  2. I'm kinda sad that Southern Cross is not much loved by anyone from both sides of the Pacific ocean. Anyone has any idea if this TV series is a big flop in Japan when it was originally released? I mean, we know Macross is huge, even before the Macross Plus revival, with tonnes of toys made for it, and Mospeada is currently enjoying a nice revival in the toys re-release. But I am doubtful if I remember seeing toys in Japan for Southern Cross in the original 80s release, and even more doubtful if any toys will be re-released in the near future. I hope anyone can provide info if this series is really a flop back then, and why so. Many thanks. p.s. I don't mean Jeanne released as Dana Sterling on a vacuum cleaner in the 'Robotech' toyline in USA. I mean Jeanne released as Jeanne in Japan. And I don't remember seeing any Bioroid released either. Correct me please if I'm wrong. Thanks. p.p.s. What I really really want to find is the song CD of the show. They're hauntingly beautiful (the ending song, and the Zor song of the flower legend. And not to sound blasphemous on a Macross forum, but imo, I think they're even more beautiful than the Macross songs) nb: Found this in wiki: The three titles share some of the same creators, and Macross is referenced by character cameos and inside references by the latter two series. However, the basic stories are unrelated. Southern Cross was the least successful of the Super Dimensional banner and was actually cancelled due to low ratings, forcing the scriptwriters to hastily conclude the series. No wonder the last episode always felt rushed, trying to tie all the loose ends in the last episode #23. sigh...
  3. Happy New Year 2022, y'all! Hopefully everyone had a happy, restful and safe holiday season, because I'm about to be a pain in your butt... Or rather, wallet. As promised back in Spring of last year, I'm offering the Biopsycher Bioroid (hereafter HEMORROID) as a follow-up kit to last year's 1/48 BIO LLOYD. This kit, unlike the Bio-Lloyd, will include a cockpit ball, and will include both pistols featured with the Bio, but with corrected details for the officer's version (Thanks to Ted E.) The kit will be available in 2 versions: -HEMORROID/BUG FACE only (no sled) -HEMORROID/BUG FACE W/HOVER-SLED Please take note: the BUG FACE parts will only be available for the pre-order window Looking to get 30 orders, so who's in?
  4. 1/6 Dana Sterling (Robotech Masters) / Jeanne Fránçaix (Southern Cross)

  6. Captain’s Log: Friday, October 10th. Southern-Cross garage kits are among the rarest of the rare, assuming there are any out there at all. A while back, I was approached by a fellow MWer about mastering the patterns for the Bioroid drop-ship. It seemed like it would be a fun project, so I gladly accepted. So as with all projects, I begin by drafting some basic technical drawings from which I can carve parts. As is to be expected from line-art of that by-gone era, the different views of the ship don’t even correspond with each other, and this case is a particularly bad one! So after a bit of back_&-forth with the client, I finalize the diagrams and can now begin making a mess in my workshop! I had a block of modeling board, but the edges were rough so I had to mill it down to create some square edges. The block is so large that I had to get « creative » just to be able to work on it (pic 1) Now I have drawings, style-sheet reference, and a block of modeling board: watch me turn this block into a finished set of masters in 30 days or less! (pic 2) Pic 3: the block is so large that it just barely fits under the bandsaw at maximum clearance: problematic, but not insurmountable. We will take the long road… Pic 4: I use my trusty drill press with a cutting wheel mounted. Since I can’t cut all the way through such a large part, I settle for notching the cut mark all around the part. Pic 5: time to break-out the hack-saw and manually cut the board! It’s a long, tedious process, but it must be done. Pic 6: the cut came out a lot rougher than I would have liked, but no worries. Back to the drill press, this time using a grinding stone to level the surface of the cut and make it perfectly flat. Pic 7: there were still some nasty saw-marks in the board, even after the grinding. To avoid removing too much (very expensive) material, I just use some polyester putty to cover the scars. Easy-peasy! Pic 8: now that I have smaller parts, I can cut them on the bandsaw to remove excess material and begin to shape the parts accordingly. Pic 9: after some grinding and sanding, the parts are starting to come along. I will likely want to fiddle with some of the details as I go along, simply because the line-art is so loosey-goosey and there’s leeway for tweaking to get the coolest looking shapes possible. Stay tuned!
  7. Good Day Folks I am in discussion with Captain America about making a model of the Bioroid Assault Craft from Super Cavalry Southern Cross and would like to gauge the interest of members on this forum: http://mechajournal.com/2015/11/roil-tiluvo-aerospace-assault-transport/ https://ixquick-proxy.com/do/show_picture.pl?l=english&rais=1&oiu=http%3A%2F%2Fmechajournal.com%2Fwp-content%2Fuploads%2F2017%2F04%2FRoil-Quekasm-Air-Defense-Boat-with-Roil-Tiluvo-Assault-Corvette.jpg&sp=6a9c2200c3a395ea0f6f15a5e181364c The model will be around 20 cm (7 or so inches) in length, have a dark translucent canopy (potentially) and a rotatable under turret. The intention is to have a quality/accurate model but with minimum bells and whistles to keep it affordable. Ballpark figure per model would be around 170 - 180 Canadian dollars per kit (note this may change depending on actual costs) and we would need around 25 to 30 orders. If Cap takes on the project you will then place your directly orders with him as per usual. As many persons may be financially committed at the moment this project is targeted for later in the year, but should there be enough interested persons up front it may kick off sooner. If you are interested in then please indicate this by posting on this thread.
  8. I am excited for this little project. I am making a 1/72 transformeable/ poseable wolverines. I hope I can get some kits going by february if not sooner. Also got couple more of the same series coming.
  9. Here is an interesting item I found at the recent Comic Market 91. It is an expansion for a fan made table top pen and paper tank battle simulation called "Tankhunter". This expansion adds Mecha from Macross, but also borrows some units from Southern Cross and Megazone 23, but renames some them to fit in the Macross universe. The artwork is also borrowed from various Robotech sources.
  10. I was thinking about the Spartas (RT: Dana Sterling's Hovertank) recently. It's the one Matchbox Robotech toy that eludes me mostly because I'm too cheap to cough up the $100+ for the ones that languish on eBay. But I have a ton of LEGO thanks to my wife who years ago robbed some teens blind at a garage sale. I decided to give this a try knowing that it's transformation is really one of the easier ones out there for transforming mech. This is my version 1, took me roughly 8 hours of dedicated work. It helps that I've had practice trying to build LEGO mechs with the standard system, bionicle, and the newer hero factory lines. https://www.flickr.com/photos/18239022@N00/22445795997/in/dateposted-public/ I posed it next to a Matchbox Bioroid for reference. Sadly the Matchbox Southern Cross toys are way out of scale with each other. My transformation is not completely accurate. The curvy part, or hood of the tank, should actually hang down like a skirt from the waist in battroid mode. I might try to fix it, but really I'm more eager to the bottom of the legs in white, so I'll probably be placing a Bricklink order soon.
  11. Our "Women Of Robotech" panel is tentatively scheduled to kick off Otakon 2016 at 9AM on Friday the 12th. The current schedule posted is just a preview schedule and subject to change. Keep an eye out for updates. This year, we are opening with a Japanese version of the 1970s Wonder Woman TV theme sung by the Tirolian Muses. We'll explore how animation changed over the years, Robotech's importance in the 80s, and focus on the roles the women portrayed in each chapter of the series. www.Otakon.com

  14. After reading some of the comments in the Southern Cross topic and thinking for a while. For the first time I came to the conclusion or perhaps realization that a lot of the anime I like might be past its selling point for most. I grew up with this stuff and it’s still cool to me. Sometimes it feels like yesterday even though it was back in the 80s or early 90s. I still want items from these shows but the majority either don’t or grew out of it. Which is sad because current technology allows many anime toys, models, and figures to be produced at high quality. I even came up with a new project idea while thinking about one of these older anime shows. To me Southern Cross is great. I still want a hovertank, hovercycle, and Dana figure. I was listening to the music from Zillion and remembered that we never got the full series over here. I only have some of the VHS tapes. Something happened to my SEGA Master System games. I need to get them again. I still want well done Dangaio team ships that are transformable with fairly detailed figures. Accurate Voltron lions ever since it was mentioned in a topic here. So much should be coming out but it's almost like we get a tease and then a cancellation. I’m still upset about Rook’s cyclone / ride armor. There was a good Noriko kit from Gunbuster that never came out or is so rare I can’t find it. And of course figures of Minmay and others from Macross since the days of unpainted kits being the best you can get are long gone. Do you guys still want this stuff? Or are you satisfied with what we are getting?
  15. I just finished my rendition of the proper flag for the Armies of the Southern Cross. Harmony Gold uses the logo for the Tactical Air Force as their default logo for all of Southern Cross but this one is correct. Southern Cross is my favorite Anime and I've spent a lot of time working on this to be true to the couple of images that are seen in the DVD. I took the two screen shots of the flag and created this image trying to utilize proper heraldic style which is what they would use. I hope you like it.
  16. We just received word that our Macross/Robotech panel was accepted for Zenkaikon 2013 in Lancaster, PA. We are currently scheduled for Sunday the 24th at 2PM.
