  1. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1300298569/under-the-dog As of an hour ago, Under the Dog met its goal! I guess this should have its own thread now, eh? I'm excited about the turn around. Last week was looking iffy, but I have to hand it to this team, they did not falter. And their core ideas seem to be resonating with the anime community now in the final hours. Everything raised from this point until Sunday will be a sweet bonus.
  2. I did some storyboards for my friends project that is a mini pilot on ADULT SWIM! GO WATCH!! http://video.adultswim.com/robot-chicken/samurai-high-dodgeball-squad-stoopid-buddy-shortz.html
  3. Not sure if this was already posted, but this is a new series premiering tonight on Adultswim/Toonami. So far I am definitely enjoying it.
  4. Shirogane no Ishi Argevollen (白銀の意思 アルジェヴォルン) is a new anime series by XEBEC that will premiere on July 3. Directed by Atsushi Ootsuki (To Love-Ru, Kanokon: The Girl Who Cried Fox), with character designs by Yuichi Ouka (Over Drive, To Love-Ru) and mechanical designs by Kenji Teraoka (Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, Mobile Suit Gundam 00) and Hirame Kikuchi (The Pilot's Love Song). 5. I was checking out my newly-acquired Artmic Bible and damn there is some cool mecha in there. I especially like the stuff from Megazone and Gall Force, but I have never seen any kits for those shows for sale anywhere. So I thought, why not ask the guys on Macross World? If you have pics of your non-Macross mecha, I'd love to see them. Toys, models, whatever. I'm dying to see what you got.
  6. Looks like there was no thread on Osamu Tezuka (except a 2006 request specifically about Phoenix). Now there is one Since I learned about him at all (in 1997 I think) I was fascinated by one person effectively creating a genre. And even beore that there was that 1993 screening of Phoenix 2772 on Russian TV that got me hooked and longing for years... until I got the Best Video (or something) dubbed VHS with the help of the then-budding Moscow anime fan club. Perhaps the reason I don't care much for Ranka vs. Sheryl is because, with apologies to these fair ladies, my one and only anime love is fixed from back then, Olga the robot. Well at least I got to give her some decent tribute, with the Japanese embassy organizing a screening in Moscow in summer 98 but forgetting to bring in an interpreter. I started translating to a lady I was with, cries of "Louder" ensued... I was soon brought into the booth ended up translating the movie from Japanese - without knowing a word of Japanese. I just knew the thing by heart from watching it so many times! After the screening I got a small Moscow Times interview - and found enough "followers" to do a full fandub (over the English - we had no Japanese source). Yes, I'm sorry, it was an act of piracy - but we made a point of getting no monetary compensation when passing it on. The dub was spotted from Israel to Vladivostok. (A fansub was made later when a Japanese DVD became available). I voiced Dr. Saruta in the dub, hence the nickname I use on anime-related forums. I wonder if Kawamori himself is a Tezuka fan... or perhaps I should not even wonder. He was an anime/manga fan back in the late 70s. He could not have missed it.
  7. Guess I need to get around to finally watching Sasuraiger... http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2014-04-08/mobile-suit-gundam-writer-yamamoto-helms-original-anime-project The Facebook page doesn't have much yet, but I'm really looking forward to this.
  8. I know its a bit late, but this is one of the animes that has made a buzz over there at animesuki and I though it deserved its won thread here in MW. Just looking at the first episode, It would seem this series has a different style to it. The sound quality and animation are pretty AWESOME!!! So, who's watched it? I think its only me and wolfx (as MW members), who watched this and talked about it sparingly in another thread. I would really love a comment from Areaseven in this anime. BTW, the raws on this thing are up to episode 9 and i heard the "meido" (who is one of the most anticipated characters of the anime) has appeared. Oh yeah some pics can be found in this blogs: http://anime.miao.us/archives/2006/04/08/694/ http://mangaminxslair.blogspot.com/2006/04...-lagoon-01.html http://www.batrock.net/anime/?p=452 http://www.yayapapayaz.com/handofgory/2006...lack-lagoon-1-2
  9. Next year, Marvel will once again go anime-style. Produced by Toei Animation and Disney Japan, and airing on TV Tokyo, Marvel Disk Wars: The Avengers will have Iron Man and company teaming up with a bunch of Japanese teens to battle Loki. Unlike previous installments, this one will be geared toward kids. Official Site A Very Japanese Avengers
  10. For the first time ever, Mazinger Z will be available uncut in the U.S. Discotek Media and Eastern Star will release the series in Japanese with English subtitles on DVD starting April 29.
  11. (Long time no posts. I am binging on Macross again, and finally got around to watching the whole original series.) So, am watching 7 for the first time in... a long time... and I still hate Chie Kajiura's singing. Except now I know why... at the time she had a weak voice and amateurish singing skills at best, and when compared to Yoshiki Fukuyama's EPIC POWERS OF ROCK (his songs are still good 18 years later... that can be said about very few fictional bands), it seems even worse, especially when she's singing a capella...and even more so when you consider how good Mari Ijima (at least for a 17 year-old 80's Idol) and the Frontier girls were. Speaking of which, I came with striking distance of May'n a few years ago when I snuck backstage at the World Cosplay Summit (long story). YOU MAD? (hehehe)
  12. Yesterday morning at about 4:00 AM, I finished episoded 110 of the Legend of the Galactic Heroes. Wow... It took me about three weeks to finish it all from start to end and it was more than worth it. I have to say, without any hesitation, that this is one of the greatest series of all time. More often than not, I can predict fairly well where a show is going and how it will end, but not with this one. It took so many twists and turns along the way that the only thing I could do was just hang on and see what happens next. Plus, how can I not like a setting where the boarding weapon of choice is the battle axe? Anyway, I highly recommend the show for those who haven't seen it yet (there's a petition to bring it over to the US at: http://www.gineigoods.com/form/ . Also, any thoughts or comments from fellow LotGH fans?
  13. The Big O (THE ビッグオー) Sunrise/WOWOW/Cartoon Network/Bandai Visual, 1999, 2002 Bandai Entertainment, 2001-2002, 2003-2004 Directed by Kazuyoshi Katayama (Those Who Hunt Elves, Argento Soma)Written by Chiaki J. It's Showtime!" Synopsis Paradigm City - a metropolis with a lost past and an uncertain future. Among its citizens is Roger Smith, a negotiator who solves the city's problems not handled by the military police. When problems escalate beyond human control, he calls upon his Megadeus known as Big O. Along with his butler Norman and a mysterious female android named Dorothy, Roger keeps the city safe from crime while trying to solve the mystery of lost memories from 40 years ago. "Big O! And, Action!" Story: B+ Imagine Batman: The Animated Series mixed with Giant Robo, and you have The Big O. It has a mix of film noir and giant robot action, along with a complex storyline. You also have a host of characters that come straight out of Batman. Most obvious are Roger and Norman, your typical rich hero and his butler. Some of the villains like Schwarzwald and Beck act like stand-ins for the Joker or Riddler. Season 1 ended with a cliffhanger, which prompted Cartoon Network to step in to help produce season 2 by popular demand. And like many newer anime titles, The Big O's ending was rather anticlimactic, as it was a variation of the "pushing the reset button" scenario used by Neon Genesis Evangelion. At least this one made more sense. Animation: A So why does this anime look a lot like Batman: TAS? Simple: the same animators worked on it. Slick character and mecha designs by Keiichi Satou (Mazinkaiser) give life to the retro backgrounds. And even though the Megadeuses are big, lumbering machines, the battle scenes score up there with Giant Robo and Kishin Corps. Soundtrack: A+ "Big O! Big O, Big O, Big O!" Toshihiko Sahashi (Full Metal Panic!, Steel Angel Kurumi) supplies one of the most underrated anime soundtracks ever composed. It uses classical and jazz with shades of John Barry (Dr. No and most of the James Bond 007 movies), Jerry Goldsmith (The Twilight Zone, Star Trek) and Danny Elfman (Batman, Darkman). The opening theme by Rui Nagai has Queen's Flash Gordon theme all over it. And it's one of those songs you'll be singing all over. Sub vs. Dub Surprisingly, the English dub blows the Japanese version out of the water with its excellent voice acting and script. Perhaps it's because The Big O looks very un-anime. DVD Extras: B Each disc comes with text interviews with staff members, creditless opening and ending sequences, and production sketches. The Bottom Line Still underrated to this day, The Big O is a must for any anime or sci-fi afficionado. We have come to terms. 14. Hi all, if that has been already merge it with what exists. Last night I went to supper with Mr. Suzuki(Gibhli) as we are of the same faith. People from J.C.Staff, Toms Entertainment, I.G. Production and a guy from Tatsunoko Pro also stepped by. In short it got lively but no shop talk. I know more people in the Anime and kit business.
  15. Sunrise's newest offering into the world of mechs anime will premiere on January 5th. https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=t_Y5PEEmwQw https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=yDoOvGjwedo https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=GuRZ9VF9TLg It seems this show will start off with Sunrise's traditional "average joe is just living life until said life is rudely interrupted by giant robots" schtick. Here's some of the mechs from the show Macross fans should note that Sho Hayami (Max Jenius) and Marina Inoue (M30's Aisha Blanchette) will be in the show. Let's hope this one isn't as bat**** insane as Valvrave.
  16. Dream Hunter Rem - Part 2 - Click Here to watch Welcome! I've not posted for years probably but I started an 80's anime youtube channel few months ago. Now I have some extra special to share with my old friends at Macross World. It only took 9 years for second part of Dream Hunter Rem OVA 1 to be subtitled but I found it's release, changed the subtitles to a more typical VHS look and uploaded it for everyone to see. This unlicensed obscure gem is one of the best old school OVA's of all time and part 1 is also available on the channel. This is was well worth the wait and is much more intense than the first part. You can expect it all from horror, a mystical monk, science fiction with women in frozen chambers and of course heart warming romance. Anime Grade: A+ Don't miss the excitement anymore!
  17. I have been contemplating giving One Piece a viewing. It won't be now, but I expect sometime maybe around end of October or so. Keep in mind I said *contemplating*, because I just don't know if I can swallow those ridiculous, zany and goofy character designs and art style. I attempted to watch this show way back a few years ago on Cartoon Network and was extremely put off by both the character designs and the English dub. However, many people claim the story and plot more than make up for its shortcomings. Is this really true? Basically I'm asking, from a serious skeptic, why should I give One Piece a chance? For reference, I love the DB and DBZ to death.
  18. Anyone remember the spiritual successor to Wings of Honneamise that was shelved? Well, no any longer! http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2013-03-20/gainax-makes-blue-uru-film-with-honneamise-yamaga-sadamoto
  19. I was looking around and spotted some Naruto DVDs from Hong Kong. I know HK dvds are said to have subtitles that are hit and miss(Macross 7) but has anyone watched this set? How are the subs in this set or any other HK set for that matter? Are they good, passable, terrible?
  20. I loved this series when I was a kid. Although it didn't have big guns and missiles and gatlings etc etc, it had a unique charm. I particularly liked the Orchestra like theme music that sometimes plays in the background.
  21. No price announced as of yet, but great news nonetheless! http://augustragone.blogspot.jp/2013/06/science-ninja-team-gatchaman-flies.html
  22. So we finally have a teaser trailer of sorts. http://www.animenews...-promo-streamed Ship designs are nicely detailed, although I still say the head looks like a cross between Tiger & Bunny and Aquarion ...
  23. Because I have seen every entry in the Gundam franchise outside of half of SD Gundam Scramble, SD Gundam Festival, and the compilation movies for Turn A and 00, I figured this was inevitable. Like how Banshee went through ZZ Gundam I will trek through this complete with episode commentary, screen shots, very bad in-jokes, and me grieving over being banned from MAHQ. I don't think I'll ever get over it, but we'll get back to that later, on to the first episode! So anybody else watch this at some point? I know it was once on Toonami.
  24. I do not know if anybody else has been watching, but as of last week there is a new mecha series with character designs by that Hirai guy everyone at /m/ complains about so.... Yeah. Anybody watch it?
  25. We'll be presenting our Macross: Mythology & Physics panel at Tekkoshocon X-2 in Pittsburgh this April. The schedule has not been released but it will likely be on Sunday. We will discuss Macross/Robotech connections to ancient & pop mythology and toss in a healthy dose of physics from quarks to m-theory. We're hoping to welcome a guest appearance from Sheryl & Ranka cosplayers for a live performance, it depends on when we get scheduled. http://www.tekkoshocon.com/
