  1. From the album: Personal Macross Kits

Some sub-assemblies on the workbench, during my restoration of this vintage buildup.
  2. From the album: happy_spike collection

Update 2 of my Bandai Fighter Collection (mostly series 1 with a few series 2) at my desk at work.
  3. From the album: happy_spike collection

    New purchases from mandrake Osaka
  4. As far as I can see there isn't a thread on it, and there should be because it looks all kinds of awesome. not for everybody but it looks like its going to be sweet. its like a blend of super robot, mecha, and samurai-ish aesthetics. also robots with capes are almost always cool. toy wise its 18" tall and 100 points of articulation and includes the pilot figure (and will be wildly out of scale with anything remotely macross because it seems the pilot is between 5-6" tall or so).... i don't usually collect random stuff but sometimes cool stuff happens. gonna try to get myself one of these. i wish there was some supporting fiction or art other than that video. http://gundamguy.blogspot.com/2013/11/bandai-x-threezero-x-kunio-okawara.html
  5. From the album: happy_spike collection

My Valkyrie squadron on my desk at work. It will grow!
  6. There does not seem to be a thread for all things L-Gaim so this can be it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heavy_Metal_L-Gaim I've watched the subbed series up to about half way. At first I did not think I would like it, but it was the often ZANY interaction between Kyao, Amu and Leccee that made me keep watching. Also the maniacal Gavlet character is lol funny. The series does seem ancient, but the Robot Spirits line seems to be doing quite well and is up to its 8th release in the line. With the Heavy Metal G-Roon about to come out. The Bandai SPEC L-Gaim Mark I is a far superior piece, but I guess that line was too expensive to try to keep alive - so we got the 'much-cheaper-to-make' RS instead. Here are some pics of the Robot Spirits Calvary Temple Hellmeene . . .
  7. Bandai just updated the mysteriously blank www.gundam-bf.net and we have been given an interesting promo and told to expect the full reveal on July 2. There was also a blurb on Gundam.info. Google Translate sucks. It sounds like an anime but why the model scale designator 1/144? I guess we'll find out.
  8. The 52nd Shizuoka Hobby Show will soon be held. http://www.hobby-shizuoka.com/index.htm The Macross related items may be handled with only Hasegawa and Bandai. Arcadia is not on the list. The first 2 days are only for the buyers and the press. The news about the new industrial products will be come on May 16th. As far as I know, Hasegawa's VF-1 new paint, VE-11 Thunder Seeker and Bandai's VF-1 may be shown at the venue. I will go there on 18th and see those new products and many completed goods by the amateur modelers. Looking forward to seeing VF-1 Riders' booth and Kanto Sakemochi-kai's one. Aside from the Macross items, the Yamato 2199 and Girls und Panzer ones may increase this time.
  9. Some of you (hopefully) noticed that I recently got the book VF Modeling Manual. In there, they give a description on how to do a recessed vernier for your 1/72 kit. As I am building an old Imai Gerwalk now, and trying to pep it up a bit, here's what I did to make the vernier. Start by getting yourself some 5 mm plastic pipe. I'm using Tamiya. No special reason for it being clear, that's just what the hobby shop happened to have in stock. Next, take the part you want, and drill a 5 mm hole (obviously, on the Hasegawa kits, just remove the original casted vernier area. Cut a small piece of the rod. I did around 4 mm long. Then, smooth out the rough edge. Now, here is where I'm deviating from the Modeling Manual plans, since I've got some extra parts from Jasmine Models lovely VF-1 PE set. I'm using the round pieces in the lower left. Glue the round piece onto one end of the short tube. Draw a mark on the tube for how far you want to insert it into your kit. You only want to go 2 mm or so. Put it, and glue it. Once the glue has set, trim off the excess, and sand it flat. Put on the top piece, and you're finished! (actually, wait to do this until you've primed and painted. much easier to get the inside black with no cover) Now, if you don't have the PE set, use a small disk of plaplate (5 mm, natch), and a small strip over the top of it. You'll also want to get a circle scribing template (probably around 6 mm) to go around the outside of the hole.
  10. Does anyone have any suggestions on some general basic reading, guides, or links on how to get started with Bandai 1/72 snap together models? (And how to not jack them up royally) Even little tips would be appriciated. IE: tab cutting the different varieties of plastic, surfacing, minor detailing, decals, preservation, ect?
  11. Hi everyone. I just wanted to start a proper thread for this. I put up adapters for Gundam stands that can hold up Yamato valks. Here's some images that CoreyD posted on http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?showtopic=37622'>his thread. Heres' the link for them: http://www.shapeways.com/shops/exodigital'>http://www.shapeways...hops/exodigital And here's the HLJ link to the stands: http://www.hlj.com/scripts/hljlist?Word=gundam+stands&DisplayMode=images&Dis=2&Sort=std&qid=IHYE32P2QUVS4Q&set=1&q=1&MacroType2=displaybse'>http://www.hlj.com/s...ype2=displaybse It's an inexpensive solution for your display needs. Thanks! I've uploaded the adapters that removes the need for the hinge. It makes for a more sturdier stand and can actually hold a 1/48 with Fast Packs. I had to create ones with angles that bank because removing the hinge means less pose-ability There should be enough variety to suit your needs. I've also renamed the product so the number of different ones won't be confusing. B2Y - Bandai to Yamato B2Y classic - the original ones that people have been purchasing that goes on the hinged part of the stand. Allows more pose-ability but won't hold heavier valks B2Y unhinged - comes in three varieties: level, Starboard (banking) and Port (banking) I've also bundled them up in different sorts for price breaks.
  12. I finaly finished my first model ever, I hated the pink parts of the model so I decided to paint it matte black, and gun metal. In some parts the paint chiped or scratched after the final assembly and first transformation, and yes I clear coated a few times but still... over all I think It´s a good model and fun to build, but some pieces don't fit to well, making the transformation a pain, specially in jet mode, the shoulder area never stays where it should. hope you like it, here are some quick pics in jet mode.
  13. Hey everyone! Just wanted people who don't frequent the Building/Customizing Macross Models & Toys section of the forums to be aware that slowly but surely - items I've made and produced from Shapeways.com are becoming available to you. This started initially as my own custom pieces meant just for me - but as the items grew in ambition and complexity, I thought it a waste if no one else got the chance to have these in their collection. As mentioned above they came about in 2 of my own threads customizing a Queadluun Rau and a VF-11C; http://www.macrosswo...showtopic=35459 & http://www.macrosswo...showtopic=36209 - shapeways pieces and WIP at the end of the threads. Currently I've finished 99% of my DYRL to TV Queadluun Rau conversion pieces - with only a new hip/waist articulation to go and have finished wing-clip attachments for VF-11s to allow attachments of any current 1/60 missiles and the freshly made HMMs. I have also completed a 1/60 Queadluun Rhea Impact Cannon and pieces to attach to a Q.Rau and for a VF-25 to use as a rifle. More items will become available as I get them and inspect them personally for detail fidelity and material properties to ensure the best product possible. They are available here; http://www.shapeways.com/shops/RPG Without giving too much away - expect much more love for the VF-11, VF-0 and Zentran Mecha. I am open to suggestions or requests - but they're subject to my work load. I will update this thread when items become available. I will continue the above custom threads with the build-ups and eventual completions in their respective threads. Peace! EDIT: Trying to add a poll!
  14. Presenting the thread dedicated to Bandai's high-end action figure lines: S.H. Figuarts S.H. Figuarts is Bandai's answer to Kaiyodo's Revoltech and Max Factory's Figma lines, with figures that boast extreme detail and poseability, coupled with a vast array of features and accessories. The line consists mainly of Kamen Rider and Super Sentai figures, but there are also figures for anime characters from Dragon Ball, One Piece, Tiger & Bunny and Doraemon, as well as Hollywood blockbusters like Star Wars and the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Here's an example: Juzo Fuwa from Samurai Sentai Shinkenger (a.k.a. Deker from Power Rangers Samurai), a Tamashii Web exclusive: The line also includes S.H. Figuarts Zero which consists of non-poseable anime statues that are well-detailed. Here's Himura Kenshin from Rurouni Kenshin: D-Arts D-Arts focuses on video game characters, as well as the Digimon series. The D-Arts line was dropped after 2014, with newer video game character figures being released under the S.H. Figuarts line. Here are Rockman X (MegaMan X) and Rockman Zero (MegaMan Zero) (1st Version): S.H. MonsterArts S.H. MonsterArts is for the kaiju fan who demands a lot of detail and poseability that normal monster figures lack. Here's Godzilla: Ultra-Act Ultra-Act is for hardcore fans of the Ultraman series, as well as Tsuburaya Productions' other works. Here's Ultraman: Post your collection here.

  17. Have a question about the 1/60 Bandai Macross Frontier models. I was reading anymoon.com about the re-release of these and was having trouble trying to figure out how to tell the difference in packaging from a version 1 and a version 2 release. From what I have read, only the VF-25F and VF-25S were re-released but are there differences in the packaging that can help me spot the difference? My next question was that I heard that none of the super armor or super pack sets from the version 1 models will work on the version 2 models; is this true? I later read that Bandai was going to re-release superpack/armor sets for the version 2 but has this happened yet and what does packing look like for those. I recently went to a Mandarake store where it looked like they had the super armor and super packs and they were packaged in a white box with a wireframed Valkerie with only the armor parts overlayed in color to show what you were buying.
  18. The previous thread folded to the Hall of Super Topics. http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?showtopic=35195 Here's a recap of what's coming in the next few months. April 2012: Super Parts for VF-25F and VF-25S May 2012: YF-29 reissue June 2012: Armored Parts for for VF-25F and VF-25S, plus VF-171EX No word on when the rest of Skull Squadron is coming.
  19. I am interested to see how many are actually buying or trying to buy those valk that is some how getting so hard to get, and story on which shops that are not really reliable for pre-order. Also may be we can let the main toy topic to focus on the toy instead of who is to blame for not taking our money.

  21. So, I didn't see any threads regarding these figures, but I know that there used to be one in the past, so I thought I'd reinstate a new one in response to this: http://www.hlj.com/product/ALT20805 Alter's new 1/60 M9 Gernsback. Alter made a previous 1/60 Arbalest, and this time, their taking a shot at the M9. I missed my chance at picking up the arbalest (and its sold out pretty much everywhere now), so getting this is a no brainer for me. Looks REALLY cool, but then again, its about an inch shorter than a 1/60 VF-1 and nearly 2800 yen more expensive, so your mileage may vary. I think its a great piece of work though. What do you guys think?
  22. Since Chogokin has it's own dedicated thread, I thought I'd start one for Robot Spirits figures so we don't have dozens of related threads scattered all over the forums. Here, we can discuss our Robot Spirits collections, upcoming releases, and anything else pertaining to this awesome line of mecha figures. I started my RT (Robot Tamashii, not to be confused with Robotech) love affair with the Full Metal Panic figures, and have been extremely impressed with each and every one of them. I have all of the FMP mecha, including two next-to-impossible-to-find Savages. I just received the web-exclusive MITHRIL Emergency Booster set in the mail today and was surprised at how much it's launch catapult resembles some of the MSG Mechanical Chain Base sets. The booster itself is a nice one-size-fits-all design for all versions of the M9 and the ARX-7. In launch mode, the catapult footpads raise up between 45 and 50 degrees, resembling "starting blocks" that track runners use. Overall, it's an awesome accessory for the Side AS figures...which makes me even more excited for the Gray/White Arbalest and Weapon Set in November. I know some people hate the way Bandai releases add-ons like this as aftermarket sets, but I like being able to expand on the figures I already have in my collection. (Photos coming soon) I haven't ventured beyond the FMP series with these figures, but as time goes on, and Bandai adds new series to its lineup, I'm sure I'll branch out...
  23. Are you new to the world of Macross toy collecting or have a question that doesn't necessarily need a thread of it's own? Post it here and our resident Macross toy specialists will reply to you. Old thread: http://www.macrosswo...opic=11308&st=0 The initial one had answers that were so outdated, that first post is actually very funny. I'm going to try to dig thru that thread and link all relevant questions and answers here on the first post. First off... here's peolesdru's homepage at youtube which contains a lot of excellent transformation sequences you need for Macross Toys. http://www.macrosswo...showtopic=29393 Macrossworld's home page link to the toy section, for up to date stuff, you have to look thru the forums but the resource here is very invaluable: http://www.macrosswo...showtopic=28836 This is one of a few non discussion threads on MW, any comments not containing a scoop gets deleted after a few hours. LOCKED THREAD, PLEASE SEE FRONT PAGE FOR NEW SCOOPS CollectionDX's video reviews, search Macross for relevancy or find other toys there: http://www.macross2....ross-index.html MW = Macrossworld Valkyrie or "valks" = nickname for the transfoming jets most specifically used for the VF-1 but is an accepted term for any of its later successors (and the VF-0). CF = "Cannon Fodder"= refers to the brownie VFs that constantly get blown up in many episodes. FP = "Fast Packs" = external armor mounted on valkyrie, usually is exclusive to non atmospheric use. Fold Booster = additional equipment used by valkyries to jump from one space to another. Joke Machine = Bandai's Super Deformed versions of the Valkyrie HCM = High Complete Model, Bandai's original 1/72 version of the valkyries The Macross = The SDF-1 yammie = Nickname for Yamato Toys, most specifically a Yamato valkyrie chunky monkey = Nickname for the original Bandai/Takatoku 1/55 scale valkyrie what is a Joons? A popular bootleg version of the 1/55 what does GBP stand for? Grenade Box Protector, the heavily armored version of the VF-1 what's the difference between a super pack and a strike pack? The strike pack has a cannon attached to the right booster of the Fast Packs and was never seen in the TV series. What are TV hands? TV hands are the rounded version of the VF-1's hands, seen on the TV series and not in the movie (DYRL?) Also known as Mickey hands. What is DYRL?? Refers to the movie version Macross: Do You Remember Love? in which you see different versions of the valk flown by our heroes. There are also different versions of other mechas such as The Macross, The Quadleunn Rau and the Nousjadeul-Ger. Does Yamato or Bandai or any other Japanese manufacturers cater macross products to the US market? NO. Only japan. They WANTED to cater to us, but legality problems with Harmony Gold prevented them from doing so. Reference the HG debates thread for more info in the "other and science fiction" section. However OTHER non macross products from yamato are readily available in the USA. refer to this thread: http://www.macrosswo...p?showtopic=153 Do they offer parts for repairs? Still No... same reasons Why can't I find any news on the Alpha Fighter here? The Alpha Fighter was seen in the American series called Robotech, and was derived from Macross, Southern Cross and Mospeada (which is where you will see the Legioss (Alpha Fighter) and Robotech is considered an off topic subject as this is a Macross forum. refer to this thread: http://www.macrosswo...p?showtopic=228
