  1. If this fails, I'll just close it. Board rules still apply. Anubis is running the show for me here. He will be reporting to the mods if things get out of hand. Til then; have fun! To start things off.... Like Cats, but have allergies? Have one engineered!
  2. After watching the Falcon Heavy launch today I was curious if anyone else here watched it, then I realized that I didn't see any dedicated threads for NASA & SpaceX here on MW. Any thing you want to post whether it's the most modern news from NASA, SpaceX, the European Space Agency, etc. too the Moon landings, Gemini & Space Shuttle missions, feel free to post here.
  3. Ever more, sci-fi is becoming sci-fact. The European Space Agency have successfully put the Philae lander on the surface of the 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko Comet after 10+ years of travel aboard the Rosetta spacecraft. It's an amazing accomplishment for them, and ultimately mankind, certainly worthy of discussion, as well as contemplation of what me might learn, and where the future lies for further exploration.
  4. Is it just me or does the Mayan birdman/protoculture genesis theory from Macross Zero sound a lot like the ancient astronaut theory pitched in the history channel's shows Ancient Aliens and In Search of Aliens? Don't get me wrong, I don't subscribe to it. It's just scifi to me at this point. The parallelism is just interesting.
  5. There's no sense of scale but this booster is as high as a 10 storey building. It balances by using a closed-loop thrust vectoring system. SpaceX are working towards a simple reusable launch vehicle that could (unlike the complex and costly shuttle) reduce spaceflight costs by a huge amount ... Elon Musk also recently outlined a realistic plan for the colonisation of Mars http://www.space.com...-elon-musk.html
  6. http://www.slashgear.com/nasa-unveils-valkyrie-robot-for-darpa-robotics-challenge-11308358/ I wonder if the one who came up with the name is reading this forum, or should I look for then on robotech.com ?
  7. An international team of scientists found a record-breaking three potentially habitable planets around the star Gliese 667C, a star 22 light-years from Earth that is orbited by at least six planets, and possibly as many as seven, researchers said. The three planet contenders for alien life are in the star's "habitable zone" the temperature region around the star where liquid water could exist. Gliese 667C is part of a three-star system, so the planets could see three suns in their daytime skies. Artists impression showing the view from the exoplanet Gliese 667Cd looking toward the planets parent star (Gliese 667C). In the background to the right the more distant stars in this triple system (Gliese 667A and Gliese 667B) are visible and to the left in the sky one of the other planets, the newly discovered Gliese 667Ce, can be seen as a crescent. A record-breaking three planets in this system are super-Earths lying in the zone around the star where liquid water could exist, making them possible candidates for the presence of life.
