I like the Bee Gees.

Those guys had chicks unlimited in the 70s.

And they probably had an unlimited amount of men as well ...lol

Well... it was the 70's... who knows?

But I doubt it. Barry's a ladies' man, through and through. The other two... not so sure about.

Nah, all those guys are straight, as far as I know.

Well, when I was a kid, I used to love Bon Jovi. Then I grew up on hair metal. My favorites were always Def Leppard, Queensryche, and the sadly short-lived T-Ride. Honorable mentions go to Blue Murder and John Norum's first album.

About the only two 70's bands I've ever really been into were Kiss and Boston.

Music's been on the decline since the mid 90's, in my book. I'm finding it harder and harder to find a CD I like, since a lot of it is mass-produced pop and R&B. The only one bad I can definatively say for sure that I think is really good anymore is The Juliana Theory. Although, I am starting to check out Jimmy Eat World.

I have to say that I do like techno, but here's the thing... only compilations. It seems like ever techno act out there does two songs I hate for every one I like. That said, my favorite techno groups are Orbital and Elite Force.

Seems like you can't watch anime without ever getting into jpop... so I might as well say my favorite jpop groups/singers include Melody, BoA, M-Flo, Yamamoto Ryohei, M-Flo, Globe, and Every Little Thing.

Somewhere along the line (maybe because I got sick of everyone thinking jpop meant either Utada Hikaru or Hamasaki Ayumi), I branched out into Korean. Even though they had some boy band elements, I liked HOT, Shinhwa, and NRG, as well as BoA (again), Lee Jung Hyun, and S#arp.

Man what I listen to is pretty messed up.

CD's I have anygiven day

Johnny Cash

AC/DC

Aerosmith

Johnny Horton

Ashlee Simpson

various J-pop

Alan Jackson

Dropkick Murphy's

U2

Britney Spears

Beethoven

Bolero

Metallica

Waylan Jennings

I generally listen to anything if it has most if not all the following

good beat

a storyline

great melody

I hate groups that sound like crap smashing together (anything WBCN plays for the most part) And groups that seem to have to hate someone or thing to be popular (greenday) or groups with a political agenda (greenday) or american idiots that hate war yet somehow get stuck in a warzone in africa for a benefit gig for a dictator (greenday)

someone should tell greenday the election is over and they lost so shut up and deal with it.

Then why do you like U2? They have a political agenda..

I already listed my favs on the other page..ya know Pantera, Iron Maiden, Slayer, Lamb of god, Shadows Fall, Machine Head etc...main stream music sucks and Dave Mustaine from Megadeth is a douchebag.

Their "Love" CD kicks ass.... I've got some of their other stuff, but it doesn't seem to do much for me.

Jeleinen, thanks for the correction... I've NEVER known the true name of that song...

Not as much as the Village People, though. But then again, Judas Priest makes both the Bee Gees and Village People look straight.

.

I know this sounds gay, but I also love the Go Go's; I actually got to meet Jane Wiedlin backstage at one of their last concerts together at Irvine Meadows back in '84. She was friggin' beautiful.

I used to like Belinda Carlisle when she went solo.

Despite being a fan of hair metal, I also liked the Go-Go's and the Bangles. Other than that, I was also a fan of Roxette back in the '80s.

And people thought I was nuts when I listened to Debbie Gibson back then...

Wait a minute! How could we forget these guys? They practically make Michael Jackson look manly.

I can’t live without your love and affection

I can’t face another night on my own

I’d give up my pride to save me from being alone

‘Cause I can’t live without your love...

Thought that was Sum 41 (no love lost on those guys) but if not, Jesus, that's pretty lame.

LOL. Could be.

Actually, they're Matthew and Gunnar Nelson, sons of the late pop legend Ricky Nelson. Back in 1990, the brothers (collectively known as Nelson back then) scored their first and only #1 single, "(Can't Live Without Your) Love and Affection." After their debut CD After the Rain, the band went nowhere with a string of flops. And like most washed-up rock bands, the Nelson Brothers spent a great deal of their career in Japan.

Today, they're on tour, performing at casinos in the U.S. and Canada. Talk about a messed-up music career...

At least until quite recently, one of those chumps was living in Nashville and kept hitting on the bass player of my niece's godfather's band. She (the bass player, not my niece) would just blow him off, but it was amusing to see.

Lowdown

It's hard to believe that 25 years and 10 albums have passed since the British rock band Def Leppard made their presence known in the music industry. In 1980, the band released their debut album On Through the Night. But it wasn't until 1981, when Robert John "Mutt" Lange stepped in to produce their second album High 'N' Dry, resulting in the band's trademark music style of harmonious guitars and vocals.

Two years later, in 1983, Pyromania was unleashed, eventually selling over 13 million copies worldwide. But before Def Leppard could finish recording a follow-up album, tragedy struck in late 1984, when drummer Rick Allen lost his left arm in a car accident. Many thought the band was doomed, but Allen proved the skeptics wrong when he managed to play drums live with only one arm.

In 1987, the band released Hysteria, launching them into superstardom with over 16 million copies sold across the globe, backed by seven chart hits including the top-5 singles "Pour Some Sugar on Me," "Armageddon It" and the #1 power ballad "Love Bites." No other hair metal band (not even Bon Jovi) has achieved as much success in the '80s as Def Leppard.

But as Def Leppard reached the pinnacle of their career, tragedy struck once again in 1991. Guitarist Steve Clark died as a result of overdosing alcohol with painkillers. Still, the band managed to complete their 1992 multi-platinum CD Adrenalize in memory of Clark. Vivian Campbell (formerly with Dio and Whitesnake) stepped in to replace Clark, and since then, the band never looked back.

To commemorate the band's achievements over the past two decades, a new two-disc compilation CD has been released. Much like the 2004 international release Best of, Rock of Ages is an updated version of Def Leppard's 1995 greatest hits CD Vault. Relive the school days of banging your head and playing air guitar once you pop each disc in your stereo. And while you're at it, check out the booklet, which includes liner notes that tell about each song.

If you grew up listening to hair metal, then Rock of Ages is a mandatory add-on to your CD library. First-time listeners will also want to pick this up to sample the ultimate Def Leppard experience.

And to believe Mariah Carey actually covered one of their songs...

Rating: A+

Good stuff Keats.

Highlights from my ridiculously obsessive music collection -

Modern/College Rock:

Uncle Tupelo, Wilco, Son Volt, Elliott Smith, Pernice Brothers, Gomez, Ryan Adams, White Stripes, Beck, Flaming Lips, Ben Harper, Seal, Chris Isaak, Hem, Death Cab for Cutie, the Shins, the Thrills, the Darkness, the Killers, Chemical Bros, Kings of Leon, Cake, Weezer, They Might Be Giants, Travis, Coldplay, Radiohead, Radiohead, and more Radiohead.

Classics:

Queen, Led Zeppelin, Beatles, Who, Mellencamp, Black Crowes, Pink Floyd, Hendrix, Van Morrison, Clapton, Elton John, Red Hot Chili Peppers, REM, CCR, GnR, Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Soundgarden, Neil Young, CSN, NIN, U2, and anything by Paul Simon.

Eclectic:

John Coltrane (anything with McCoy Tyner on keys), Bela Feck, Strength in Numbers, Edgar Meyer, loads and loads of 70's and 80's one hit wonders, Hank Williams SENIOR, Johnny Cash, Some various Grateful Dead, Phish, and Widespread Panic that I enjoyed in college, tons of various techno/DJ stuff I've picked up in clubs after college, and the occasional masterful tune by Neil Diamond.

There are many, many, many things I'm leaving out.  There is also a reason why I have 2000 CDs, 160 GB of music on my computer, and 39.5 of my 40 GB used on my 40GB iPod.  :)

Abandoned Shopping Trolley Hotline is the poo.

I'm still saddened over Elliott Smith.

Take Blaine's first part, combine with some of the second part, add some Ayumi Hamasaki, The Smashing Pumpkins, and Jeff Buckley, and you pretty much have my list.

Wow, Vivian Campbell has been in the band longer than Steve Clark was?!? Man time flies...

Yeah, I know. The last DL CD I got was Vault back in '95. I missed out on their last three CDs - Slang (1996)*, Euphoria (1999)** and X (2002)*** - because I was concentrating more on collecting anime. However, I will pick up those CDs later next month.

* Slang received mixed reviews mainly because it just didn't sound like Def Leppard. It sounded too much like light grunge. In the Rock of Ages liner notes, Joe explained that the album was released during the band's darkest times.

** Euphoria won back many of the lost fans, as it revived the band's trademark music style from the days of Pyromania and Hysteria.

*** While Slang was grunge-like, X sounded rather too pop-like. But then again, that's what happens when you get the same production team that worked with Britney Spears and the Backstreet Boys.

C'mon dude, you like Def Leppard.

Def Leppard kicked ass.

And like most washed-up rock bands, the Nelson Brothers spent a great deal of their career in Japan.

While those "washed-up" rock bands went on to continue their careers in Japan and Europe, we traded hair bands for rap in the US... talk about getting the bum end of the stick...

Technically rap was around at the same time as hair bands... it's just that while rap went "gangsta" hair bands went grunge. Then grunge went industrial/techno and then it went metal and now it's this weird sort of alterna-pop.

I myself hate "gangsta" rap but in the late '80s / early '90s when in the army I was in an almost all black platoon and I grew very fond of that era's hip hop. It was after that that rap became all about popin' caps in people and gang bangin'... before that it was fairly neat. I think that is why to this day I like crossover bands like Outkast and the Gorillaz.
