  5. Two week ago Adult Swim had advertised Escaflowne will be airing on the 10th of September, so I thought they were bringing the series onto Adultswim after it was unceramoniously taken off Fox saturday morning lineup a long time ago. Anyway when I saw it took a different take on the show, the characters were all there but the way it started from beginning to end was completely different it's like a retelling of the series, in turn Mr. Kawamorii pulled a DYRL with Escaflowne. All in all I liked it, when escaflowne appeared with Hitomi in it, It looked more organic than mechanical and the characters had opposite roles than the ones in the series. If anyone who was fortunate enogh to stay awake to see it what's your take on it, yay or nay?
  6. There are a few animes that I can watch over and over and never get bored. Of course there is the different Macross series but the others are Mospeada, Gall Force, & Masamune Shirow's Dominion & New Dominion Tank Police. I and a huge fan of Leona & her tank Bonaparte as well as the rest of the Tank Police. I collect anime cels, whenever I can find them, comics and figures. I was just wondering if there were any other Tank Police fans out there.
  7. Hello, I noticed that we did not have a thread out for Phoenix Fan Fusion this year. I know it is not normally a big Macross event but it does have some bits and pieces for those interested on going. I remember finding some of the background material for Macross in the Vendor Hall at this convention a couple years ago. As for events and such for Macross I do not remember anything happening for that though I do seem to remember one year we had one of the VAs for the ADV Dub of SDF Macross. Anyways. I hope to see you there!
  8. Yuusha-Oh GaoGaiGar (勇者王ガオガイガー) Sunrise/Nagoya TV/Victor Entertainment, 1997-1998 AnimeWorks, 2006-2008 Directed by Yoshitomo Yonetani (Betterman, Brigadoon) Running Time: 26 minutes per episode. Rated 13 & Up for graphic violence and mild language "Final Fusion - Approved!" "Final Fuson - Program Drive!" Cast Nobuyuki Hiyama (Shiro in Mobile Suit Gundam: The 08th MS Team, Yushiro in Gasaraki) as Guy Maiko Ito (Atsuko in Boogiepop Phantom) as Mamoru Tomoe Hanba (Lucciola in Last Exile) as Mikoto Koji Ishii (Kimura-sensei in Azumanga Daioh, Oji in The Legend of Black Heaven) as Taiga Hisao Egawa as Hyuma/Goldy Marg Miki Narahashi as Swan/Reiko Kenichi Ogata (Genma in Ranma 1/2, Myoga in Inu-Yasha) as Leo/Pasdar Hiroaki Ishikawa as Kazuo/Sueo Tsutomu Kashiwakura as Entouji/Takayasu/Penchinon Shinichi Yamada as Hyoryu/Enryu/ChoRyuJin/Rairyu/Furyu/GekiRyuJin Katsuyuki Konishi (Samurai Deeper Kyo, Louie the Rune Soldier) as VolFogg Mitsuo Iwata (Kaneda in AKIRA, Itsuki in Initial D) as Mike Sounders Konami Yoshida (Metal Fighter Miku, Umi in Magic Knight Rayearth) as Hana Yuri Sa as Mamoru's mother/Ikumi Kohzou Shioya (Majin Buu in Dragon Ball Z) as Mamoru's father/Polonaise Miho Yamada (Miki inMagic User's Club) as Mamoru's teacher Kiyoshi Kobayashi (Jigen in Lupin III, Delaz in Mobile Suit Gundam 0083) as the narrator "Final Fusion!" Synopsis In the year 2005, a race of evil aliens called the "Zonders" emerge from underneath the Earth's surface and stage numerous attacks on Tokyo with their robot monsters designated as "E.I." (Enemy Invaders). To combat this threat, the 3G (Gutsy Geoid Guard) bring out the cyborg hero Guy and the mechanical lion Galeon (once combined, they become the humanoid robot GaiGar). But when an EI is deemed too tough to control, 3G approves "Final Fusion," where GaiGar merges with DrillGao (a drill tank), LinerGao (a bullet train) and StealthGao (a stealth bomber) to become Earth's ultimate line of defense - the mighty robot GaoGaiGar. Story: A At first, GaoGaiGar can be dismissed as a kiddie anime, but underneath the hokey premise and the first episode intro that is so Superman, GaoGaiGar has everything you want in an super robot anime - colossal mecha action, over-the-top heroes and extremely sinister villains. As a matter of fact, the Zonders would become a major inspiration for other anime villains like the Invaders in Gate Keepers. Kids will idolize the show's main heroes Guy and Mamoru, while guys will be hooked on the show's hot chicks and cool mecha. GaoGaiGar is loads of fun for everyone. Animation: A- For a TV series aimed at kids, Sunrise threw everything and the kitchen sink in animating GaoGaiGar. The animation itself is groundbreaking by its own right, using a perfect blend of 2D cel art with 3D computer effects. The character designs by Takahiro Kimura (Betterman, Brigadoon) have everything from slick outfits to really hot female characters like 3G's Mikoto and Swan or the evil Zonder chick Primarda. (My co-worker even thinks Mamoru's foster mother is hot.) Kunio Okawara's (Mobile Suit Gundam, Betterman) design for GaoGaiGar is his best work ever. With weapons and tools like the "Broken Magnum" (a Rocket Punch on steroids), "Dividing Driver" (a giant screwdriver used to create a battlefield to keep the fights away from the city) and the "Goldion Hammer" (you have to see this to believe it), GaoGaiGar puts most other Super Robots to shame. Soundtrack: A Ga-Ga-Ga! Ga-Ga-Ga-GaoGaiGar! Ga-Ga-Ga! Ga-Ga-Ga-Ga-GaoGaiGar! The show's soundtrack ain't no slouch, either, as the opening theme "Yuusha-Oh Tanjo!" is the most energetic robot theme song ever recorded. In addition, Kohei Tanaka (Gunbuster, Sakura Wars) supplies an outstanding orchestral score that mixes perfectly with the action. Sub vs. Dub Under construction. The Bottom Line Non stop mecha action, awesome animation and a killer soundtrack to boot. No wonder GaoGaiGar is the King of Braves. This Gao's for you. 9. Out of nowhere Bandai is bringing a new action figure. I couldn’t find a thread for the show, so I figured I’d start one in case other items appear like new kits other action figures or just a rerelease of the series.
  10. Finally the year-long project (with Plasmo) is completed, enjoy if you like both Secret of blue water and EVA AMV: [/img] Plasmo's video showing some processes: PS: the boss of the company who produced the tower, told me that Anno Hideaki's studio ordered 2 towers to promote EVA (3.0+1.0 I guess as a ship crash into tower again). He sent the video to Anno's colleague so hopefully Anno will finally see this work in full glory (He paid much homage to N-Nautilus with AAA Wunder in Evangelion 3.33).

  12. I decided to try out the technique in a bigger model, a friend may want me to build and paint his 1/20 planax, but I declined as I think I need practice and I am a really bad builder
  13. I'm not sure if many of you remember the El-Hazard: Magnificent World OVA's from back in the 90s, but to me it was a classic. It looks like AIC is trying to get funding for a direct sequel to the original OVAs featuring the offspring of several of the original characters plus a new one from the school where the story originally took place. I'll be supporting this one with what I can. https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2018-08-12/aic-plans-crowdfunding-for-el-hazard-sequel-project/.135364
  14. So I have wanted to see Zero forever.....saw the first episode fansubbed years ago but couldn't find the others. Finally had a chance to watch it this past week and liked some things about it and disliked somethings about it. Shin kinda sucks as a main character, his motivations are hard to understand and he seems to waffle from episode to episode as to what his focus is. Zero Roy is a very interesting take and not what I expected based on his (Robotech) persona. Still thought he was probably the best character in the show. The show itself almost seemed like two separate series; it's basically kick-a**-tropical-Valkyrie-battle-show and then this almost separate "Macross-Island-Adventure", which makes me think of Evangelion for some reason. It's almost like the two aspects of the show don't really connect, at least not in the same way that they do in the original Macross, Plus, or Frontier. That said the Valkyrie battles were excellent. In fact while the show falls far below Plus the dogfights were actually much better in my opinion. The valks move in a much more believable manner than Plus where Isamu routinely flew his valk around in a manner that looked like a child playing with a toy. Also the more gritty, realistic, pre-SDF Macross designs and combat was really well done and that final face off between Shin/Nora and Roy/Ivanov was friggin awesome. I also liked that the series presented both the UN and Anti-UN forces in equally unfavorable light as things unfold. The original Macross tells us that the alien ship crashed and all humanity united; this version presents a slightly more realistic view of a more tumultuous transition prior to the Zentradi arrival. Overall a cool series though nowhere near as good as Plus or what I have seen thus far of Frontier which I also just started. That said some of my favorite mechs from the franchise now come from Zero after having finally seen it. In fact I was planning to clear out my Zero Valks but now they are probably my favorites.
  15. Thought I might start a post on this, Because of its Macross relevance. First and foremost, "Mechanic design: Shoji Kawamori" and after watching the trailer I think I see why. Dragons hiding in jets! Second then they transform out and wear the jet parts as armor. I'm thinking this show might be worth a watch. The described as "a heartwarming story...filled with love, laughter and tears", the plot of Hisone and Masotan is as follows: Straightforward and innocent Hisone Amakasu is a rookie self-defense official. She was struggling with the fact that she sometimes hurts people unintentionally by her innocent words and decided to join in Air Self-Defence, hoping to maintain a certain distance from people. This decision led her to a fateful encounter which profoundly changes her life. It was the dragon hidden in the base and it chose Hisone as his pilot. When it soared into the sky with Hisone, her fate as a dragon pilot was decided. It is said that dragons have a key to the future of the world… Hisone and Masotan will broadcast in Japan in 2018. An official Twitter feed (@hisomaso_anime) has also been published for Hisone and Masotan.
  16. I've been perusing Tenjin Hidetaka's Instagram account, I like the cats to know if you guys have also been following other similar artists/mechanical designers and who are you following? Features Misa x Hikaru Barry Windsor-Smith - drew for Marvel etc. I don't think he's that active in comics anymore
  17. There's enough interest from some in this site on the ongoing Monogatari series for it to have it's own thread and thereby keep it from monopolizing other threads. Let's keep it all here, TV series, films, novels and those fine looking 1/8 Senjougahara PVC figures too.
  18. A true anime classic by Gainax will come out in BD in october. Although the Bandai and Madman DVD releases are excellent, the temptation to get this one in BD quality will be strong. http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2013-06-27/maiden-japan-to-release-royal-space-force-film-on-dvd/bd-in-october
  19. Esta temporada estoy siguiendo Made in Abyss y Fate/Apocrypha. ¿Y ustedes?
  20. It's with sadness that I read that Noboru Ishiguro's old studio, Artland has closed down. Over the years it delivered some real quality shows like Musishi, Legend of Galactic Heroes, Megazone 23 and it was one of the studio's that helped out Nue to make our very own Macross. Some big time names like Haruhiko Mikimoto and Hideaki Anno did some of their early work at Artland. A real shame, but then again, animation studios unfortunately get a very small slice of the pie moneywise in the anime industry.
