  1. Okay the idea behind this thread is simple, users tend to ask questions that are, for better words, either easy to find common knowledge or sound pretty funny. You don't want to look stupid and we don't want to have mod a bunch of little topics. Examples: "Whose that green haired lady?" "What happen to Rick hunter?" "Did Minmay kiss her brother?" "Is this video from this country a bootleg?" "What's with the Zentradi elf-ears?" "Is there an official answer to <insert story="" or="" production="" trivia="" here="">?" "Where can I find a copy of this <insert product="" here="">?" "When will we see <insert product="" here=""> come out?" "What are this things?"/"Where are these things?"/"Who are these things?" "What <insert show or episode> did <insert event or item> show up?" and other newbie or short questions like these post them here. Ground rules It's only for newbie-type and short question/answer type questions about Macross. When someone post a simple question here hopefully one the more experienced posters will tell the newbie the answer. It's Question & Answer-format only. Nothing more. Newbies tend to be lazy and ask questions about everything. If you can point the newbie to the source it's better than just telling them the answer straight. If you see a newbie question about Macross somewhere else direct them here and their other topic will be closed/deleted. Search is a great tool. 2. Not a huge fan of Robotech, but he did manage to bring Macross to the west for the US kids of the 80s.
  3. Hello! Lucian GKaiser here and I want to present to you all the start of my Macross Lore Video Series on Youtube, the first two episodes are up right now where I discuss the lore and history of the first Macross series to air on tv, Super Dimensional Fortress Macross! The first part is a little rough because I was working with a lower quality microphone and my voice acting was kinda goofy at times, but part two is much longer with much improved quality all around! Check them out if you love Macross and want to see me playing Macross 30 Voices Across the Galaxy while discussing this and every other Macross series to follow it! Macross Lore Videos start here!
  4. My take on Episode 12 from SDFM: "Big Escape". You know it's embarrassing when someone just flew a Valkyrie right through your bridge (not to mention right in front of your BOSS), and all you can do is glare after them as they proceed to streak to the nearest exit. Breetai's probably going to need some Zentraedi-strength Tylenol after this one... https://www.patreon.com/pbz313
  5. Has anyone here looked at or attempted to model the Cavaliers or Alaska Base schemes from SDFM? I keep hoping that Hasegawa will offer them eventually, but in the meantime, I'm collecting info (and paint) to turn a couple VF-1A kits into them. Referencing the Mecha Manual: Cavaliers: http://www.macross2.net/m3/sdfmacross/variant-vf-1a-cavaliers.htm I'm not that excited about how Yamato did their toy version (I don't own it, so I'm just referencing online photos): http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?showtopic=36375 I prefer the Mecha Manual interpretation without the gray trim around the cockpit and nose. I also think the front and backs of the legs should be more of a gray color than the lighter blue that Yamato seems to have used (unless it looks different in person). Was this squadron referenced in the Master Files? I don't have access to mine at the moment but don't recall seeing it in the SDFM squadrons book, which would have been the logical place. It would probably be a more interesting scheme with appropriate squadron markings, but I guess I'll have to make up something convincing. Any idea on a good Mr. Color dark blue for this scheme? I think Navy Blue (14) might be too dark, but I'll get a bottle to try out. Alaska Base: http://www.macross2.net/m3/sdfmacross/variant-vf-1a-alaskabase.htm Valkyrie addict did a nice job painting one of the Yamato kits in this scheme: http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?showtopic=39189&hl= He used Tamiya TS-43 Racing Green, which I think is a pretty good match based on his model photos, but I'll have to try my hand at decanting the Tamiya spray paint, as I'd prefer to airbrush it. I'm pretty sure this scheme appeared in the Master Files, but I don't recall if it mentioned a squadron number or any other information. Does anyone have that reference handy? I'm in the process of moving the family cross country and have a lot of things in storage. These schemes don't get a lot of modeling attention, which is understandable, since they only appeared for a few seconds, but I like the idea of replicating more official paint schemes that haven't been done much before.

  7. Does anyone have a screen shot of the VF - 1 with nose art and Misa sitting in the back? Alternatively, when does it appear on screen? I have tried the search function without any luck.

  10. Hey guys, returning after a long hiatus. Quick question, I remember back in the day the Animeigo version of SDF Macross was THE version to get, however in my cash strapped student days that was a difficult pill to swallow. These days the Animeigo version is out of print. Is there anything comparable on the market now? I've heard the ADV version is... not as good.
  11. I'm looking for screen-caps of the Hikaru vs Britai fight from SDFM, specifically when the -1J is pinned to the wall and the chest plate has been ripped off. Any help appreciated. Greg
  12. Thought this would be a good topic and comment generator. Which is the better Dog Fight between M&M: TV or DYRL? My Vote is below and both are available to view before you choose. I cast my vote for T.V. You can't beat the casual one handed shots Max lays down while leaning back in a hover, or the split screen shot showing him throttle the HOTAS and the side vents vectoring with the head turret tilting up. TV: DYRL: http://youtu.be/nbRWMgh5FXc?t=24s
  13. I watched DYRL and just finished SDF. SDF was great! Question is what should I watch next? (and any ideas where I can watch for free would be great too)
  14. Just rewatch the original SDFM, watched it many times before but since I knew the whole story I was usually doing several things while watching it and didn't got to deeply on the subtle things of the show. Don't know if anyone discussed this before, search it but did not find. I was always curious on the ending credits after every episode on how melancholic the music and lyrics were, talking about going away, etc., how it sorta cut out of the feeling of the show being a space opera. Also specially why the ending credits were not cut like the show opening in every episode. Until I saw episode 28 and 36. On episode 28 I realized the ending credits is the scene where Misa is seeing Hikaru's photo album with only Minmei pictures and how sad she gets. Given on how its all setup, the album color/design and placing in the table along with the space helmet/Fokker Helmet., so, everytime an episodes ends you know how Misa feels with the lyrics talking about not being able to follow somebody, uncertainty about today and the future and running towards a goal in the distance. In the end of Episode 36, the last scene after Minmei fairs good bye on going away to find a new reason to sing leaving Hikaru with Misa, there's a hand closing an album with Hikaru and Misa together in the wreckage of the Macross being the last picture . Its Misa closing her album now with her in it. When the ending credits role, is now Mari Iijima/Minmei singing, but the lyrics are slightly different talking on how she's chosen her new path to reach her goal in the distance. This is why I love SDFM. So, was this common knowledge?
