying them. I'd ask how much you payed, but I'm not sure I wanna. ;)

I got some nice figurines though, and some good VHS deals I woudn't have gotten had I bought them though, so I'm happy. If anything, I'm probably more peeved at not getting a Scrapped Princess T-shirt(though if they were all L like the auction ones, that too no longer matters).

Yeah the skinnier one in the race queen costume was cute. I remember walking by Linda Tran and saying hi for a little bit. She is really pretty but I think a lot of people were intimidated to talk to her, or they weren't that impressed with a soft porn model. It funny because at a comic convention I went to, guys were all over this one porn stars' booth, but at the anime convention it was relatively empty. LoL maybe if she dressed up as Lunamaria then she would be swamped (gotta play to right audience here!) I'll post some pictures later... I didn't get as many this time.
